Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital

Indianapolis, Indiana
General Info
Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital in Indianapolis examines intricate sequences where light interactions with surface textures and human presence form an animal's initial response. In Indiana healthcare operates through cue-based design instead of command-based systems. During the initial minutes no interaction occurs. Pets examine floor surfaces while responding to temperature gradients and listening for hallway rhythms. Staff members monitor their positional alignment near walls and exits while standing by pet owners and simultaneously record blink rates alongside breathing patterns and sniffing actions. When tension accumulates the process reverses by dropping room tone and adjusting lighting while interactions reset through familiar motions or quiet mirroring. Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital delivers comprehensive care for aging pets through health screening alongside inflammatory response management and pain tracking while also offering dietary modulation and movement realignment services. The delivery of each step occurs solely when pattern familiarity has been firmly established. The visit proceeds when dogs choose reorientation over flinching and cats opt for observational approach instead of retreat. Home care plans incorporate sensory stacking logic to determine when to dim lights before meals, how to soften sounds in transitional zones, and where animal guidance should dictate re-entry pacing post-treatment. The briefing process for owners extends beyond basic instructions about medications and meals to include a detailed understanding of the state of calm before it becomes disrupted. The Indianapolis community receives veterinary care from Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital that initiates before physical contact and extends past patient discharge. That environmental consciousness creates enduring impacts throughout Indiana.

Unfortunately I don’t have an endless supply of money to put into pets. Not an easy decision. He made me feel aweful and suckered me into tests although I didn’t agree to all of the tests he wanted. $200 later no answers and home with my dog to have more accidents and prolong the inevitable. I have taken my animals to this vet for several years. The staff has always been great as well as the doc (including the ones he has covering when he's out). Our family has worked with other vets in the past. The prices here are comparable to others. Many times over the years, this vet has gone above and beyond for our pets. One example is when the staff and doc invited us to come in during off hours to love on our critically ill puppy. That meant the world to us, as we were able to hold him before he died. One of our other dogs got into something on December 23rd and had an allergic reaction. The staff not only guided me in what to do from home (via rapid fire texts), but the vet and the office manager met us in the clinic on Christmas Eve (yes, they were closed) to give meds to help with the dog's itching and swelling. The vet told us not to worry about it and wished us a Merry Christmas. It's wonderful to go to a vet where we and our pets are known and receive excellent transparent care.Read Less

Never had care that I would classify as exemplary, but was always satisfactory. When I took my sweet girl there to be put down, I knew I would never go back. It was so impersonal and dare I say, traumatic for me and my husband. Prior to that, I had never had to put a pet down - after 18 years with our cat, we had to make the tough decision to do so. If I were to go back and relive it, I would run like hell away from that place - I kid you not. I never went back to tell them how I felt, mainly because I had no desire to relive it - even if they had saved my animals a thousand times over, I would never have forgiven them for that experience. I took my dog to this vet due to him having stomach issues. I generally go to a different vet but my significant other went ahead and made an appointment at this location since they could get him in earlier in the day. I have to repeat what others have said here in that the assistants are wonderful but the vet seemed genuinely disinterested and rushed. He seemed more interested in running every test possible to get an answer than trying to pinpoint what it might be in the first place. The price definitely felt steep to come to the conclusion to just give my dog fluids and nausea medication. He kept referring to my dog by the wrong gender as well and as I was getting ready to leave it almost seemed like the vet was getting ready to speak badly about his patients. He was speaking with another staff member in the lobby and mid sentence saw I was in the room, paused, and seemingly changed the second part of what he was saying. It's really a shame because everyone except the vet was great but when it's him I'm going to see- I unfortunately can't recommend this place to anyone. I'll definitely be taking my dog to the same vet as my cats from now on. Read Less

I am SO disappointed with this vet hospital and will NOT be back, nor recommend this place to anyone. We took our dog Zeus here as a puppy to pick up dewormer. He was a pup and it was clear he had worms, so we just needed the medicine. I understand liability issues, but the wouldn't give us any dewormer until they saw him. $57 later we  had dewormer and a completely unnecessary vet appointment. We let it go, thinking it was liability that they see the dog and went on our way. Recently our dog has been getting sick and we couldn't figure out the problem. After doing some digging on our own, we realized he had chewed up his blanket and had partial blockage. We took Zeus back to this vet hoping for a quick and reasonably priced visit. After telling him exactly what we thought it was, they said we needed to do x-rays, blood work and a barium test. This confirmed he had a blanket stuck but not much at all. They recommended surgery with a $2,400 price tag even if they did surgery and found nothing. After that, we decided to get a second opinion. My fiance went to pick up our dog the same day and they proceeded to tell him we owed $900.00 just for the things done that day, even though they quoted him $500. I find it hard to believe there was a $400 difference from the quote to the actual price. Furious, we paid the bill and left, although now, we should have fought that price tag, as I'm sure a lot of what they did was probably unnecessary. After calling home to our regular vet he said to buy two bottles of pet laxative and try that first. $25 later the blanket came out and our dog is as good as new. This hospital immediately went to the most expensive treatments and never offered to try the laxative, which did end up working. We are $900 in the hole for a treatment that should have cost $25. Lesson learned. Stick with the vet back in your hometown and don't got to this clinic! Read Less

Read Less

This place doesn't even deserve a star. It's a complete rip off. I wouldn't mind spending money on my beloved cat because you can't put a price on him. This place did stuff that was absolutely unnecessary just to charge you more and more. I was disgusted by the fact that how much money hungry these people could be! My cat didn't get better so we had to go to another clinic that I paid half the price and my cat was recovered. Never ever consider going there! Read Less

I couldn't believe how wonderful Dr. Thunell explained all the things that would happen to Boe at his surgery. They told me about the special monitoring equipment they have and I knew Boe could not be safer than in their care. The front staff explained things the doctor didn't when I asked. They went over the bill carefully with me. The staff is professional and friendly. No one I would rather take Boe to. He is like family and so are the people at Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital! Read Less
