How could this veterinary improve?
Well first and foremost they could examine the animals thoroughly and do their job. My husband and I brought our 7 year old pitbull in last Thursday at 2PM because he was bloated and couldn't defecate, but seemed okay otherwise. Dr.Grimm saw my pitbull, we explained he wasn't defecating and just lying around which is odd for him. He listened to his stomach with a stethoscope, complaining that his chest was too large. He then anally examined him and said that it had seemed abnormal. He said that, since I explained to him my dog is normally gassy, as in burps and flatulence all the time. since I've had him, that that wasn't normal. He told me that that isn't normal and to change his dog food. He gave us a antibiotic script for metronidazole and give it to him every 12 hrs. We asked if it was okay to feed him since he was so bloated and he said as long as we changed his food that that should be fine. So we went home and fed our dog and went to work. We checked on him in the middle of the day and tried to let him outside. He wasn't interested in going outside and just laid there. He hasn't defecated since Wednesday late at night, we were worried. After work he still had no interest in going outside or at this point even get up. His stomach had bloated even further, he looked like he was pregnant. I attempted one last time to get him to go outside, and this time he urinated on the porch which is very unlikely of him, and lied down on the porch and refused to get up. My husband carried him inside where I looked at his gums and his gums were paper white. It was after 10Pm and we knew something was wrong, so we rushed him to the 24 Hr emergency vet in Fort Wayne where in 15 mins we were faced with the hardest decision of my life. The veterinarians did an ultrasound immeditatly and said that there was a giant mass that had burst and was bleeding from the inside out and that is what was making his belly enlarge. Our choices were to do a surgery where it might extend his life for 1-6 months at the most with chemotherapy and he would be in pain. We had to euthanize my dog that night after being under the impression he only had gas because my dog wasn't properly examined at the Swiss City Vet. Then my husband calls the office a few days later and begins to explain to the receptionist that they had misdiagnosed our dog and that he was dead. She went and got Dr. Grimm on the phone and my husband spoke to him and said to him he misdiagnosed our dog and we would like our $40 back because he died, not like the money means anything but its the least you could do. Now, my husband and I are very hurt so the words were as polite as they could be considering the situation. Dr. Grimm said to my husband that if he cursed one more time he was going to hang up and that they gave him a proper examine and weren't going to give the money back.
I feel as if we were judged purely because of the way my husband and I look and the fact that my pitbull was so large that he was either nervous or afraid of him, and my dog was never and has never been human aggressive. Its like they thought we were too poor to give the dog a proper examine or he feared my dog. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone who actually loves their pet because they said it was gas and it instead was a fatal cancerous tumor and in less than 8 hrs our dog was dead because someone didn't want to do their job the right way that day.
Now the cancer was inevitable but if he would have diagnosed him properly we wound't have fed him and my dog wouldn't have been as miserable as was for his last few hours on earth and we could have gave him the best afternoon ever and euthanized later that day, but instead my dog got to suffer for the last few hours of his life. Thanks to Dr. Grimm.
At the very least they could give us our money back for the medicine my dog didn't even take because hes dead, which the money is DEFINITELY not the point, but we were also dismissed when we told them that they misdiagnosed my dog.
So I would hope you decide to take your pet to a different vet because GAS does NOT equal FATAL CANCER.
Do your job, if you were fearful of my dog, you should have let someone else examine him.
Heartless, mediocre, judgmental and didn't listen to a word we had to say. And the least they could do is give us our money back but really I feel like they should pay my vet bill where I had to kill my dog because this man didn't want to do his job that day.
The clinic didn't seem at all sympathetic or sorry or could even understand why we could possibly use a few curse words to express our lack of service we received from this clinic. So much so that the $40 for the medicine and "examine" will not be refunded.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM, OR DON'T LOOK DIFFERENT AND HAVE TATTOOS AND PIERCINGS OR COLORED HAIR OR OWN A LARGE PITBULL.
We will never forgive these people for this, for dismissing us Read Less
