I have recently moved to Iowa with my little chihuahua & I needed a hospital/clinic that I could trust for the cares of my beloved little chihuahua. I got a high recommendation from friends. I really like the special care & attentiveness that heart of Ankeny animal hospital has for both me as an owner & my loving pet. I feel that I could trust leaving my little chihuahua in there hands for their services. Am also impressed in how the hospital cleaned my little chihuahua teeth. We love this place. They've always taken great care of our two dogs. Staff know and remember the dogs. They offer great options luxurious kennels and playtime. It was always great knowing that level of service is going on while our dogs are there. The entire staff at Heart of Ankeny is amazing! We starting going there shortly after they opened in 2014 with our new puppy Zoey. She had a heart condition and Dr. Munger got her on medicine that made her a new dog! We got the puppy plan and was very worth the investment because we took her in for check ups often that year. In 2015 Zoey's seizures were becoming more frequent and Dr. Munger called IVRC and explained the situation in detail so we wouldn't have to. After an overnight visit we were called and told in more detail than we could understand that Zoey wouldn't be coming home. We asked them to call Dr. Munger and explain because we didn't get it. She called us and walked us through what would happen and asked if we needed anything. The kindness that she showed as well at the other girls in the office with a very nice card we received was more than we ever expected to receive. 2 months later when we called to tell them we got another puppy they were so excited for us! We have been so happy with everything there that we now have had 6 dogs in our family that have gone to Heart of Ankeny.Read Less

Dr. Munger and staff are fantastic.  I had a very itchy Old English Sheepdog and they were able to get her in ASAP.  Daisy ended up with fleas :/  - we missed that last dose of flea prevention! Dr. Munger got rid of the fleas, the staff gave her a bath and a treatment for her sores.  Daisy was feeling great when we picked her up!  We are all thrilled with the Heart of Ankeny Animal Hospital! We left our dog for the weekend in boarding. Picked him up and he has a injury on his nose that we were not informed about and their excuse does not make sense. Has poop matted in his fur. Not worth what they charge since they don't take care of your pet only leave them in a cage! Read Less

My dog loves coming here! I really like that they have different care plans so you can pick what plan works best for you and your dog. I've had to board Aspen twice now and even though I have a hard time leaving her it's really reassuring to me that as soon as you walk through the door everyone knows your dog by name. We have now taken our two dogs to this particular vet 3 times. The first time was as to be expected, although the wait time was longer than anticipated. The second time took even longer. The third time was the longest, as we took both dogs at the same time. My frustration with this clinic is that to draw labs, even a simple T4 or heartworm draw, they take the dog away from you into the back of the clinic. This only furthers the anxiety the dog may be going through. The last two time we have gone it has taken at least 45 minutes to complete the visit. This is way too long. Our border collie, who had waited too long and got too stressed out, once finally seeing the vet for his wellness check (and barely got one anyway since he was too anxious by the time she came in - we were still charged!) then had to have a muzzle placed because he started to act out and growl. I don't blame them for being scared that he would bite, although he never would. I am afraid that I will now be left with a dog who is scared to go to the vet when he used to LOVE going. You could tell him he was going to the doctor and he would go bananas. All in all, very underwhelmed and quite irritated at how this has played out. We will not be coming back to Heart of Ankeny Vet. My beloved Gizmo, a 10 year old Shih Tzu, became very sick and I brought him in to Heart of Ankeny Hospital. Dr. Stacey Munger knew immediately that my sweet Gizmo was ready to go to doggie heaven, although I wasn't ready to let him go. She was incredibly kind and compassionate, as well as the rest of her staff. They let my daughter and me say our goodbyes as long as we needed and didn't push us to leave. The other day I received a card in the mail, signed by the entire staff, expressing their sympathies. I cannot recommend this animal hospital enough! Because of the beautiful care we recieved, I will always bring any future furbabies to these warm, wonderful, and knowledgeable people. Thank you for making my Gizmo last hours comfortable. I took my 3 year old cat who had a UTI here after several recommendations on a Facebook swap site, they were quick to fit us in on short notice and very honest and very reasonably priced compared to other veterinarians I have been to. The entire staff at Heart of Ankeny was very kind and professional and you can sense that everyone there does what they do everyday because it's what they love! I also just took my cat here for boarding over the 4th of July holiday weekend and this too was very reasonable and my cat was happy and healthy when I picked him up this morning! I would recommend this place to anyone seeking a trustworthy veterinarian in the area who is reasonably priced because the health of your animal is priority but shouldn't require a second mortgage! We have found a vet we trust. Thank you for your patience Dr. Munger and her staff. Partner is not an easy pup to handle, and they do such an amazing job with him. Dr. Munger is very intuitive to his emotions, and knows how to slowly respond to him when he is stressed. They are fantastic at explaining any procedures or blood work he may need. And, even more fantastic at explaing to the owners what their pets are feeling, and options to provide him with help. No matter how many times you may need something explained, she takes the time to make sure you understand. I trust her with all my heart. Thank you so very much. I've taken my dog there for boarding twice and neither time was good. The first time I had to take her back and spend nearly $500 to fix an infection she undoubtedly got there. 2 days later I had to take her to the emergency vet as she was still extremely ill. All in all spent over $1000 for their dirty hospital. The second time she had a spot removed from her back. When I took her in to have the stitches removed I told the vet I was sure they weren't ready to be remover. She assured me they were healed just fine. That night at midnight the scar had re-opened and had to rush her to the hospital again. I would consider other alternatives unless you want to spend a crazy amount of money for what is in my opinion a questionable practice. Read Less
