History
Established in 2014.
Dr. Spencer grew up in Bettendorf, IA. After graduating from Bettendorf High School, she attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University.
She moved to Schaumburg, IL in 2001 and practiced Veterinary Medicine at a small animal hospital near Chicago. Dr. Spencer, now Dr. Spencer-McShane, moved back to the Quad-City area to be closer to her family where she worked at Abel Keppy Veterinary clinic. Dr. Spencer took some time off from Veterinary work after her son Liam was born in 2011.
After a few months, Dr. Spencer worked as a relief Vet for many clinics in the Quad Cities, from the Animal Emergency Center to clinics at Muscatine, DeWitt, Milan and Rock Island. Dr. Spencer also helped out the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, where she performed low cost Spays and Neuters on animals ready for adoption. Before opening Care Animal Center, she starting teaching a Veterinary Tech class at Black Hawk College. Being passionate about helping the community, she continues to teach this class.
She resides in Bettendorf with her husband, Paul, daughters, Genevieve and Isabella, and her son Liam plus two dogs, one cat and three goldfish. Dr. Spencer-McShane specializes primarily in small animals; rabbits, ferrets, and various rodents. She has a love for surgery and uses ultrasound and digital X-Ray as her diagnostic tools. She improves her skills through continuing education which is paramount to her success in providing care for her patients.

The Vet Techs and Receptionists are wonderful. They are knowledgeable and compassionate. Dr. Spencer and Dr. Trommer could not be more wonderful or caring. They spend ample time with our dogs and answer all of our questions. When we leave we know our dogs have received the best care possible. We are extremely happy with Care Animal Center.

Unlike other comments here, I do not find this vet affordable. Each visit cost in excess of $200. Good vet care but if your budget is slim... May want to keep looking.

After much debating, making phone calls, and finding what's best for the cat, we decided to go with Care Animal Center after a co worker recommended them. I was skeptical about declawing my cat since she was a couple of years old, and I didn't want her to be in pain, however, the day after we picked her up (we also had her spayed), she was playing and jumping around. We were more nervous about her stitches in her stomach then her paws since she jumped around so much! We did the laser removal for her paws, as well as her spay, and her paws didn't bleed, and bandages were not necessary. They provided medicine and answered our panicked phone calls since we didn't know if it was safe for our cat to play around so much.
Details about the location: Very clean establishment. It doesn't smell like 'wet dog' or other funky animal smells. The floors seemed well maintained and the staff was professional, as well as understanding since we were leaving our baby there. When other animals were there, they remembered their names and treated them with much love and respect, which calmed my nerves immensely.
I will recommend them in a heart beat, especially for laser removal for cat claws.

This was a terrible experience. Wanted us to wait in the parking lot and wait for 2 hours. When we had a appointment! because we have a rescued bull dog. The young lady was rude and she shouldnt be working with the public or animals for that matter! I dont suggest anyone to take there animals here!

After much debating, making phone calls, and finding what's best for the cat, we decided to go with Care Animal Center after a co worker recommended them.
