Staff is friendly and courteous, but the compliments end there. I brought my dog in to see them and they told me that he had a kidney infection and I would need to spend additional money to determine what kind of infection. When I asked several questions, including if we could treat with antibiotics without the additional $200 culture. The vet said that it was risky and could delay proper treatment. This sounded reasonable, so I said go ahead. On Wednesday, they said that we should get the results and get antibiotics started ASAP. I had to ask a couple of times whether I could start the pain killers that they had already sent home with me. After being told to hold on the pain killers until the culture came back, I waited through the weekend and didn't get a call. On Monday I called the office mid-morning after still no communication. They said they had the results but no prescription. I had to leave a message with the receptionist and wait for a call back. The call back came later via voicemail (Monday night or Tuesday Morning). They had two options for an antibiotic and a replacement painkiller. When I went in to pick up the script (Tuesday after lunch), they didn't have a record of the painkiller being prescribed. Furthermore, they wanted $100 for an antibiotic that I was able to find on petmed for $11. The alternative was another antibiotic that cost $55. I asked for a paper script at this point and asked if they could go ahead and write a paper script for the pain meds as well. After sitting in the office for a few minutes, the receptionist said that it could take a while, so offered to email the scripts to me. She said that she would have to ask the office manager for permission to ask the vet who would then write the script. I waited all afternoon and called again Wednesday morning (1 week after being told that we should start the antibiotic asap). After explaining that my dog needed a more professional level of service, the receptionist promised to have a script ready for me by noon. At 2:30 pm, having heard nothing from them, I drove to the clinic for a third time and purchased the overpriced medicine, as I didn't feel it would be responsible to continue to delay treatment. Took our dog in with large bump on leg, They did a FNA biopsy and came in and told us our dog had cancer. Not that it looks like cancer or could be the vet specifically said im sorry to tell you this but your dog has cancer, said there were cancer cells seen under the microscope. Advised to have the mass removed. We had mass removed and sent for pathology to see what stage of cancer and when the results came back... Surprise no cancer or pre cancer found in the entire mass! While we are grateful our dog does not have cancer, we spent over $800 to remove what turned out to be a callus! Do not recommend going here! Read Less

Staff is super friendly and helpful. My dog had to get regular rabies shots and boosters and got a heartworm test and they were really fast and gentle with her. She even got some peanut butter out of it all. Read Less

My husband and I took our mastiff mix there after showing signs of being very ill. This was our first visit and they got us an appointment right away to get him seen. The staff was very professional and super friendly! Even though we were there for him being sick, he was in desperate need of a nail trim which they got taken care of as well while we were there. I've never had an issue before, they have always been good to my cats and still are. But earlier I was given some rough information about my cat and I started crying. Because I care about my cat very much, the vet looks at me and says she needs to go get tissues and never comes back... We dealt with the assistant the rest of the visit.. She was great, but we didn't see the doctor again.. I just used the paper towels in the room to clean myself up. Just have a heart, our pets mean a lot to us, if we get bad news don't say you'll come back with tissues and disappear. It's not nice or professional. There's a chance she got teared up too, but at least finish the visit or have someone apologize on their behalf. I was crying hard, however I understand that job can pull at the heartstrings. I was just charged the most that was quoted on phone for exam, reason it took longer than 15mins, because of them not me, and the doctor was not even with us 15mins. They also have a sign posted that they are going to charge an additional 7%, if using a Care Credit card. I don't think that they should receive any bonuses when they are paid. I know that they do not treat staff well, but thought that they could at least care for animals. Used this place for cost & care, but NOT ANYMORE!!! If I'm going to be charged higher, it would be nice to see some quality. Read Less

I have been taking my two older dogs to Emerson for several years. We are moving out of state and I hope I get a new vet half as good as Dr. Mullins. She explains everything in detail. She is always extremely thorough in her exams. She always takes time with my dogs. She is obviously fond of my dogs. With one dog 13 years old, I felt like she looked at every tiny thing. She never lectured me, but always talked WITH me. I quit going to Dr. Smith a few years ago because I felt she didn't explain well to me what was going on, and she didn't do as thorough physical exam on my dogs as I would like. Like other folks here, I have witnessed some rudeness on the part of the front office folks. But in their defense, when it happens it's because pet owners are trying to cheap out on their animals - not getting a blood test but wanting diabetes medicine, angry because spaying doesn't come for almost free, walking up to the counter with an attitude etc. If you are not trying to take short cuts, I have never seen anyone be rude. If I worked there (or at any vet's office) I would be throttling alot more people. I am at the vet's alot, and I hear things. A couple of them aren't kissy-face friendly, but I've never heard them be rude to people who weren't acting like jackasses. I will miss you, Dr. Mullins. A whole lot. I found both the vet and the tech to be more than helpful. I have been a tech, the people who are complaining that they took their animal to another room without you there is a reason they do this. Most animals are freaked out in the first place, some procedures require a good"hold", most owners would A.) Freak out and think they were holding their "baby" too tight, but this is necessary to keep everyone including the animal safe and B.) The owner freaking out would only aggitate the animal more. I have to agree with the comment if you want a vet that will kiss your behind and you want to pay out the nose for that service..go elsewhere, but if you want affordable, compassionate care that might require a little wait time then this would be the place for you. don't go here. poor customer service. poor attitude. lack of thoroughness and carefulness. provided worm meds and flea meds without first ensuring pet was in good health. provided no explanations and no written directions which was especially dangerous with flea meds - vectra which is more potent than some other brands. they sold vectra loose, not in the box, without those written instructions that are always included when sold in the box. according to web, vectra has had high incidence of bad reactions, including some lethal. so it's imperative that user gets good instructions so they use it correctly. after i read about vectren online, i tried to return unopened packages. they refused to take back stating that it was prohibited by federal law. i tested that by contacting other suppliers of flea meds and found there was no problem in returning unopened packages. overall experience -- the staff at this clinic were cold, uncaring, and dishonest. there's something off going on here. I called in a 2 times after my kitty was diagnosed with a UTI concerned with the amount of meds given to treat him. I know nothing about treatment or medication amounts. The bottle did not look like it would last 7 days. I called in with concern around day 4, they advised i called back in if there was not going to be enough medicine! When i called back, I was treated inappropriately by the vet tech. Rude condescending disrespectful unhelpful attitude toward me from the beginning of the convo, then she said ""i dont have time for this, I have other people in front of me!"" and then hung up on me. The office manager did promptly called me back after I called back (after the hang up) and thoroughly explained (professionally) how treatment worked with the meds that were given to me! Even tho she(office manager) was nice and professional after her rude employee, I will never go there again..Its so close to my house and tried to support neighborhood businesses but if they treat customers like that, guess how they are treating your animal!! jus sayn :) Stay away if you value good business and professionalism and your self worth (who wants to feel like that after you spent $100 at a ""PLACE OF BUSINES??"" I have had many wonderful experiences with this clinic. I take both dog and cat and have gotten good service, fair prices, etc. I am not sure what the negative remarks were on here, but they are from the same date, so probably someone didn't get their way. I have had Dr. Smith and Dr. Walther come to my house for housecalls for years. Recently Dr. Smith came to my house to put my 12 years old dog to sleep. She was so compassionate and caring. She talked me thru the process and stayed for awhile after it was done. They even took care of the remains for me. I was impressed for years before, but this just confirms what a great vet. I don't believe the bad reviews listed here. I think all 3 are same person, same date. Go for yourself and see. Ask for Dr. Smith. Read Less
