Have been a long time client with multiple animals even prior to the expansion and addition of multiple new veterinarians. I appreciated their small town feel, however that seemed to dissipate after their expansion and with all their accreditations their fees seemed to increase as well. Avenue Animal Hospital and their staff are absolutely AMAZING. Today my family and I, unfortunately, had to put down our dog Lilly (unexpectedly) as a family of 6, we weren't all together when we heard the news… It was around 1:15 PM when they told us and they had already “closed” 15 minutes prior to that at 1 PM. We wanted everyone in the family to be able to say goodbye and ALL of the staff stayed until around 2:30-3:00 PM until everyone in the family was able to get there and say their goodbye’s. I’ve never reviewed a business online in my life, but because of the unbelievable hospitality, they showed my family during this sad time… I felt compelled to do so (you’ll probably see this same review on every review site that exist because I can’t thank them enough so this is the only way I can) We all want vets that we can trust when it comes to the care of our pets, so if you’re looking for one… I can say with 100% certainty that you’ll be in good hands with Avenue. From the front reception desk girls to the vet techs and the veterniarians, everyone I have had the pleasure of meeting and dealing with for the last 6 years has been wonderful. Avenue Hospital is where we bring our female dachshund for all her health issues and preventative measures.  We came to Avenue about 2 years ago due to their high ratings on both Yelp and other pet reporting services.  This pet hospital has been great!   When the pup has any issues we setup an appointment and have no problem getting in.  Our experience with Avenue has been with basic checkups, emergency visits, and small surgeries (teeth cleaning).  After some home toe clipping issues, we now also get it done at Avenue.  Their practice is clean and the dog does not seem to be harmed by any events.  The workers care about what they do and have pets of their own.  Many times we bring in our dog and some of the workers come out to see her.  We have never had issues and their prices are decent.  They have good prices on heart worm and fleas/ticks medications.  Finally, they have a smart phone app that helps loyal customers save money after so many visits / so much money spent.  Stop on in and try a careful and responsible veterinary group. Dr, Wahl has cared for the many furry companions who have shared my home over the past 20 years.  He has never been anything but kind, gentle, compassionate, and respectful of both me and his patients. His practice is clean and modern and his staff is unfailingly friendly, cheerful, and clearly happy doing what they do,  I have never been kept waiting very long past my appointment time, a courtesy my many personal physicians over the years have not extended me!  I cannot recommend him highly enough. We just moved to Illinois from California. I loved our vet out there. They knew our dog since he was a baby. I looked at a million places and having a bulldog I wanted the best fit. So...with two new, tiny kittens in our family, we decided to scour the internet to find the perfect vet. So far our girls have been here for three appointments: two sets of shots and a sick kitty visit. Everything about this vet's office is seriously top notch. Our first appointment was the day after we adopted the kittens from TLC (see my prior review on them, if you're so inclined :) and they checked out in perfect health. A few days later, one of our kittens started sneezing semi-frequently & the other one was sneezing occasionally. Being new to having kittens so very young (nine weeks) in our care but *not* being new to "Dr. Google", we were a little nervous it could be an upper respiratory infection...which could be potentially dangerous for kittens so young. We were able to get a same day appointment and while it was just a cold, the girls were put on precautionary antibiotics...just in case. The cold cleared up beautifully.  Are there cheaper animal clinics? Sure. Is it worth the cost to come to Animal Avenue? Absolutely! They were upfront about all the fees & treated our kittens so very gently. The vets have given us input and information on everything we could think to ask regarding kitten care. We've been very happy with our choice in veterinary care for our new kitties. If you're looking for excellent care for your furry friend, look no further. (Oh, and they gave the kittens a complimentary claw trim on the first visit. Since we're vehemently opposed to declawing, this was a lovely surprise bonus.) Read Less

Very nice, patient, and friendly staff! My cat, Thomas wasn't feeling too well for a couple of days and I was worried. So I went to the vet kind of stressed because the car ride for Thomas wasn't the greatest. I was able to see the vet, even though I didn't have an appointment. This is absolutely and positively the best veterinarian I have ever gone to in my life he is so nice so thorough and the girls there they make you feel at home very friendly perfect clean the doctor I cannot say enough about him absolutely spectacular I had an emergency with one of my Yorkies one of her anal glands had burst it and when shooting blood all over the place I called my I really cannot say enough good things about this place it was just the minute I walked in from the second I left I was treated kindly with courtesy exceptional caring about my dog and I'm telling you if you're looking for a vet this is the place could not see me and 3 other veterinarians in the area no one would see me but Avenue took me in in a half an hour I was there and my dog was not bleeding anymore he found the problem I was in tears I was so happy it is by far by far the best place ever Read Less

Everyone at Avenue is always courteous, cheerful and knowledgable. They take care of the animals and their people. The hospital is always clean/tidy. We are always seen quickly after arrival. I don't usually leave a review, but Dr. Wahl is one of the nicest most caring vets I have ever seen.  We have been taking our pets to his hospital for the past 17 years and would not even consider going elsewhere.  He really cares about the animals as you can easily tell when he is with them. Never rushes and gives great care, even with some of the more difficult pets, I had one. Everyone who works there is friendly and outgoing, very reasonable and never push any unnecessary services. I've been coming here for a few years. Today's visit was indicative of the quality of care you get here. We were seen on time,  weren't rushed and had a very, very thorough exam (at least 40 minutes) for $51 (no shots or tests, but three concerns were addressed. Dr. Wahl and Colleen-as well as the lady who took my frantic call- are incredibly calm, passionate about their work, and understanding. I had to have my dear sweet kitty Pounce put to sleep and I was so sad. Dr. Wahl wasn't scheduled to see patients but he did the procedure anyway. I drive an hour just to see Dr. Wahl since I have two Greyhounds, and he is known to be a great vet for them.  I work 60 hours a week so sometimes it's a challenge finding the time to travel  since I have 4 pets. But he is worth it. I can't say enough about Colleen, too. She is the kindest Vet Tech I have ever met. It is obvious that Dr. Wahl hires only the best people. I wouldn't go anywhere else! Read Less

This is an excellent practice! I'm so happy for their new facility! My family's kitties all see Dr. Wahl and the care is wonderful. One of my cats has an extra tough congenital condition and also sees a specialist. Dr. Wahl works in conjunction with the specialist to provide the very best care for her. I can't say enough about Avenue Animal Hospital and Dr Wahl. I've been taking my dogs here for over 10 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. As other have said about their experience with greyhounds, they also donate their time to them. I wish Dr Wahl was a people doctor, I would go to him myself! I can call and get in anytime I need to, and their fees are very reasonable. I get my Frontline and heartworm preventative here too, at better prices than Costco! I've had two of my dogs suffer from cancer and when the time came to let them go, I turned to Dr Wahl. He was as kind and compassionate as you could possibly hope for at such a difficult time. This place was fantastic!  My dog has had a recurring problem which causes him to urinate blood.  I had been to a big chain vet place for this problem several times, and was always given amoxicillin for him.  I had spent over $600 on visits and tests including ultrasound and cultures at that place.This place was such a relief.  The staff was friendly, and after a very short wait the vet called us in.  They did a urinalysis with a sample we brought, and an ultrasound to check for stones, he also checked the prostate.  He told us amoxicillin isn't very effective for a bad bladder infection and prescribed us something that concentrates on the bladder.  Since it is a recurring problem he prescribed 3 weeks of it to make sure it will be gone for good.  The vet even answered our stupid questions like if switching foods would help.  He not only told us it wouldn't, but explained HOW he came to that conclusion.  Great, friendly, informative vet!  The cost for the visit, tests, and 3 weeks of pills was about $119!  What a relief!  At the other vet this visit would have been over $200, and they would've just given him more amoxicillin!
