I can't say enough how pleased I am with Dr. V.Shapiro. When it comes to your pet being in trouble - you just panic! To have a veterinarian who you trust and rely on is extremely important! Over time He had been treating my cat and two dogs. Today I made a call after hours... my dog had the bites wounds. After talking to him  on provided for the emergency number, This Doctor made a special trip back to his clinic,  just to make sure  that my dog was ok. I am amazed how caring and come he had been - it made me right away less worried. My elderly cat started peeing blood so we took her here. Dr. Shapiro and Natalia are really good, caring people. The costs are very reasonable and I felt that they were very practical with their advice for my kitty and did not order any excessive tests or recommend expensive procedures that ultimately would not have helped her. Unfortunately, unlike another reviewer, they were not able to save her from her advanced kidney disease. I do, however, appreciate how well they cared for her in her last few days. When my other cat started throwing up blood, I took her here as well, and she is doing much better. Additionally, I feel that they are very available. They answer the phone reliably, and are often able to make appointments the day of, which I very much appreciated as my kitty's health debilitated quickly and without much warning. Read Less

We have this amazing cat, that suddenly started pulling his hair out from both sides of his back. I consulted with a veterinarian whom consulted with a few other veterinarians from another animal hospital, not one of them had any type of a decent diagnosis. Then a miracle happened, my friend gave me the phone number of this magical diagnostician Dr. Shapiro, our problem was solved immediately. Dr Shapiro is a phenomenal vet. He has been looking after my dogs, who are now 11 and 13 years old, for years. The office is always clean, the staff is amazingly courteous and go out of their way to ensure all my dogs' needs are met. When one of my dogs became very ill, Dr Shapiro went above and beyond with his knowledge and expertise to save his life. His attention to detail was impeccable and he personally called, after business hours and on weekends, to ensure my fury friend was getting better. I would never go to another vet. Been taking my pets to Shapiro since 2000 or so.. 16 years?  2 GSD's and 1 cat.Not once had a negative experience.  Everytime there was a concern with the health of one of my pets, the doc was spot on, right away, about the underlying issue.  Never in a panic mode, always calm and collected.  During emergencies in off hours, my calls were returned very quicklyPrices are very reasonable and atmosphere is "good".  Yes, once in a while you have to hold your pet while the doc administers a shot, if doc's assistant isn't there.  But who better to hold your pet than you?Try for comparison to go to one of the bigger pet clinics.. If i could give this clinic a rating of negative negative & negative stars I would. Dr Shapiro is an awful human being. He does not care about being a vet and only cares about making money. I brought my dog here when he was sick and Dr Shaprio basically told me my dog is going to die..um excuse me? He said yeah..he'll probably die..those were his exact words. Obviously I broke down and he said he needed to keep him for the night because he was loosing blood. My dog at the time was a healthy 5 year old and had no problems whatsoever. He kept him overnight and when I went to go get him in the morning he was groggy and looked like noone had even taken him out to the bathroom. Thank god he ended up being total fine and just needed some antibiotics but what I want to know is what kind of doctor tells you oh..by the way..your dog will probably die! The only reason I brought my dog here was because my parents brought their cat their for years and I don't know why they said he wasn't that good but I think they were just used to him. I've never seen anyone at the clinic and there's no nurse just Dr. Shaprio. I've never met a vet that doesn't like animals and he is one of them. He doesn't even pet the dogs and cats or give them any attention like most vets do. He is an evil person and an awful vet..stay away!!! Read Less

I am surprised people keep taking their pets here. Why? I guess it's because the prices are reasonable compared to large/full service animal hospitals, but it's not worth compromising your pets health over. I brought in my cat for a simple yearly check-up and vaccinations. He doesn't handle going to vet well, and he has to be sedated. When I brought him in, there were no assistants around. I was expected to "assist", even though I explained my fear of needles (not to mention my lack of qualifications). The "sedative" given to my cat caused a sort of paralysis; he fell to the floor (luckily was not injured from the fall of the examination table); he was then partially paralyzed for nearly two days. He was clearly in pain, and could barely move. Whatever was given to my cat was clearly not an appropriate "sedative". The next year, I took him to the Wheeling Animal Hospital. The cat still had to be sedated during the exam, but he was awake within minutes and back to his old self with no negative side effects. Do not bring your pet here. There are much better animal hospitals in the area. Read Less
