Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and helpful - we had no problems there. It's a smaller clinic, so its not a bunch of pets/people in there waiting - smaller, friendlier place.

Completely terrible. I had called two different times asking prices for an exam and vaccinations. Both times I was told $45 for the exam and the annual shots were included. When I went in for an appointment I got the annual shots and was charged over $100. I had only gone in with $70 and was accused of lying and not paying attention when I explained what I was told. I then said it must have been a miscommunication could you bill me the rest and I will pay it Friday when I get paid and the assistant told me she had to go ask management cause it's up to him. She then went and asked the Doctor and he said no. Dr. Paulsen continued to say that i can just leave my cat there until I can come pay the rest. I refused, he then simply walked over and took my cat from me and took him to the back and refused to give him back until I paid. He called me irresponsible and that I need to grow up. His staff of one looked completely mortified and didn't know what to say but sorry over and over. I refuse to ever talk my pets there again. Read Less

I was so disappointed with the lack of professional care!! I was told when I called that the Dr. likes to give 5 vaccinations right from the start. I told her that is NOT what I wanted. I said I only wanted what my dog needed and I had her vac. history with me. She said she would call the Anamosa Vet, I had previously gone to, and get it also. I wanted a vet closer to Cedar Rapids. I scheduled the appt. and brought the vac. history with me when we went. In the exam room I ...told the Dr. I had my dogs history and got it out for him to see. he told me he didn't need to see it and proceeded to give my dog 4 shots with 5 vaccinations in them. he gave me a recommendation to get her teeth cleaned and I said I would schedule an appt. It wasn't until I got home and looked at the list of what they gave my dog that I realized something was wrong!. they had given her a 3 year rabies shot that wasn't due for another year. they gave her a Bordetella & a Lyme shot, totally unnecessary for my little inside dog, according to my Anamosa Vet. they also gave her a Leptospirosis 4 way shot that is given typically given to outside dogs. And they gave her the Distemper that she DID need. The cost $105.50. $83 more and 3 shots she DID NOT NEED! When I called their office 5 days later, after research and phone calls to my Anamosa Vet, I went personally to discuss this with them. Dr Ken and his assistant were negligent in looking at any vac. history or calling my previous vet. They both denied any wrong doing and lied about calling my vet and the fact that I specifically said that I only wanted what she NEEDED, yet could not answer the OBVIOUS question of why a Rabies shot was given a year early. I feel that I should have been reimbursed for the 4 vacs. my dog was given that were not needed, $83.00. total. Dr Ken offered to give me 1/3 of $22.50 for the Rabies that was given a year too soon. when I refused that offer he said " theres the door". I DO NOT want anyone else taken advantage of and that is why I am writing this. Anamosa Clinic said that I should file a complaint with the Better Buisiness Bureau . Cheryl Skala See More Read Less

I can't say enough nice things about this clinic, so I'll bullet point my experiences to keep it more concise. 1.) I trust Dr. Paulsen's opinions and integrity. He brings a pad of paper and a pen into the exam room and read off the prices of the vaccines, shampoo, office visit, etc. He made sure we agreed to each thing as we went along. 2.) We've taken our cat to the clinic for a respiratory infection when we got him from a shelter, shots boosters and a front declaw with a laser. He wasn't scared at all, and Dr. Paulsen spent extra time petting him. 3.) Our dogs are delicate flowers. One is on prescription food and has allergies. He's been in for vaccinations, allergy shots, skin rashes and a sulfur lime dip. He's never nervous going to the vet and LOVES the office staff. 4.) When our other dog got sick with a digestive issue, they were helpful and supportive. When they couldn't determine the root cause of the issue after doing tests, they referred us out to another clinic with more diagnostic equipment. When it was determined that our course of action was to have our dog put to sleep, we called Kenwood instead of going back to the vet we were referred to. When I called to set up the appointment, Sarah in the office told me what to expect when we came in. They schedule the appointments at the end of the day so there isn't commotion and you can take your time. 5.) I saw a lady walk into the office with her cat wrapped in a bag. She was clearly upset by her recent loss. Dr. Paulsen greeted her at the desk and the woman started apologizing that her pet was dirty, but said he'd been too sick to care for himself lately. Dr. Paulsen took the cat from her, and said he'd clean him up himself. He treated her so kindly.             I'm shocked by the other reviews I've read. My experiences have been so positive. I'm dreading the day Dr. Paulson decides to retire. Read Less

I cannot believe all of the negative reviews. I've been going to this vet for 18 years, and not one time have I had any problems with all the numerous cats and dogs of mine, that have seen Dr. Paulsen over that span of time. You'd think I would've had one bad experience as numbers would say, but no. He treated my dog for heart-worms, and just recently did a splendid foot repair with stitches on another dog's rear paw. He literally saved my dogs foot from becoming gangrene, and prevented her from becoming a 3 footed canine. I wish those people saying the bad things would publicly announce who they are. They're not going back to see him anyway, they say. So identify. There would be less negatives if they did identify themselves. What I like most about this vet is that it will be highly unlikely to show this vet something that he hasn't experienced before. You cannot teach experience. Read Less

Absolutely horrible experience. I brought my cats in for standard shots and spay/neuter. Dr. Paulsen kept insisting that I should get them declawed with his laser treatment. I refused twice and he still pushed for his service. Then for my vaccine booster shot, he injected a couple additional shots that I specifically did not want and charged me full price. Quickly switched to a different vet and realized he was not doing anything correctly (i.e.) never took temperature, did not take weight, did not provide vaccination certificates. His practice is not just bad, it's unethical. Read Less
