I had to bring my best friend of many years to the clinic on Mount Vernon Rd. recently. Her name was Smithy. It was very hard to say goodbye to Smithy but Dr. Mark was one of the most kind persons I have ever dealt with. He made one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do at least bearable because of his excellent service and especially his kindness. Thank you Dr. Klopfenstein. Read Less

We have had Mark Klopenstein take care of our dogs and cat for over 20 years. I would not let anyone else care for my pets. He cares for our pets as they are his. He has done major surgery on one of our dogs with a great turn out. I would recommend he to anyone. We had seen him at Linn Animal Hospital for years just started at this location. On Friday, July 12, 2013, at 10:54, I was driving to visit a potential client on Mt. Vernon Road. I saw a black cat in the middle of the road that had obviously been hit be a car and was struggling to move. I stopped and moved it from the road. While I was deciding how to get care for it, I looked up and, of all things, saw a veterinary clinic....Animal Medical Center. I took the cat in and was turned away. They didn't want to see it, care for it, or even keep it in a cool place until I could arrange care. I explained that I would cover any costs incurred and was told simply, no. I took the suffering creature to the Humane Society (thankfully just down the road) and they agreed to hold it for me in a cool cage until I could change my appointment and arrange something. They even gave it a sedative so it would be more comfortable. I came back for the cat within 15 minutes and they gave me the still-living cat and a free plastic carrier. I took the cat to the 24-hour emergency clinic near the Cedar Rapids airport, but the critter expired on the way. The concern and care from the staff at both the Humane Society and the emergency clinic was very apparent....we were all saddened by the death of a healthy female short-hair. I'll let you make your own decision about the Animal Medical Center......but I would not trust them with a rat. Read Less
