Dr. Nichols and his staff are without a doubt the most Professional Animal Veterinary Clinic I have ever encountered. Their compassion, knowledge, etiquette and empathy toward Animals and pet owners is phenomenal. I've seen nine other Vets from December 2016 to February 2017 before finding Washington Veterinary Medical Clinic & Dr. Nichols. My cat was diagnosed with ideopathic Chylothorax in December, 2016 by E.R. Vet DVM Metzler who had to perform a chest tap to drain fluid out of my cats chest. Since he was an ER vet and costs are much higher going to the E.R., I searched for a regular Vet which led me to the second Vet, DVM Vatti. She prescribed Prednisone and ran some tests but was not able to do a chest taps and she referred me to the University of Illinois Veterinarian teaching hospital. About 90 miles total one way from where I live. So the third Vet I seen at the U of l, was DVM Bowman, who performed a chest tap to drain fluid from my cats chest, ran tests, and suggested Rutin therapy and using medical management along with a new diet but said to cut the Prednisone and if that didn't seem to get things under control to opt for thoracic duct ligation surgery. So after cutting Prednisone, after it had been making a difference, I noticed visits were becoming more frequent to the U of I. So eventually I visited the U of I where the fourth to eighth Vet I seen did chest tap procedures to drain chyle from my cats chest, but they never suggested any other treatment alternatives until the nineth vet at the U of I, who insisted doing thoracic duct ligation and paracardomectomy surgeries because medical management would not work. I was not comfortable with this option after everything I read with the risks and opted to continue medical management. I put my cat back on Prednisone and now through Diet with the right food, Prednisone and Rutin combined, it has paid off! It's been 42 days since she was last tapped since posting this. February 6th was the last tapped done at the U of I and I really believed I would have to be going back soon, so I began looking for a vet online that was close to me just in case Pepper should wind up needing to be tapped again and this is how I found Washington Veterinary Medical Clinic. I took pepper in to be seen by Dr. Nichols on February 15th I believe. As soon as I walked in I immediately felt I was at the right place. The office was so clean. It was so quiet. I later learned they try to schedule appointments where it is one animal at a time to reduce stress as much as possible on the animal. So I filled out the information form and then was taken back into the exam room with my cat in her oversized pet porter. The vet tech explained she was spraying just a small amount of cat pharamone around to help relax my cat Pepper, after waiting just a min we opened the door of her porter and she just came out looking so at ease. It was a far cry from the way she acted at the U of I when she would try to hide under her bed!. Here at Dr. Nichols you could just see she was so comfortable. Dr. Nichols came in and introduced himself and my cat Pepper began going up to rub against him and the vet tech. They placed her on the exam table and we're very gentle with getting her temp, checking her breathing and I asked Dr. Nichols if we could do something to see if the fluid in her chest was needing to be drained. He recommended an X-ray. We did an X-ray and it showed that she still had use of 50+ % of her breathing capacity. Dr. Nichols said he recommends not tapping just yet but wait to see if things are getting better with medical management I had been doing. He explained it would be better because she was not in distress and there is a chance the chyle could subside but we don't want to risk causing infection since anytime a needle is put in the body could cause a chance for infection. So we agreed to check in a week with another X-ray. The next week her chyle had gone down more! The next week it was down just a tad more. This clinic has been so great and I finally feel that I have found the perfect Vet Read Less
