It's been a couple of months since since we lost our sweet Izzy, a yellow lab/greyhound/shepherd mix, which makes it easier to finally post a review. Although the final outcome was sad, I can't express what a comfort that Izzy spent her final days with the amazing staff at VAC Companion Animal Medical Center. After working with our regular vet for a week or so, changing foods and medicines every couple of days, and not feeling that their level of urgency was as high as ours, we got online and looked for other options. We came across VCACAMC and because they were staffed by doctors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we decided to give them a try. I don't have anything bad to say about the vet that we used for the almost 3 years since we moved to the Carmel/Westfield area, but I will say that we wished we had found VCACAMC a long time ago. VCACAMC is heads above any vet we have ever used in our 35+ years of having pets. The level of care and love that Izzy received from Dr. Morrison, Dr. Smith and Dr. Sage and all technicians, aides and receptionists was way beyond any service we had ever received, ever. These people are amazing. If we ever decide to get another pet, we won't go anywhere else. Read Less

This compassionate team has saved both my dogs this year. I have two huskies. One got bloat and the other ate 60 tablets of melatonin filled with xylitol. I showed up frantic and with dogs that would have died if not for their quick and attentive care. They not only are excellent vets, but some of the kindest people I have met. They constantly keep you updated, are patient when you call probably a bit too often because your baby might not make it and are comforting as you consider your life without your little one in it. I brought our sick beagle puppy, Kylo, into VCA Companion Medical Center on Rangeline Road in Carmel last night (April 4th, 2018). I did it because we had been taking our eleven year old chocolate lab, *Jedi, there since birth. It was after hours so it was an Emergency Visit. I spent over $300.00 for the visit, $100.00 of which I paid for the Parvovirus Test. It came back positive. A death sentence for a 3.5lb puppy. None of the other puppies in the litter are sick, but Kylo (shown in the photo) was very ill. Pooping bloody mucous, vomiting, with a 102° fever. Unbelievably, no one called from VCA the next morning to see if he was okay? No one called until well into the afternoon to see if our puppy had survived the night? Unexceptable to me. My wife called (keep in mind we have been going here for 11 years with Jedi) and the girl behind the desk did not know about Kylo, asked if we spelt our name with a "PH" or a "V" and did not seem to know about anything that was going on inside the building. The last straw: I asked Dr. Johnson about his stool being grey instead of bloody and she, quite shortly, responded 'she didn't know what different stool colors meant'. You decide. Our eleven year old chocolate lab has been going here since birth, but no one ever gushed over him like the "cute dogs" which was fine as Jedi doesn't need to be "liked" just taken care of medically. And? Kylo is alive, wagging his tail & playing with Jedi. EDIT: Your apology is hollow after mistreating us. Read Less

The staff at VCA is extremely caring and kind. Dr. Morrison is wonderful and very knowledgable. We have trusted her with the care of all of our dogs. She truly has your pet's best interest at heart and takes care of the owner's needs as well. In the past 9 weeks we have had to say goodbye to two of our dogs. Everyone at VCA helped make this transition as bearable as possible. As a matter of fact they went above and beyond to help us. We always feed our dogs a yummy snack when we say goodbye. We were so distraught with one of our dogs we forgot the snack. The tech graciously hunted down a piece of apple pie for him. This made us and our beagle extremely happy. I have never been "talked into" doing more tests than necessary and I appreciate this immensely. Doctor Morrison knows that our biggest concern is the quality of our dog's lives. She helps us provide the best care possible to our furry family members. I have recommended VCA and Dr. Morrison to several of my friends and they all love the care she provides. I can't imagine entrusting the health care of my pet to anyone else. Read Less

I too would give a zero if I could. After six years of wonderful service and care for my six animals at Companion Animal Hospital (now VCA) I just experienced an unbelievable experience. My vet called and dropped a bomb accusing me of verbally abusing and cursing the staff and losing my temper. This NEVER happened. She acknowledged that she had never witnessed this and I even asked if there was another client by the same name. She never asked me if anything was wrong but proceeded to tell me when I come in again "not to be so hard on the staff." I was stunned and had no idea what she was talking about. First of all I don't use foul language EVER! I had no idea anyone was unhappy about anything and have never left feeling upset. I would have immediately talked to the medical director if I thought anything was wrong. I too have noticed a big changed since VCA has acquired the hospital. The best vet ever left the practice shortly after. Can't but help but wonder why! I contacted VCA headquarters as well as sent them a detailed letter. I have not heard back from either the hospital or VCA. Something seems terribly wrong! Looking for a new vet! Read Less

I wish giving zero stars was possible. My dog has been going to this office for about a year now. She has epilepsy. The last time I went to refill her medicine they told me that she had to have a series of blood tests to receive any more medication, to test her levels and reactions to the medicine, which I understood and agreed to. I was told that this would cost around $150. Being a single mother, I have to budget these extra expenses out very carefully so when I took her back to receive the blood tests I had planned on around that amount. They had my dog back there for about two minutes then brought her back up and rung me out now telling me that i owed around $300. I was extremely frustrated because I was lied to about pricing and ripped off but I had my one year old with me and I was trying to control my dog at the same time so I bit the bullet and paid what they were now telling me was the price. After I paid they now informed me that in order to get any more medicine AGAIN I had to come back and meet with the doctor in about three weeks, another $100 out of my pocket. Now I am angry because it is an unnecessary appointment just to be able to get her more medicine that she needs to survive when she just had blood tests and her levels were completely normal. Again, I am a single mom and I cannot afford to be ripped off from these people refusing to give my dog her medicine if I don't give them even more money for something completely unnecessary. Basically this establishment completely rips you off and has no care in the world about doing it. Do not go here unless you want to pay so much more than you would somewhere else, and the service is terrible so it's definitely not worth it. Read Less

Under Dr Buzetti, Companion was a paragon of excellence in every way, hence receiving 5 stars in past reviews. Under VCA, as it now sadly is, it is a greedy, uncaring, unprofessional, profit before pets and people, cog in the dangerous vet swallowing conglomerate that is VCA. I could go on with recent horror stories, from many different people but suffice to say, go to your local vet who still puts you and your pet first, before VCA swallows them up or squeezes them out too. It's just symbolic of all that is wrong with healthcare today. Dr's are pressurized and hounded by administration to turn a profit and not permitted to do their job ie care for your pet to the best of their ability. How sad to see such a wonderful resource for pet owners be destroyed by human greed, selfishness, lack of integrity and irresponsiblity. Read Less

This Animal Hospital, staff, and vets are truly one of the best. In the past I have been very lucky when it comes to finding great vets, and this facility takes it up a notch. My terrier/bichon mix became very ill and I had to rush him to an emergency clinic at 3 A.M. I was fortunate in locating this facility and my pup ended up having to spend 4 days in the "doggy" hospital recovering. He pulled through thanks to the expert medical staff at Companion, and their kindness could not have been more appreciated. My pup requires you to "earn" his love, and despite the circumstances, he actually was giving kisses to the vet and staff before we left. This is a dog who trembles immediately upon entering any vet! My lab mix is a rescue, and is also terrified of the vet. Yet each time I take her in to Companion, I am even more blown away about their ability to provide a calm and cheery visit for my dogs. Even after relocating to downtown, I still take my dogs to companion animal hospital. I could not recommend them enough!Read Less

In an emergency situation where my husband and I found out little guy puking everywhere we called in a panic and went right to Companion Animal Center. The staff greeted us at the doors to unlock them since it was in the middle of the night. Immediately saw our 10 week old puppy and took the best care of him (and us)! Dr wood was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and overall amazing in the time of need. Would highly recommend! Read Less

VCA was an awesome place to take My baby Murphy when he went into heart failure. Staff and Drs are very caring and spent a lot of time trying to get him into A heart specialist hospital. Although it was very pricey and we were there for 30 min and the bill was 500$, they took very good care of him! Read Less

Vet was very rude and and so was the staff. Did not examine my dog in the room and I heard my dog crying very loud when they took him in the back.

Our 6 week old kitten was very sick from a botched spay and the Companion Animal Medical Center was quick to fix her belly and keep us posted in the process. She's now a healthy and happy 1-year old cat who may not have been with us, if we had been without their expertise. We continue to board Hermione with them and use them for any other issues knowing our sweet girl is in good hands! Read Less

Absolutely amazing staff. Its hard to feel good about having to let go of a companion of 15 yrs but to be joined in the tears I shed by both the Doctor and Nurse in that hour really meant everything.
