When my lab was hit by a car, my vet casted his leg and then sent me here so he could be monitored overnight due to some bruising on his chest. Even though my vet contacted them several hours before we arrived, they still were not prepared to receive him when we arrived. They made him lay on a cold tile floor for almost 2 hours. We had to take our own coats off to cover him up, because the dog was shaking quite a bit (and they didn't seem to care about that at all). During that time, they only casually listened to his chest! When 2 staff members finally took him back on a stretcher, they brought him back five minutes later, forcing him to walk on a leash even though he could hardly stand up. I did not feel comfortable at all leaving him with them. I read about compassion in some of the reviews, but we did not receive any noticeable demonstration of that.
We brought sufficient pain medication from his veterinarian, and instead of asking, proceeded to give him something entirely different. When we viewed the invoice later, we noticed they had charged us AGAIN for the very pain medications we had brought and left with them!!!
We insisted they call and ask before they did anything extra with him and they assured us they would. They did get my permission before removing his cast because of major swelling in his leg (no wonder it swelled so terribly, how much they made him walk around on it); however, When I had to pay the invoice, there was a long list of unnecessary things that they did without my consent and they charged me for all of them, most of it was what our previous vet had already done and said the dog would not need, and that we would be saving quite a bit by having gone to our regular vet first. Remember, our main vet whom we trusted sent the dog here ONLY for breathing monitoring just to be safe. We almost took him home, instead we shelled out another 700 plus dollars.
My dog was supposed to remain for 24 hours, but when we came to pick him up at the end of that time they said they had just cut him from his medications and would not send him home for 4 more hours and gladly charged us for the additional time. A lot of inconvenience and wasted time. They should have had to start paying us at that point,
We also saw another man who had been waiting 30 minutes with his dog who was cut to the bone and bleeding every where. I thought they specialized in emergencies.
I do have to say that a couple of the ladies at the front desk tried to be a helpful and considerate. They can't do anything about how the boss runs the business.
I hope this review helps someone. Come here only if you have a life or death emergency and the pocketbook to be well overcharged. They can say all they want about emergency service needing to cost more, but they never behaved as if we were experiencing an emergency at all. That same day, 2 other friends , unbeknownst to us at the time, had taken their pets who were having emergency situations similar to our own into their family vets (in Auburn & in Grabill) - know what they walked out paying to their vets? $30!!!!!!!!! for better service than we received.
