Ark Of The Dunes Animal Hospital

Chesterton, Indiana
General Info
Located in the heart of the local pet community, Ark Of The Dunes Animal Hospital is renowned for its compassionate and holistic approach to animal wellness. Ark of the Dunes Animal Hospital in Chesterton perceives every pet visit as a sophisticated interaction between several spatial systems. Positioning encompasses the angling and orienting around care, which is greatly important in Indiana. Respectfully, only approach pets if explicitly invited to do so. Staff members perform soft curvilinear motions, slightly swaying their bodies sideways and placing their body diagonally. This reduces the startle reflex and builds orientation trust. Caregivers sit at 90 degrees so that animals can easily triangulate the comforting element and the medical presence. Before tools surface, the blink rates combine with arcs and paw balance shifts into elaborate patterns. Ark of the Dunes Animal Hospital offers advanced services such as imaging, early disease detection, chronic disease management, cardiac assessment, gastrointestinal function support and age-specific health maintenance. The setup of services is based on access tolerance principles. Some animals may allow you to touch them at their sides before permitting any approach from the front. Putting instruments on the floor before use enhances other’s response. Discharge routines use re-orientation techniques to perform such tasks as walking the pet while in a calm zigzag pattern, approaching the bandaged limb from different angles at home, and positioning bedding away from corners. These techniques aim to decrease the loss of spatial safety and independence, thus lowering the chances of flight behaviors. Ark of the Dunes Animal Hospital subtly links its services to the geometric patterns and quiet pauses known by animals from Chesterton and all Indiana neighborhoods. The practice offers a variety of services such as Grooming, Surgery, Parasite Prevention, Radiology (X-rays), Orthopedic Surgery, etc. The services aim to assist pets throughout every phase of life, from regular wellness checkups to more intricate medical necessities. Pet owners value the team’s expertise and compassionate communication, as well as the clinic’s ability to explain medical decisions clearly and supportively. (from senior pet care to emergencies) and continue doing so for the remainder of the pet’s life because a solid foundation has been established. It also plays a key role in educating pet owners and empowering them to adopt lifelong preventative health measures. Additionally, the clinic’s community engagement is a stepping stone towards responsible pet ownership awareness. Both the new and returning clients acknowledge the hospitality of the personnel due to their endorsements of such services, which constantly align with current trends in veterinary practice.

They had advertised hours until 8:00 Wednesdays. Our cat had a urinary blockage and we called and left a message at 6:30 and no one answered or returned our call. At 7:00 we drove and arrived at 7:15. There were two vehicles out front and the front door was open. The lobby lights were off and nobody was up front. I kept shouting "Hello" and walked to a back room. Two nice young ladies came out and after I told them we needed assistance said there wasn't a doctor available. This was close to 7:30. Please don't advertise hours if you have no intent on being staffed. We had to drive to the emergency vet in Michigan City. Read Less

They may have great animal care but we were not able to find out.  I adopted a dog from a rescue shelter last Thursday and then made the earliest available appointment for the following Tuesday at 9:30 AM.  I took a half day off work because I work near Chicago.  We showed up and were told that they called (checked my phone and they did - but it was only 45 minutes earlier) to cancel because the vet had a sick child and was not in.  There were about a dozen employee vehicles parked and no patients.  You can't tell me that there is no one esle who could see the dog?  In any event, they made no effort to then accomodate my work schedule - they had no openings the following Saturday - and so I just decided we had better find another vet.  If that is acceptable - to cancel an appointment 45 minutes before hand with no back up plan at the practice, - I don't want it to happen to me again. Word of caution...this is NOT an animal hospital! Out of town visiting family and my dog had an injured paw that needed attention. I explained the situation. Was told their Dr's (notice the plural) were on lunch. I said I could wait. Then was told, "we only have one on duty today". My response was, "so you can't get me in at all today?" And her response was, "no, sorry". I asked if she could recommend or knew of another place. Her response was "no". What? Really? A quick google search and there were numerous area vets. While polite and empathetic, I would trade both those qualities for intelligence and direction. If there is going to be the word "hospital" in the title, I would assume they would be just that. If you're looking for immediate care, this is NOT the place to take your beloved pet. Found a place 15 minutes away and got my dog the care he needed. Read Less

They were able to get my cat in quickly when I called on a Saturday morning. I had just brought him home from our original vet on Friday after a neuter and declaw done on Monday. Our original vet had given me the run around about bringing my baby home until I put my foot down and said enough is enough. Once I got him home, I quickly realized why they wanted to keep him longer. They had messed up on the right paw. It looked terrible. And he wasn't sent with any antibiotics or pain meds. Ark of the Dunes was able to get him in an hour after I called, fixed his paw right up and sent us home with the meds he needed. We will definitely be using them from now on! Read Less

I have a 12 year old Golden Retriever that got very sick two separate times. Of course both times it occurred on a Saturday evening when Ark of the Dunes is closed. At one emergency vet they wanted to put him down saying he had some diesese. Took him to the Ark the next day and over 1,000 spent at the emergency vet, he had an inter ear infection. Next time at another emergency vet we went to wanted to put him down because they said he had cancer spending 900.00 that time. Again the next day took him to the Ark and he had pneumonia. If it was not for Dr. Julie and Dr. Mallorie we would not have our beloved dog. Lorie and staff could not of been more compassionate and helpful. I owe both the vets so much, for being great vets and loving your pet as much as there own as well as the staff. Thank You all so much, there are no words to thank you enough.

Please if you can take your pets to The Ark Of The Dunes. Dawn DeesRead Less

I boarded my cats there for a little over two weeks, during my transition to the area. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful, as they contacted my vet from where I moved from and made sure that all their shots were up-to-date. If any were needed, they were taken care of while they were there. They were also very accommodating anytime I wanted to visit my cats during my transition. I highly recommend this place to anybody who's looking to board their cats for a few days or more. Read Less

Dr Malorie & staff asked questions as well as listened to questions I had. They didn't rush through the wellness exam and she gave good advice for my dog's health future.
