Our cat "Fennel" developed an abscess on his back over the weekend. It appeared to cause him a lot of discomfort so I didn't want to wait to see my regular vet on Monday. We went down Sunday evening and were seen almost immediately. The doctor and staff were extremely professional and caring. Dr. Crow was very informative and thorough about his wound and after care. "Fennel" was given an injection of antibiotic that was long acting to save him (and me) the stress of daily medicating. After tons of affection and kisses from their staff, we were on our way. Over the weekend my dog got away from my daughter and was hit by a car. I immediately took him to the animal emergency center to get assistance. The moment I walked in the door, the staff professionally and confidently assessed the situation. I was kept well informed about his condition and treatment. Nobody plans for these types of emergencies to happen. But, I am beyond grateful that this facility exists in our community. I struggle to understand the mindset behind those who write negative reviews based on finances. Owning any pet is just like having a child. If you do your research, you will see that many of the same medications and equipment in a pet hospital are similar to those in a human hospital... So why would someone expect the cost to be less? I don't expect anyone else to pay for my pets expenses let alone care for my pet so why would you? This clinic has gone above and beyond to help nurture my dog back to normal health. I took my cat that got bit by a dog and was bleeding from the nose and in the ear. They said he had a concussion gave me very high priced meds 40.00 for 4 doses and charged me 189.00. I took him to a different vet ( city line vet) later in the day. The doc found a hole in the roof of his mouth from the bite. That is what was causing the bleeding. They gave me meds 30.00 for 22 doses of the medication that the emergency vet charged me 40.00 for and charged me 86.00 with the correct diagnosis. The Bettrndorf emergency clinic shouldn't even be in business they are dumb and rip people off big! They take advantage of people who are willing to do anything to save their pets! I cannot fathom what sort of money hungry scam artists would turn away a pet in need because we couldn’t afford the $100 before they even touched him plus whatever other tests they had to run. The man at the front desk was at least up front with us that it was going to be expensive, but he was also very rude. I stated to cry because she said she needed $600 to do all kinds of test, just for a diagnosis, plus the $100 I already paid! She snapped at me to look up from my phone and listen to her! She told me to call ever person I know to come up with the money and sent in her nurse to give me care insurance form to fill out! I took my 13 week old puppy here yesterday morning because I witnessed him vomit a solid object, but before I could get him out of his kennel to get the object, it was swallowed again. I rushed him to this vet so have him examined. As I walked in the secretary/tech at the desk scolded me for not calling before hand (sorry, I was worried about my puppy.) The tech that came into the room was awesome (different one from the secretary person), but the vet herself seemed cold and uncaring. She said it was probably mucous, and dismissed my concerns, despite the fact that I WITNESSED the solid object be swallowed. She said she didn't feel anything, hear anything or feel anything. He just vomited up a sock. It's a wonderful service that they provide, but I wish there was another option in the area. If this was a normal vet office, I would take my dog somewhere else.Read Less

I'm a veterinarian over at Whitehaven Vet Center and we had a client bring her dog to the AEC with an injured leg 6 weeks ago. They applied the most perfect splint I have ever seen. The little dog was was able to wear the splint comfortably for the whole 6 weeks until we removed it today and she walked around on the leg. Dr. Benge has been there to help my dogs on more than one occasion. I brought a dog in with what I suspected to be pyometra. She did not fit the classic signs, but in my heart I knew. Dr. Benge listened to me and trusted my judgement providing quality care for her until she could be referred to a specialist who confirmed pyometra. I live about halfway between the Quad Cities and Peoria, and I will be using the Peoria emergency facility for animals in the future if one of my pets needs emergency / 24-hour attention. Dr. Crow was very accusatory toward me, stating that my dog is extremely obese. I live an hour away and I wanted to stay there till morning and she became rather hostile when I told her that. This woman has little or no people skills. Maybe she doesn't think she needs any because she is a veterinarian, but her lack of empathy and respect for me was enough to turn me off to that place PERMANENTLY! There are other places I can go if my pets are in need of after hours care. Also, they charged me twice, one for the estimate and again when I finally checked out. That was almost a week ago, the second charge has not been removed, will have to call again. All they care about is money and they have no empathy at all for peoples' feelings - at least Dr. Crow doesn't - her name fits her well! P.S. She could stand to lose a few pounds herself! Just updating this: As of 6:32 pm, July 28th, there is a pending charge of $665 on my checking account - this is after these bloodsuckers were PAID IN FULL! So this has been "pending" on my checking account for over NINE DAYS!! These "people" will never touch one of my animals again! I would not be surprised if this is being done on purpose just to be vindictive - NO WE DON'T WANT VINDICTIVE PEOPLE HANDLING OUR ANIMALS! I have had to call my bank and have them fax a request to this terrible place. I have never met a more obnoxious veterinarian than that Dr. Crow. I hope for the sake of the animals she gets out of veterinary medicine and goes into being an unemployed psychopath. Read Less

I was there last week for my dog. Right away when we got there they were able to help her. They were very compassionate and understanding and even under the circumstances it was a good experience. I thought that it was going to be so much more expensive than it was, so I was happy. I'd pay anything to help my dog but it's always nice to see a smaller bill than you thought was going to come. If I could give this place a 0 star I would. After taking my dog here in 2010 it died within 24 hours and now again after having to take my new dog to this vet due to it getting sick on a weekend it also died within 24 hours. This is a dog that had just been to the vet twice in December for a check up and to be fixed, a dog that had all of it's shots was fed natural food and regularly excercised who had never been unhealthy. The vets are worthless and will kill your beloved animals without remorse. I highly suggest you wait to see your regular Veterinarian rather than waste your money here because they can't perform emergency surgery nor can they cast., they can pretty much only charge you an arm and a leg for blood work, a cat scan and an appointment and then send you on your way 1200 in the hole with a still sick/ injured animal. Very quick service and the staff are truly concerned about your pet. The only downside is that I suspect, like a lot of vet places, they only give you the most expensive options to help your pet. My cat had had a stroke and was clearly blind and hadn't been cleaning herself for months; they completely ignored the second part and offered too-expensive shots that she would have to endure for the rest of her life, leaving us only with the option to put her down. So we took the puppy to ambassador animal hospital in Clinton first thing Monday morning and come to find out the puppy had parvo and passed away later that afternoon. This place is horrible, but like most vets, they're in it for the money and not to actually help your animal. I have done a run in with them twice, both times they would not even look at my animal without 85 dollars up front, (While I was on the phone bawling both times because my animals were suffering) One dog -all- I needed was a collar to but cut off because some how my dog got it stuck in her mouth. But, no..They wouldn't do it. Unfortunately they are the only ones open for emergency care. If you have the money, go for it, Unfortunately if you are "low income" and do not have 80 someodd dollars for the emergency, you're screwed and your animal has to suffer and or die. Read Less
