My dog was neutered at Dr. Carter’s and sent home without a cone at the direction of Dr. Carter and his team. I was told that because my dog showed no interest with his incision site coming out of the operation, he wouldn’t need a cone. Now even being a first time dog owner, I was skeptical of this information, so I asked the team for a back up cone just in case he found interest in it. And sure enough, when he was in his crate bored, he licked the glue off of his incision site. I immediately threw on his cone - but it was too late. As time progressed that day, it was clear that his site was re-opened, and seeping puss excreted because of infection. The site was full of blood (hematoma), swollen, and raw also as a result of the infection. I immediately sent the team an email as they were closed that day. Because my dog was in severe pain, wouldn’t eat, drink, use the bathroom, and couldn’t really even move - I rushed him to MedVet. They had to operate on/sedate him (the second time in three days poor guy) again and re-seal the open wound. It cost me an additional amount of $1,200.00 at MedVet. Dr. Carter and his team have yet to respond to my email, show any remorse or sympathy, no apologies, no care at all for my dog. Dr. Carter has yet to call me about any of this. I am appalled by the unprofessionalism of this business. By not providing a cone, this traumatic event for us conspired - And then after having full knowledge of the situation and report from MedVet - to turn a blind eye??? How cruel. Shame on the team and everyone that works there. Shame. I hope you keep this in the back of your mind for a long time and feel the pain and disrespect we have felt as dog owners. Read Less

Dr. Carter, Dr. Clayton, and the staff at this small Carmel veterinary office are fantastic. I have been going here for years and am very happy with the way they treat my dog and me. Dr. Clayton is phenomenal at explaining things clearly and making nervous pets feel comfortable. Dr. Carter is simply brilliant. Five stars aren't enough. I can't even begin to describe how wonderful Dr. Clayton and the staff are at Carter Vet. I came to them to get a second opinion after my previous vet failed to mention a decent size lump on my dog at her regular checkup a couple weeks prior. Turned out my 7 year old dog had cancer, and a difficult one at that. Throughout the entire process from diagnosis to surgery to post-op care, they showed more compassion, caring and knowledge than I've ever experienced with a vet - and I've been to many over the years. Dr. Clayton and this team truly go above and beyond; you are not just a dollar sign walking through the door. Read Less

The essential VET if you care and love your pet. My 85-year-old mother had to have teeth removed from her Italian Greyhound. Most of the bleeding stopped, but one tooth continued to bleed. Dr. Carter ran tests and all kinds of screening panels. He even called a VET INTERNIST to go over everything. As it turns out, the infection in the one tooth was much deeper than anyone could have anticipated. He gave him antibiotics, re-packed the tooth in question, and kept him overnight. HE went above and beyond anything you would expect a medical professional to do. The next morning he spoke with my mom 3 times and with me once to assure us that everything was fixed and MarcoPolo (her dog) was eating and could go home. The entire staff, from the folks who answer the phones on up to Dr. Carter himself have always been concerned, knowledgeable and courteous. His practice, on a scale of 1-10, is an 11. Thank you for caring so much. Without her dog, my elderly mother would likely go into a decline in her own health. Read Less
