I had OK experiences with my old dog, but did not have much need to visit the vet either. Then I rescued a pup who seemed to have troubles from about 4 months on. Tanner scratched the corner of his eye open, went to Dr. Barnes who said he had allergies. So gave us prednisone and an antibiotic for the eye. Then he stared to get little red bumps/pimples around his "privates". Again went to see Dr. Barnes. Gave us another antibiotic and said it was a bacterial infection. Within another month the infection was back, as well as the it hing and scratching. So he was now given a shot for his allergies each month, and antibiotics everytime the infection came back. Ohhhhh, and then he started losing his hair. He asked if Tanner had ever been tested for thyroid problems. Well, since Dr. Barnes was the only vet Tanner had seen, I thought the question odd. Anyhow, he tested him and Tanner had thyroid problems now too. Each time I took him for his allergy shot, I would mention the hair loss, or the recurring infection. I was always told that it was just from the allergies and his immune system was low. Or, he would ask again if Tanner had ever been tested for thyroid issues. I would reply that yes, and he was already on medicine for that. Shouldn't he have already known that after 2. 1/2 years of treating him!!!!! I suppose...BAD ON ME, as that should have been my first clue. Finally my daughter took a few pictures of Tanner and showed them to her vet, who said there was obviously something different wrong with Tanner....he suggested skin problems and a dermatologist. I took him to the dermatologist who suspected Tanner was having issues from the alergy shots. She did not believe he had thyroid problems as that would be rare for such a young dog. So, three months later, no allergy shots, no thyroid medicine, no more infections either. He does have an allergy but most of the itching seems to have stemmed from the prior treatment prescribed by Dr. Barnes. I would never reccommend Dr. Barnes or Mt. comfort Animal Hospital!Read Less
