DO NOT GO TO THIS VET. They have no compassion for animals whatsoever. I took my dog into get groomed, he had to be sedated. After picking him up, I noticed his ears were chopped up. They cut parts of his ear off while he was asleep. I went in and they gave me some BS excuse and said “he’s an old dog (13 years) and older dogs have thin skin, it was an accident.” He was put under anesthesia and the lady still cut his ears with clippers. No refund, no apology’s, nothing. They didn’t even offer any ointment or antibiotics. Called other vets to explain the situation and to see if I was being over dramatic and they all agreed and said that I needed my money back. I have been in shambles for hours and will NEVER ever ever recommend this vet to anyone. They should be embarrassed. Read Less

I can't possibly say enough good about Dr. Barnes and his entire team.  This is not one of those vets that you go to and they want to run tons of expensive tests on your pet for every little thing. He is what I would call more of a country Doctor. He can usually identify the problem and come up with a solution right then and there. The entire team is so sweet and loving to every pet that comes in. About a month ago, we took our beloved 16 year old cat in because she had gotten very sick. We ended up having to have her put down, which any pet parent knows is one of the hardest things to have to do. After we said our final goodbyes, we walked out and one of the vet techs gave us each a hug and told us how sorry she was. And the other day, we got a card in the mail from the Hancock county humane society saying they received a donation from Dr. Barnes in memory of our sweet cat. Best. Vet. Ever. Read Less

I had OK experiences with my old dog, but did not have much need to visit the vet either. Then I rescued a pup who seemed to have troubles from about 4 months on. Tanner scratched the corner of his eye open, went to Dr. Barnes who said he had allergies. So gave us prednisone and an antibiotic for the eye. Then he stared to get little red bumps/pimples around his "privates". Again went to see Dr. Barnes. Gave us another antibiotic and said it was a bacterial infection. Within another month the infection was back, as well as the it hing and scratching. So he was now given a shot for his allergies each month, and antibiotics everytime the infection came back. Ohhhhh, and then he started losing his hair. He asked if Tanner had ever been tested for thyroid problems. Well, since Dr. Barnes was the only vet Tanner had seen, I thought the question odd. Anyhow, he tested him and Tanner had thyroid problems now too. Each time I took him for his allergy shot, I would mention the hair loss, or the recurring infection. I was always told that it was just from the allergies and his immune system was low. Or, he would ask again if Tanner had ever been tested for thyroid issues. I would reply that yes, and he was already on medicine for that. Shouldn't he have already known that after 2. 1/2 years of treating him!!!!! I suppose...BAD ON ME, as that should have been my first clue. Finally my daughter took a few pictures of Tanner and showed them to her vet, who said there was obviously something different wrong with Tanner....he suggested skin problems and a dermatologist. I took him to the dermatologist who suspected Tanner was having issues from the alergy shots. She did not believe he had thyroid problems as that would be rare for such a young dog. So, three months later, no allergy shots, no thyroid medicine, no more infections either. He does have an allergy but most of the itching seems to have stemmed from the prior treatment prescribed by Dr. Barnes. I would never reccommend Dr. Barnes or Mt. comfort Animal Hospital!Read Less

We have been taking our 2 dogs here since they were puppies. We have been thinking about switching to another vet for awhile and our latest visit made up our minds for sure. We have had great experiences with our dogs with 1 of the techs who works there. She has always been excellent with them. Everyone else has been subpar. For the most part, Dr. Barnes seems in a rush and doesn't listen to anything you say. The "relief vet", Dr. Elkin or something like that, was rude to us on our latest visit and that was the first time meeting her. She didn't introduce herself at all and seemed in a hurry from the minute she walked through the exam room door. One of our dogs is scared easily by strangers who come up to him and shove their hands in his face to try to pick him up and put him on the exam table without saying a word to anyone in the room. This is what one of the vet techs did on our latest visit. Entered the room, didn't say anything to anyone, and put his hands in our dog's face to start to pick him up. I don't know about anyone else, but I was always taught to at least let a dog sniff me before trying to do anything with it, let alone pick him up. Well, our dog was scared by this tech's sudden actions and nipped his hand. Not hard and it didn't break the skin. We apologized but also explained that he was scared and you didn't give him any sort of warning before doing that. To which Dr. Elkin (not sure this is how you spell her name seeing as you can't find her online anywhere on their website) replied, "well you could have warned us." She nor the tech said anything to us when entering the room and literally 5 seconds later the tech had been nipped. That's how quickly this situation occurred. If you make no introduction of any sort and lunge at our dog who's never met you to pick him up, when would have been the appropriate time to warn you exactly? After that point, the tech muzzled our dog and attempted to pick him up while our dog struggled, obviously scared. Dr. Elkin was rude for the duration of short appointment (our dog was being seen for an ear infection.) I don't think the tech said anything the entire time. I'm not impressed with this clinic at all. We will not be coming back. And for the record, we have taken our dog to 2 other vet clinics in the past for single visits, and he has NEVER had a problem with anyone. Never nipped, never acted scared.
