I was pretty surprised by what I walked into when I visited the clinic on Friday. Before anyone looked at my dog I was brought an plan of action . I was very confused by this because we weren't certain what was wrong with her and without seeing her they couldn't have either. After we questioned the action plan we were brought a new quote that moved from $250-$600 (again before anyone put their eyes on her). We overheard people in the other room speaking very loudly about how they hadn't had a Saturday off in months. We agreed to let them look at her and as she being carried off to a room that we weren't allowed to go into I noticed the employee shaking her head. I only assumed this is because we asked that they start with an x ray vs doing the whole $600 quote( again this is only for a diagnoses not treatment included) . At that point we had them return our dog so that we could take her elsewhere. And I am very glad that we did. My dog was diagnosed with Pyometra and received antibiotics to hold her over until her surgery this morning. Her surgery went well and she is coming home this evening. The total was around $500. My senior aged Rottweiler was showing me signs that she was not feeling well at all. I could not get Kacie up and moving on her own. I decided to make a change in vet clinics and take her to Dr. Harrer. I was extremely impressed with the thorough examination! For once I felt like my vet actually cared and wanted to help Kaice Girl. I was not just another number. Dr. Harrer found 4 issues that we were unaware of. I have NEVER had a vet call me to follow-up to see how my pet is feeling. We received at least 3 calls. 2 weeks later Kacie is feeling back to her old self, playing in the yard with 2x4's. The best and most compassionate care I have ever seen in all my years owning Persian Cats (since 1992). They even do stem cell storage... wow cutting edge stuff. I am so very impressed with the quality of the staff. The compassion, sweetness and professionalism they have is absolutely wonderful. I am extremely moved by the compassionate medicine these three doctors bring to the World. Thank God I found them. I am comfortable with any three of these critter healers (Dr. harrer, Dr. Westergaard and Dr. Walters) with Shadow. I feel so at ease when I bring my boy in every time. I am also on their amazing Platinum Wellness Program for optimum prevention. It is only like 34 bucks a month and I get so much for that. Nothing but the best for my puffy, happy boy, Shadow. He has blossomed into such a handsome and healthy boy now since I rescued him (not a pretty sight when I got him) that I have become inspired to get into Pet Photography. I've been going to Animal Clinc of CB for a few years and have seen Dr. Harrer, Dr. Westergaard, and Dr. Walter. All three are excellent with the animals and in making me feel better about their care. Dr. Harrer and staff significantly helped out our local humane society, MHS, last year when we did not have vet care on site. Then when we had to put down one of our own senior rescue dogs, Jack, a while ago Dr. Westergaard treated Jack and my husband and I with the most utmost respect and even cried along with us when he passed on. Truly touching to both of us and we will never forget how great she was with Jack even up to the end. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone needing excellent veterinary care. Read Less

I took my pet to Dr. Harrer for a second opinion. The dog was very sick having congestive heart failure, and most likely at the end of her life. We questioned our current vets plan, and even though Dr. Harrer is an hour away and knew she would likely never see our pet again, she did a very thorough exam and recommended modifications to her treatment. When I took her to Dr. Harrer, she could barely walk across the floor without fainting. While she will never be back to 100%, in a mater of a week, her quality of life improved dramatically. I have a great deal of confidence in Dr. Harrer and would recommend her and Animal Clinic of Council Bluffs to anyone. If the clinic were closer to my location, I would still be going there. Dr. Harrer and the staff were fantastic with our kittens Utah & Scout. Utah had a very bad broken leg but they took great care of him, the amputation was 3 weeks ago and he's doing better than we ever thought!! The care provided by the staff, fantastic, they came home spoiled from all the love & attention! Dr. Harrer and the other doctors are great, knowledgeable and caring!! Since we started going here, even my parents go there now too. We all live 30 minutes from the clinic but it's worth the drive!! Read Less

Do not count on them being an "emergency" vet, despite what their website says!! I tried calling them last night as my cat was having breathing difficulties-- no answer. Tried calling again-- no answer. Left a message, but still no return call as I tried searching for another "emergency" vet. I found one in Omaha, which was quite a drive for me. As soon as I got all the way out there, he went in to cardiac arrest and died. Perhaps if I hadnt wasted so damn much time trying to get ahold of this "emergency" vet, I could have gotten him there sooner, before he went into cardiac arrest, and they could have saved him. He had fluid in his lungs and they couldnt do anything for that once he went into cardiac arrest. They finally returned my call 4-5 hours later, as they got there to open at their regularly scheduled time. DO NOT ADVERTISE YOURSELF AS EMERGENCY IF YOU ARE NOT AN EMERGENCY CLINIC!!! TIME WAS OF THE ESSENCE FOR MY LITTLE FRIEND AND YOU WASTED TOO MUCH OF IT WITH YOUR FALSE ADVERTISING!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! Read Less

I love Dr. Harrer and her staff. They have always taken the time to answer my questions and spent the needed time with my pets. Do not go to this clinic. I took my cat in there July 2010 and all that Dr. Harrer could say was my cat was too fat. She is the worst vet I have ever dealt with. She made her vet technicians do all of the work. She has NO COMPASSION, NONE!!! All she is in the business for is money. She didn't CARE about my cat. He had rapid breathing, was diabetic, and also had a thyroid problem of which I was unaware of til he got detrimentally ill on Aug 11, 2010. All she could recommend was a heartworm test and feline leukemia/aids test. Well, he did not have feline leukemia/aids, because I had him tested in Feb 2010. She does not know her job and should not have a veterinarian license - she was not impressive with her skills. I could do a better job than what she did and of course, I am not a vet. Just a great observer!!! My cat passed away on Aug 19, 2010. He got very sick on Aug 11, 2010 and we had taken him to a different vet. He didn't even make it to his 3rd birthday. I would definitely NOT go to her clinic. I would recommend Valley View Vet Clinic. Dr. Harrer needs to go back to vet school for 8 more years. Not one bit ashamed to say it. It is true that this clinic does cost more than most of the clinics in town, but it's because of the level of care this clinic gives. Dr. Harrer and her staff do not practice OLD, FORGOTTEN medicine. They are a fresh set of hands when it comes to their treatments. She doesn't just give your pet an injection of steroids and send you on your way because it's CHEAP and QUICK. But you would never know any different because your Vet doesn't inform you of the other options there are. Her staff has the information/knowledge to show you how spending the money to prevent things is MUCH better than spending the money to fix the problem. And that pumping your pet full of steroids isn't needed just because the pet has seasonal allergies, which is what my old Vet did! I have gone to two other Vet clinics in this town and have had family in this town since CBs early days so I'm not just some idiot running my mouth that’s never been to another clinic! I've also lived in three other cities and I can tell you that Dr. Harrers practice is as up-to-date as large practices in major US cities. If you only care about who's the cheapest in town, this is not the clinic for you. BUT if you truly care and love your pet and want only the best for them then this IS the clinic for you!! I cannot tell you how Dr. Harrer has opened my eyes since coming to her. Her and her entire staff knows my pets and me by name, which NEVER happened at either of my old Vets! They never rush me in or out of the office and always ask how I'm doing, not just how are my pets! I had a bad experience their also. Dr. Harrer didn't seem like she treated her staff very well since I saw her yell at a couple of them in front of quite a few clients. If she needed to yell at them she could of taken them to the back. She also didnt treat me as a customer very well either. It was like she wanted my money and wanted me out of there.
