I've searched several years for a good avian vet ! I found her here ! Dr Katrina Johnson is awesome !! The office took my sick African Grey parrot right in as a walk in ! No extra emergency fee ,in fact as a first time visit first exam fee was waved ! Then Dr Johnson took all the time needed to exam ,then explain lab tests and fees. That's not the end of her dedication, she came in on her day off to check on the results and call me with it ! ! Called to get a price on my Great Dane puppy to get his ears cropped, they quoted me four hundred dollars. When I dropped him off I was skeptical about having them crop them it was so convenient only being 15 minutes from my house instead of driving downtown so I took a leap of faith. When I got there the doctor actually had a book of cropped ears and showed me the GD page and I instantly felt better. Hours later they called said I could pick him up they made me pay before seeing him which somehow 400$ turned into 660$. I can understand maybe price going up to four fifty but I look over and see my puppy and I almost died I handed them the money grabbed my dog and walked out. I’m not one for confrontation but they did the worst job on his ears they did not shape them nor take anything off of the bell of his ear he simply sliced his ear in half. I come home to look at the bill and I see all my petty little charges that should’ve been included in the 400$ but no of course not. I’ve heard people take there dog back three times to be put back under for them to cut more off. I will never go there again and I should’ve listened to my gut instinct. The entire staff is fantastic! We had to have our pet euthanized last week. Dr. Nick Velkov was absolutely the best, as was the rest of the staff through our whole ordeal. I have been going to Forest South for 20 years and actually worked there for a few months years back. Now that I know Dr. Coyne is no longer there I am relieved. I loved Dr. Trudeau and Dr. Johnson so much that I kept going back and would request anyone except Dr. Coyne; who in my opinion was clearly lacking any empathy or care about the job he does and what animals mean to the families that care for them. He was cold and lacked any care for what he was doing. So glad to hear he is not there anymore; he should be grateful for the staff he had.... they were what kept this vet great. A few years back a dog of ours was dragging her back legs and after 2 minutes Dr. Coyne suggested putting her to sleep that she was paralyzed and X-rays were pointless, we took her somewhere else and one cortisone shot and she was fine in 30 minutes. I brought my dog in for surgery recently and told them I only had a $500 budget and was quoted $560-$730. When I came to pick her up the bill was $500.30 which was lower than quote. Been taking our cats there for the past 20 years. They have been helpful with our cat's issues all the way through their senior years. They're helped us get them across the rainbow bridge with my 5 precious hearts. I have a new generation of kitties now. And they have given my fur babies the best of care. When I heard the practice was sold I was a little worried about who would take care of my babies. But the great staff is still there and it's business as usual. I have been taking my dog Missy here since her vet closed down. The doctors and staff here are absolutely amazing. Yesterday I had to put my dog to sleep due to congestive heart failure. Melanie (CSR) and Dr. Wild were so compassionate and patient with me. Dr. Wild thoroughly explained everything and let me ask all the questions I needed to. Melanie was ao nice to us that I had to give her a hug on the way out. This hospital has taken great care of my petbaby through sickness and health. They made her transition over to Rainbow Bridge very peaceful. Thank you for everything. I would highly recommend taking your pet babies to this location! Read Less

I have been coming here since 1980 with my family pets. I brought in my Abby on 9-21-16 with Rodent Ulcers. I checked my records and found that in the past, on 8-29-14 & 12-11-15 she received Depo Medrol 20 mg & Convenia, on this occasion she received only Depo Medrol. On 10-10-16 I brought her back and she was then given Convenia. I was told too soon for additional Steroids. A week later there was still no improvement so I commented and submitted a photo on this website because she was loosing weight. Received no response. I was always so confident when Dr. Coyne was practicing here. Not so confident anymore. I ended up using purified silver 10 mg 1/4 tsp and l-lysine 250 mg in wet food two times a day for several weeks, also put 1/2 tsp purified silver in her filtered water and she is back to herself! I will try this therapy next time prior to coming here for assistance.Read Less

This vet just lost a future client over one of their "policies". I have never been to this vet but I was interested in finding my dog a new vet. I came across their company on google and decided to call them and board my dog. They told me I have to give them a deposit to board my dog. I have never heard of such a silly policy in my life. I wouldn't leave my expensive dog at a vet and not come back for her. I was told they started this policy because past customers haven't come back for their dogs. If petsmart which is a household name Dosent require a deposit for boarding why would I give a company I have never heard of a deposit. They just lost out on a great customer. Read Less

*WARNING* Get A Second Opinion!! I took my 4 month old kitten not 6 like they said in because she hurt her back leg. They took X-Rays and gave her a shot for the pain which cost $250. It turned out she broke her leg. They gave me the options to either pay $1000 to amputate the leg or $2000 for surgery. I am a college student working at a pizza place. I don't have $1000 to give to help my baby's leg. So when I decided that the only other option was to put her to sleep because I didn't want her to be in pain for the rest of her life or be dragging a broken leg around. They told me that they would keep her, fix her leg, and put her up for adoption. I thought that would be best because at least she's alive. That evening when I went to work I was talking with some of my co-workers and they told me to get my cat back and a second opinion. So that's exactly what I did. I went to a different vet and they told me that all she needed was a splint for 4 weeks. She's 4 months old and still growing. The bones will heal back on their own! Plus it will only cost approximately $200 for everything! If you love your baby in which I'm sure you do then get a second opinion! They wanted to either take a leg for $1000 or keep my baby and adopted her out for I don't know how much. Read Less

I will never ever go there again... My husband has been taking his dogs there because of Dr. Coyne for over 20 years and we drive over 40 miles 1 way. Heres to show you the appreciation for that... We took 1 of the dogs in 2 weeks ago for a grooming and shots $300 and another dog for shots 3 days later another over $200. Well, the 1st 1 came home coughing which ended up spreading it to not only the other dog.... but 2 other very elderly dogs we've had for 12 and 13 yrs. My husband took the dog back and was charged $127.00 for the KENNEL COUGH medication... That she got there!!! And refuses to give medication for our OLD dogs unless we get them in a car to take them there to be seen... We don't take them there...1 is very fragile german shepherd with hip displacia and the other a heavy Golden Retriever that can barely walk with bad hips and arthritis... REALLY!!!!! Way to take care of a 20 year customer.. Kennel cough can lead to pnuemonia... And the old Golden retriever is down... Ofcourse, we only have enough medication for a 2 week dose since there are 4 dogs to treat with kennel cough and they only gave enough meds for 2 dogs... I am taking this further... contacting my attorney and they better hope my old dogs I have had from 6 weeks old will get over this horrible disease they caught at Forest South Animal HospitalRead Less

for everyone who takes their pets to Forest South animal hospital on western avenue I would strongly suggest you DO NOT go there. most of you may know I had to put down my dog on Friday due to lung cancer we had a choice to get his ashes back or a paw print or both. they originally told us it would be 155$ to get his ashes back then when we go to pay they bumped it up to over 300$.... so we decided to do the paw print instead cause that was just bogus... mom went up there yesterday to get it and they have no idea where it's at and have no clue if it's broken or not... All I wanted was one piece left of my dog for the family and they ruined that. they don't give one single shit about you or your animal (please excuse my French). please don't take them there. it's a horrible place.
