This review is waaaaaaay over due! We moved here 28 July 2004, and they have been our Vet since then. All of our dogs have received excellent care, and they love them. We feel like we are visiting family each time we go for a visit. They were there for us for the passing of each of our dogs, and they were very consoling. The only gripe I have is that they don't help my diet! Every time we are there my wife talks while I clean out their candy basket! I guess I shouldn't blame then huh! Well they could stop me! Dr. Carlson has been our vet for 16+ years and today IS NO LONGER!!!! Our chihuahua has been seeing her, his whole life. A year and a half ago, he started having a bladder issue. Unbeknownst to Us he had(TCC) CANCER of the bladder. The mass that had been growing/SPREADING for the past year. He now has to wear diapers due to her NEGLECT and lack of KNOWDLEDGE in cancer detection  and general diagnosing. She claimed it was simply old age Andy a bladder infection. After Multiple urine samples,blood test and a year of his life taken from him we decided to get a second opinion and take him to a different vet office. They diagnosed his bladder MASS day of with an ultrasound which was $57 at Hobart animal clinic. Which I I recommend. Versus Carlson's recommendation to putting him on under  sedation,at age 16, and  would have charged us $600. THIS MONEY HUNGRY vet doesn't realize that we care for our animals, not our pocketbook. We treat our pets life family and she looks at pets as dollar signs! $$$$$$$$ We would pay any amount to any  veterinarian that can diagnose correctly and give the best care!  Please learn from our mistake in trusting her. The whole staff was super nice. We just got a new puppy, and Dr. Carlson spent a lot of time answering all those questions you have when you bring a new furry member into your family. My husband and I took our 12 year-old Silky Terrier here for the first time Tuesday. We were very impressed with Dr. Carlson's knowledge, exam thoroughness, recommendations and ability to answer all of our questions. My parents went here for @ 20 years. Their new puppy was under medicated for his illness and size and ALMOST DIED. Carlson is TERRIBLE!!! Needless to say, they left and would never consider going back. Pure negligence on Dr Carlson. She shouldn't be allowed to practice and is why we're filing a complaint with the state licensing board. I can't say enough great things about Dr Carlson and Dr Huseman and the staff. From our first visit with our dog Reba, the staff and doctors made us feel welcome. Although we only had a short time with the doctors and staff before our Reba passed, we will be forever grateful during our time of sorrow on how they helped us through that terrible day. I am a Great Dane breeder and even when we had a litter of 10 pups they fitted us in quickly and then today when my baby girl Iggy got hurt we got in same day and they took very good care of her. This office is one of the most friendly vet offices I have been to in the past 5 years. I took my dog Zeus there for the first time today. Dr. Van Winkle was so nice and took the time to listen to my concerns, walk me thru what he was doing and everything. Most vets are like human doctors. In and out. Not this office. Dr. Carlson and all her helpers always take great care of me. As a 16-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, I have needed a lot of care over the years--dental cleanings, allergies, various lumps and cysts looked at, arthritis, treatment for seizures, etc. The ladies in the office are very nice and helpful too. My mom has had to call for help numerous times, like when she got worried after I ate a frog. Southlake Animal Hospital can always be counted on for exceptional healthcare. This was our vet for 20 years plus.  We have had all of our dogs groomed, boarded and cared for here until this last visit.  We have always told the clinic to please treat our dogs with the care they would give their own in or absence, no matter the cost.   We dropped our dogs off Tuesday night to be boarded.  I called almost daily to get an update on our dogs care and how they were doing.  I knew they would not eat.  I knew they would be depressed.  This is the answer I get every time I call.  I am used to this.  What I was not prepared for was that when I called to be told my dog was fine and to find out that that was not at all the case, but was not told that there was ever an issue.  My dog was treated for a knee issue on this last visit.  He was given an injection and rimidyl for his condition....to which I am still uncertain what that actually is.  I have no issue with him being treated without my consent. I would hope that they would make him comfortable.  What I am NOT OK with...I was never told that this had happened, even though I called every day they were boarded, but one.  I had called and told they were fine even on the day the injection was given.  Then when I called to find out what had happened after the dogs were picked up...I was told by the vet, "We don't call if your dog has diarrhea.  We just don't call for any little thing knowing you were on vacation".  That was the best answer I could get.  It is pretty sad that even in the comments that you can read in learning of Southlake Animal Hospital, you will see that 2 people have things to say about the clinic, Dr. Carlson and Andrea C.  They are one in same person.  Apparently, they are the only people singing the praises of Southlake Animal hospital at the time.  This was a much different place when it was owned and operated by Dr. Heusman.  We will never return there. I live out of the state of Indiana.  My dog was being taken care of by parents, who have always used Southlake for their vet needs.  I remember, as a kid, I rode there with my dad and our dogs every time they were sick.  He came down with some liver problems, and the vet prescribed an "all-natural"....I refuse to even call it medicine...that is designed to be an "immune booster."  First of all, a veterinarian should have access to thousands upon thousands of scientific journals that clearly explain the benefits of "non natural" medicine.  One time I had to give my dog an antacid off the store shelf (by prescription (from a more....competent vet).  Nothing natural about it, but it sure helped the vomiting.  Secondly, why in the *@#$@%@$! would you prescribe an immune booster for a malfunctioning liver???  My dog came back to my home, and the local vet showed me Alkaline Phosphatase enzymes near 1,000!  Are higher antibodies really going to fix this?  He also several tumors.  They're benign, thankfully, but one of them is the size of a tennis ball, and these people never mentioned it!  I found it as I was cuddling with him at the end of the day when he first came back.This vet is NOT recommended.  Stay away.  Stay far, far away.  There are so many more intelligent vet services available.
