Dr. Morrissey and Dr. Bill have always taken great care in evaluating our cats to provide necessary and realistic treatment. They may occassionally ask for additional testing because they really care about your animals. They also do very respectful euthanasia and even offer to give you a paw print in clay to keep as a momentum. I also can't say enough good about the rest of their staff. Great vet! Read Less

When humans are sick we dont go to the doctors office for emergencies we go to the ER. Therefore, don't pass bad judgement on them when they aren't equipped for all emergencies. Read Less

Update: Why would someone rate Dr. Morrissey a 6 out of 5 and the clinic a one out of five? As a senior citizen and consumer of services I have had numerous experiences with Veterinarians and two that were personal friends. Unquestionably Dr Morrissey as co-owner is knowledgeable and personable and is credited with saving my wife’s dogs life! I am grateful beyond compare! She is GREAT! The office however; is in dire need of skill sets revolving around consumer interaction. If you can get past the seemingly indifference of being put on-hold when calling you will receive the best care possible in Des Moines. I do suggest Dr. Morrissey over other DVM's at their facility. Presently Dr. Morrissey is trying and guiding us on saving the life of our other Dog. We appreciate her compassion and efforts. Read Less

I agree with the guy before. I have spent thuosands with this vet to try and get my feline normal and over 4 years it didn't happen until I was forced to tell them how I felt. My cat has skin allegies and all she needs is meds she can take 2 times a week. But no they won't do that. Anytime I need them they make them bring her in for $200 visit just to tell me the meds will shorten her life span. She's a senior cat and all I want is for her to be happy while she is here. But they make you bring her in to "check her" all just to give me the meds anyways. Enough is enough. Read Less

I know there's already a lot of reviews on here. But I'll throw my opinion into the hat. I'm cutting ties with this vet. I want to remain anonymous on here and not make any enemies. But I will say to potential pet owners, be wary of these people trying to get you in for unnecessary visits and tests. They will site specific possible issues and ask you to come in for small unnecessary visits in order to make money off of you. If you resist these tactics, the vets will use fear and guilt with you as a way to get you to cave in on their recommendations for tests and multiple vet visits. And I'm sure the vet will respond to this by saying that all of their concerns are legitimate. And that's the beauty of their situation. We don't know any better as pet owners. So the vet can say those things all day long and we cannot refute them. But I do know my gut feeling when I am being scammed. And when a vet is trying to make me feel guilty or that I am a bad pet owner in order to get me to spend more money, that's the point where I know something is wrong and it's time to get a second opinion. All that being said, the techs and receptionists are friendly. They're pretty prompt in seeing your pet, so if it's an emergency it's not a terrible place to go. But be very wary of tactics used to get you to pay them more money. I'm not trying to be a jerk or badmouth a company. I have no hard proof of anything that I've leveled against them. All I can go off of is my gut and the huge amount of money that I have spent that has lead to absolutely no results with my pet. Read Less

I called asking for advice on my cat, who had just gotten off of antibiotics from my vet, offered to have my vet (who's 45mins away) fax over his records and was told they were too full to see him and unable to fill a script for an animal they haven't seen, my vet when I called him back offered to call you guys but again you wouldn't even help my cat out. That's rude that we know what he needs and yet you won't help a poor cat out. Even a human Dr's office would help a human out if they had orders from another office. Guess, I won't be bringing my cat here when we fully move down here, and my boyfriend will seek other veterinary care with his animals. In my opinion you don't care about animals like you should. I've always had positive experiences bring my cat here. The nurses are personable and connect with Shadow and myself. The doctors have always been caring and honest. I've been bringing Shadow here his whole life, almost 13 years now and they always provide quality care at a fair price. Read Less

Been going here for over 1 year and I am very satisfied with the care they have provided my 2 dogs!  Dr Morrisey always takes time to explain what tests she suggests and why they should be done.  The front desk staff is also very friendly and can always fit us in at short notice.  Prices seem to be in line with other full service veterinary hospitals. I will not be returning. I came for my cat's shots and to discuss declawing. Immediately, I was overwhelmed with different tests and procedures they wanted to do that had nothing to do with shots. I had to refuse several times. Even then, the bill was extremely high. Because of the bill and all the information I was given for unnecessary tests, I will not be returning to get my cat declawed. I know they care about animals but their idea was too extreme and too expensive. Read Less

Just moved back to Des Moines area and found this vet very convenient to our new home. Unfortunately we have not had very nice experiences with them on most of the visits, as we kept giving them chance to make sure what we experienced wasn't just an isolated incidence. Each time, there was one women at front desk that was rude and never very pleasant. There is one of the women DR's the same way that refused to help out our pet overcome anxiety of being in new place and having to be left alone in his cage for the first time.  He was breaking his teeth off and rubbing his skin off trying to get out. We asked for med to calm him down and she refused to give it to him saying it was a "training issue and she doesn't give meds for any behavioral issues"!!!! Even though it was temporary to get him adjusted and prevent him from injuring himself!!! Really?  You would rather see our pet injured than provide something to calm him!  You wouldn't have a problem helping him after all the injuries were made though, right?  Why won't you help prevent them?!  The only reason for 2 stars is due to the Vet Tech, he was very nice, helpful, and pleasant to deal with.  Perhaps he can hold a training session for you others that need help in your jobs. Think Customer Satisfaction and concern for pets!!  Very disappointed with moving back and experiencing this type of care.  We would really like to stay with this office being so close, but.... Even talking to one of our neighbors, he said he also had to make change due to similar reasons!  Whoever's in charge or owns the place needs to get involved and make changes before you drive more customers away. My husband and I move around the country for his work and we ended up in Des Moines, IA.  We lived right on the border of Altoona and found this vet to be a great choice.  We took our 2 dogs and cat there and they did excellent work.  I am a former veterinary technician and I found that all of the care they offered and did was completely appropriate.  We saw Dr. Bill and he was great with our pets and even on a couple of short notices he was able to see our pets.  He was also very educated and helped me learn about the lay of their land in Iowa on what kind of care my pets needed for the environment.  The front office staff is very nice and the place is really clean and organized.  Even after we moved to another state they helped us out with some medication needs until we found a new vet in our new state.  They are very caring and kind and I would highly recommend them for veterinary care. Haven't used their vet services yet.  I came here while I was in Iowa because this vet sells the prescription food my cat needed.  As long as you have a prescription from another vet, they will sell you prescription food if you need it for your pet.  My cat likes Royal Canin Renal LP.  This veterinary practice was accommodating in ordering larger quantities so I could stock up and not have to get it as often.  The front office looks clean and neat, staff was friendly.  If necessary, I would bring my cat here.  If that happens, I will update my review.  If you are at Adventureland, this vet service is about a mile from the park.  I came here in both a rental car and my scooter. September 2014 Update:  I ended up having to take my cat here for some urinary issues.  My cat hates vets and hisses and growls the minute we are in the door.  But here, my cat came right out of the carrier, and on to the table, didn't have to coax him out.  The vet who saw him said he was very good.  He didn't growl once during the taking of urine from his bladder, but he did growl a bit on the blood draw.  (My cat doesn't like more than one procedure done to him at one time.)  I say, let your pet be the judge.  If your pet refuses to tolerate certain vets, move on to another one!  Based on my cat's judgement, I'm giving them four stars!
