My dog was hit by a car and I could not get any veterinarians in our area to see her. I am grateful to have found this hospital. The staff is so nice and seems to care about animals. BUT...The bill was at least $600.00 more than I was quoted ($600.00 more than the HIGH-end quote I was given.) I did not appreciate that. Also, the person who spoke with us about what treatment would be done (not sure of her title) was not compassionate at all -- didn't even pretend to be. Other than that, if your pet needs help they can get it here, just know it's going to REALLY cost you. Read Less

Long holiday weekend, and we needed one of our dogs seen by a vet, and our regular vet was closed of course. This emergency clinic was closest one to us here in MI. We were promptly taken in when we arrived. The entire staff from reception to technicians to the veterinarian on duty, all very friendly, caring and courteous. Its hard when you have to see a vet you don't know, in an urgent situation.. but this clinic put our minds at ease, did what was necessary without doing unnecessary tests. I definitely will use them again in any emergency, and will be recommending my friends and family do too!! Read Less

A day later found out her pet was not put out of suffering but was now going to require a 6000 dollar plus operation. Thank heavens for NIVES. We found out our sweet boy Brewster had cancer on Wednesday and knew we had to let him go. We just wanted one last evening with him so we took him home with the intention of taking him back on Thursday to put him to sleep. We had a nice evening and pampered him and loved him as much as we could. But during the night he became restless and began struggling a bit. So we wrapped him up and drove the short distance to NIVES where they were expecting us. T...hey put us in the little private room and took Boo and put an IV in his leg then they gave us all the time we needed and when we were ready we held him in our arms and he slipped peacefully away. Even then they did not rush us. They did his foot prints and saved some of his fur and were so very kind and respectful of our feelings. We could not have asked for a more poignant and sweet goodbye. I recently had my pet here. This will be the second time she was here. 6 years ago was first. Let me start by addressing the 1-2 star ratings. Seems to be from the cost more than anything. They do care about your animal, they don't make you wait hours if it's a serious situation. Yes, they are expensive. This is an emergency hospital. Key word EMERGENCY. If it's a life threatening situation, this is where to go. Especially if after hours. First time my cat came here was 2:00 am on Thanksgiving. Not many options. If not life threatening, take to a regular veterinary. This is a hospital. There are some veterinary clinics that can do most critical care too. Just find one that can keep animals overnight. Some don't. Overall, I am very happy with my service here on multiple occasions over the last 7 years. One of my other cats came here when he lost his eye. Sure I wish it was less costly. This is the only 24-7 pet hospital around here. My animals will never be euthanized due to costs. I've brought my pets here on 6 occasions and am very satisfied. Read Less

We have taken several of our pets to this place over the past several years. At one point we spent $6,000 on a pet that ended up passing away. I guess my biggest problem is the charges in the fees. I remember at one time it was only $85 to have the dr. Look at the pet and now it's $145! Everyone is out there everybody take care of their pets but how in God's name can places like this justify their prices when it comes to seeking help with a pet. The prices are outrageous but they get away with it because they know people are willing in have to take care of their pets. It makes me sick how a company like this can make a huge profit off of a lower class family. We just took a cat here several days ago because he had a seizure and his teeth went through his tongue. The doctors sedated him to be able to get the time off of the tooth. But I was in tears because all I heard was my baby boy screeching. We were told he would heal and he was given pain meds and antibiotics. We asked about the hole in his tongue and we were assured it would not be a problem. Then tell me why today Sunday the 8th of January did we have to hold him down with all of our strength to get his tongue off of his tooth again? I just don't understand how places like this take advantage of people like us and do not have a guilty conscience over it. It cost us $360 for the vet to do this. If only we could have got him into the regular vet that he usually sees I know it would have been less than $100. Pathetic but the same time it's reassuring Nolan there is a vet ER place near us for pet emergenciesRead Less

We had a really horrible experience with this place. We took our dog there after hours after he had broken his leg from a car accident. They refused to treat his leg so we could take him home, loaded him up on drugs where he was shaking and then refused to allow us to take our dog home and forced my husband into agreeing to put the dog to sleep even though he was visibly functional and attentive aside from his broken leg. They then charged us close to $300 before they would allow us to leave with our dead dog after not doing anything to help him aside from killing him. It was the worst, most unethical thing I had ever experienced in my life. It was complete medical negligence. Do not take your animal there! If it is dying, just let it die naturally, if it is injured any other way, just have another vet treat it somehow. This is not an option that will be helpful in any way.Read Less

It started out well. They took us straight in. First they explained that it would cost $149.00 to have the doctor examine him and if they did anything else it would be more. The assistant came and looked at our dog, took some ear samples and said the doctor would be in in a few minutes . The doctor comes and tells us she will need to take our dog in the back to examine him. What? Why? We ask. She says so he can be muzzled and she would have help to hold him. What? We can help you hold him, if it is needed. Everywhere else we have taken him, they had looked at him in front of us. We are thinking if these people are that afraid of this dog they probably shouldn't be veterinarians But they insist so we's said OK. Then the doctor says that she wants us to put the muzzle on him and then we will take him in the back. someone will be in in a few minutes . Approximately 45 minutes later, no one has shown up. So we go ask how much longer will it be? just a few minutes they said and someone will be with you. 15 minutes later a girl shows up with a muzzle. We reach for it to put it on our dog and she says no I have to do it. What? The doctor said for us to do it . Well I must go ask she says. At this point we are ready to take our dog and run from these people. we said " you have already looked at his ears ran the test and determined that it is an infection so just give us the medicine and let us get out of here we been here too long, we have lost all confidence in you because no one seems to know what the other one is doing and we do not want you to take our dog in the back " so she says well then I'll go tell the doctor. Then the doctor comes in and says OK I'll examine him here and you can help me. So she listens to his heart looks at his ears again and says OK I'll write out the prescription for the medicine. More time passes and we finally get the medicine, pay $285.00, and take our very nervous dog out of there. It was such a long wait, and so unorganized that we felt like we were in a humans hospital.Read Less

The doctors I met explained in detail and in layman's terms the procedure Bruce would go through and how he would be cared for as he recovered there. I was put at ease each time they'd call to tell me a new shift would be overseeing Bruce's care, even their names! They answered every question I had with patience and understanding, even several days later when I called at 4 in the morning! When my lab was hit by a car, my vet casted his leg and then sent me here so he could be monitored overnight due to some bruising on his chest. Even though my vet contacted them several hours before we arrived, they still were not prepared to receive him when we arrived. They made him lay on a cold tile floor for almost 2 hours. We had to take our own coats off to cover him up, because the dog was shaking quite a bit (and they didn't seem to care about that at all). During that time, they only casually listened to his chest! When 2 staff members finally took him back on a stretcher, they brought him back five minutes later, forcing him to walk on a leash even though he could hardly stand up. I did not feel comfortable at all leaving him with them. I read about compassion in some of the reviews, but we did not receive any noticeable demonstration of that. We brought sufficient pain medication from his veterinarian, and instead of asking, proceeded to give him something entirely different. When we viewed the invoice later, we noticed they had charged us AGAIN for the very pain medications we had brought and left with them!!! We insisted they call and ask before they did anything extra with him and they assured us they would. They did get my permission before removing his cast because of major swelling in his leg (no wonder it swelled so terribly, how much they made him walk around on it); however, When I had to pay the invoice, there was a long list of unnecessary things that they did without my consent and they charged me for all of them, most of it was what our previous vet had already done and said the dog would not need, and that we would be saving quite a bit by having gone to our regular vet first. Remember, our main vet whom we trusted sent the dog here ONLY for breathing monitoring just to be safe. We almost took him home, instead we shelled out another 700 plus dollars. My dog was supposed to remain for 24 hours, but when we came to pick him up at the end of that time they said they had just cut him from his medications and would not send him home for 4 more hours and gladly charged us for the additional time. A lot of inconvenience and wasted time. They should have had to start paying us at that point, We also saw another man who had been waiting 30 minutes with his dog who was cut to the bone and bleeding every where. I thought they specialized in emergencies. I do have to say that a couple of the ladies at the front desk tried to be a helpful and considerate. They can't do anything about how the boss runs the business. I hope this review helps someone. Come here only if you have a life or death emergency and the pocketbook to be well overcharged. They can say all they want about emergency service needing to cost more, but they never behaved as if we were experiencing an emergency at all. That same day, 2 other friends , unbeknownst to us at the time, had taken their pets who were having emergency situations similar to our own into their family vets (in Auburn & in Grabill) - know what they walked out paying to their vets? $30!!!!!!!!! for better service than we received. A few moments later the vet came in to complete his exam and gave us several options right away, from best case to worst case scenario. We were there for nearly five hours, from check in to discharge, and the vet regularly came to provide us with updates regarding the procedure and let us know our cat was doing well. My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel leaped in the air, came down oddly and broke her leg right in front of me! The bone nearly protruding through her skin! Dr. Jason Matthew of NIVES was the first to see her. Both calm and sure Dr. Matthew cared for my little girl and gave me all the valuable information I needed, both pros and cons to make my important decisions for her well being. I elected for surgery and felt very confident in my choice and Dr. Matthew. Dr. Brad Coolman was my little girls Ortho Surgeon. He had meeting/consultations with Dr. Matthew and together they constructed the very best plan for my girl. Dr. Coolman personally called me before surgery giving me approximate time he would be operating and various details of what to expect. He followed up with a call to me after the surgery telling me how she did and what we would be dealing with for the next 6 to 8 weeks as she healed. Much of which Dr. Matthew had discussed with me previously. It was very comforting to hear conformation from both Dr.s. My experience has been nothing less than excellent for what my little girl and I were dealing with and I have the utmost confedence and respect for these Drs. and their most valuable knowledge and abilities. Our dog Stewey who was puking, lethargic, drooling excessively thinking he got into mushrooms which I seen in his vomit ..I called NIVES last night and told them what was up and they said to bring him in right away..we brought him and they took him to a room right away (this was around 7 or 8 pm) and worked as a team to take care of him. ..okay people. This is an emergency room no different than a hospital for people..it's gonna cost a lot that's common sense....this isn't the first time we've been here..they took good care of Stewey and kept acknowledging him while we sat in the lobby cause the seats were comfortable than the room with no cushion..oh yeah because we had to wait 30 minutes before his next treatment they were going to do.. stewey was soo sick n he would look to them for comfort and they would talk to him periodically which I thought was nice..we chose to do bare minimum but what was necessary for the night til we seen our family vet in the morning which was this morning (Fri)..Staff was awesome as always. ..n the female doctor was the same one that seen him 2 years ago still nice.....yall..they are human just like you and can forget to tell some things but you need to do research as well...that's what I do...my dog stewey is my son my life..so I Googled his symptoms b4 taking him in and then I asked a lot of questions even ones they prolly thought were silly. ..I would highly recommend this ER for your pets..just remember to do research and they are pricey...The Down fall is they don't take payments :( . Oh yeah..Our Family Vet has our stewey over night cause he got worse which was our fault by not letting them run blood work. .but our vet said he is very dehydrated n is pumping fluid in him which is what NIVES wanted to do as well...so, I would say ya'll know what your doing! Thank You for caring for our Stewey last night!Read Less

Our cat had started showing signs of possible bladder stones and, with it being Sunday afternoon, we called ahead and were provided with all of the information we needed, including any up front costs, which was appreciated. When we arrived we were taken to a room right away to fill out paperwork and have the vet tech take our cat's vitals. He was in a lot of pain and they were very gentle with him. A few moments later the vet came in to complete his exam and gave us several options right away, from best case to worst case scenario. We were there for nearly five hours, from check in to discharge, and the vet regularly came to provide us with updates regarding the procedure and let us know our cat was doing well. He explained everything very clearly and was so kind. We would highly recommend using Northeast Indiana for any emergency needs. They are very welcoming and willing to work with your primary care vet to keep expenses down for you. What a wonderful experience!! Read Less

They get one star on the fact that they were polite, other then that, they DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS. They only care about the money, first thing they tell you before they even tell you what there going to do is, tell you how much it's going to COST! AND IF YOU CANT AFFORD THAT THEN THEY WONT HELP. I am a loving individual of my pet and he was just attacked by another dog and they won't even help him because I can't afford the 800 to simply put a few stitches in,. The vet didn't even look under the wrap to see if it needed stitches. They just wanted me to pay for something with out knowing what's going on! Read Less

Thank you Dr.s and your wonderful staff for what you do. We are so blessed to have you here in Ft. Wayne.Read Less
