All-Pets Hospital has a long history of serving the needs of Des Moines pet families!
Dr. Rusty Faulkner first opened All-Pets on NE 14th Street in Des Moines in 1957. Back then, only 3 other veterinarians in Iowa served only dogs and cats. In 1991, Dr. Kathy Berge bought All-Pets Hospital & practiced on NE 14th for ten years. In December 2001, Dr. Berge purchased the former Animal Emergency clinic building at 1330 Second Ave. Now, we are better serving down town Des Moines with our newly added East Village clinic on East 6th St. and Walnut!
Currently we see clients for a large variety of services Internal Medicine
At All-Pets Hospital we treat many routine medical conditions that can impact your pet's health and well-being. From simple stomach upset to complicated illness, we strive to quickly diagnose and treat your pet's specific condition while causing minimal stress to you and your pet. This is why we utilize our in-house laboratory and radiology in conjunction with outside resources such as Antech Diagnostics and Iowa State University's pathology department. Dr. Berge is very interested in internal medicine and the complicated biological processes that keep your pet healthy.
Surgery and Pain Management
All-Pets Hospital has an up-to-date surgical suite available for our patients. Patients are continually monitored during surgery with high tech equipment such as a pulse oximeter and a doppler blood pressure monitor. Most importantly, our highly trained staff observe patients closely before, during, and after surgical procedures. Common soft tissue surgeries include:
Ovariohysterectomy (spay)
Castration (neuter)
Declawing and tendonectomy (cats)
Tumor removals
Caesarian Sections
Cystotomy (bladder surgery)
All-Pets Hospital is committed to ensuring patient’s pain levels are kept under control. Pain management treatments offered at All-Pets Hospital include pain patches, oral and injectable medications, and local anesthetic blocks.
We treat our patients with the same care and compassion as we do our own pets, and will work hard to eliminate the pain and stress associated with anesthetic procedures.
Dentistry
Every pet needs a yearly dental exam as part of the comprehensive physical exam. The doctor will carefully examine your pets teeth and gums to determine if a dental cleaning is necessary. If left untreated, periodontal disease will not only lead to tooth loss, oral pain and bad breath, but is directly linked to liver, heart, and kidney disease.
Should your pet have signs of tartar, gingivitis or other oral disease, the doctor will recommend a dental cleaning. Dentals are routinely performed on an out-patient basis with the pet undergoing general anesthesia. Each tooth is individually evaluated, scaled and polished using hand and ultrasonic scaling methods. When necessary infected or broken teeth are surgically extracted and the patient is treated medically with pain relievers and antibiotics.
Radiology
All-Pets Hospital has an on site radiology suite to offer our patients OFA screening, barium studies and many other diagnostic radiographic evaluations. Radiology is a useful tool in aiding the doctor and staff at All-Pets Hospital in creating a treatment plan specifically designed for your pet.
Boarding and Grooming
All-Pets Hospital offers a full service boarding facility, and our excellent groomer has over 15 years of experience. New boarding and grooming patients are always welcome. Our competent staff is available during business hours to take reservations or answer any questions about boarding and grooming.
Reproduction
Dr. Berge possesses a strong interest in reproductive medicine through her interest in breeding and showing AKC Bernese Mountain Dogs. Reproductive services Dr. Berge provides include artificial insemination, breeding timing, pregnancy diagnosis, and delivery monitoring. We highly recommend the Whelp Wise® uterine monitoring device during delivery.
Behavior
At All-Pets Hospital, we understand the importance of the relationship between animal behavior and human companionship, and strive to provide our clients with up to date information in this field. Dr. Berge has a strong interest in canine behavior and training, with over 20 years of experience in dog training and showing. Behavioral consultations are available by appointment.
Dermatology
Skin diseases affect nearly every pet during his or her lifetime. For many the problems may be chronic and recurring, leaving your pet miserable. Does your pet suffer from itchy skin, ear infections, hair loss, dry skin or hives? If you answered yes to any of these, then allergies may be to blame. While there are no cures for allergies, rest assured we can help your pet.
Exotics
All-Pets Hospital stays true to it's name by offering medical and surgical care to a number of species. We see rodents, reptiles, birds, rabbits, marsupials, and amphibians. Our compounding pharmacy allows us to flavor medications into very small concentrations needed by some of our smaller patients. Common exotic procedures include:
Neutering of rats, rabbits, and mice
Tumor removal and other minor surgeries
Vaccinations
Microchipping

We LOVE All Pets Hospital. We've been bringing our Mini Aussie there since she was a new puppy and they are so great with her. They always remember her/us when we call or come in. Our pup is always happy and excited to be there when we walk in the door and you can tell Dr. Burge, Dr. Larson and the whole staff really care about her and her health. She was also groomed there for the first time today and I would HIGHLY recommend getting grooming done here. Our girl came back looking amazing and SO happy. The woman who groomed her even came out to talk with me when I picked her up just to tell me how great our dog did and how much she enjoyed her. 10/10 would recommend APH!

When I first got my dogs, I was new to the area and needed a local veterinarian. I decided All-Pets Hospital was a good place to start as it was close to my home. The first visit alone made up my mind that this is where I will always being my pets. Dr Berge was absolutely great with both my dogs, but also with me and my wife. She is very compassionate and genuine as she treats the animals. From the first time I took my dogs there until their final day we were always greeted with a friendly smile knowing we were in good hands. Thank you to Dr Berge and her team for always taking such good care of Edison & Einstein, Adria and I.

We have been coming here at least 8 years if not longer, and we love the doctors for sure, but Rachel the vet tech is the main reason we come back time and time again. She is the absolute best person you'd ever want helping with your pets. She is so patient and kind, answers all of our questions in a way we can understand, has done everything from cuddle our new puppy to holding our old boy when we found out he had cancer. I love All-Pets most for knowing a good thing in her. Everyone is great but she is the best.

Lamp The Cat had a bladder inflammation problem and needed a new vet pronto! We met Dr. Berge the same day I called and she was absolutely fabulous: her explanations were super clear and no-nonsense. Cost was a concern for me, and cat needed a urinalysis. Creative Dr. Berge was able to siphon the tiniest of cat carrier accidents and saved me the cost of having to board Cat until she could produce a sample. She was also very clear with dietary changes that needed to be made to prevent flare ups, and (after some whining) Lamp has gotten used to her new food and is happy and healthy again! We've found our new forever vet and will be back in about a week for vaccinations!
P.S.
There's even a little hidey hole under the sink for nervous patients!

Also, they text alert reminders which is a huge plus for absent minded people like myself. Will never take Milo anywhere else!

I just moved into the area and was excited to find a vet clinic so close to my new home. I went in to get a quote before I brought my cat over and they were very helpful in getting me all the information I needed. When I brought my cat in, we were seen exactly at our time, the vet was caring and fantastic, and the overall atmosphere was great.

I recently visited All Pets last week for my 6.5 year old cat's annual exam and vaccinations. I'm new to the area and was looking for a healthcare place where people genuinely care about animals. Dr. Berge really spent time examining my pet, and explaining her recommendations and my cat's overall health to me. Even discussing his diet because he's a bit on the chubby side.I really appreciate how patient she was and can tell she loves animals. So I brought my cat back the following week for a dental cleaning (which I knew he needed from last year's exam recommendations). He returned home and is happily eating and playing. His pearly whites are so lovely!I'm so glad I found a doctor who truly loves animals. The prices are very reasonable, and I will be coming back again next year! I definitely recommend!!!

We really like All Pets. They charge us half as much as our previous vet, and they don't recommend costly unnecessary tests and extras. We really like dr. All-Pets is a great vet! I have taken my dog there the past few years and each time has been a positive experience - for me and my dog. The staff is caring and explains everything and answers all questions. You can tell they really care about your family member! Before any procedure they give a quote to make sure there are no surprises come payment time. I've had them do a neuter, teeth cleaning, x-rays, vaccines, blood work, and general check-ups. All of it has been great and my dog is healthy as ever! I cannot recommend them enough. They have two locations - on 2nd Avenue and in the East Village.

Amazing is the word to describe the vets and staff at All Pets. I have taken my cats, dogs and parrot there for over 15 years. You get "above and beyond" service with this team. They take the extra time to talk to you, explain treatment, and help with behavioral problems. Dr. Kathy Berge also works with birds and it is difficult to find care for parrots in some areas. We have gone through puppy visits, neutering, minor surgery, wellness checks, and even euthanasia over the years and their service has always been professional with a lot of extra care. When you have pets, its about the humans as much as the animals and the staff here understand the human needs too. I would highly recommend them if you are in need of lifelong care for your pet.

I've taken my horrible but much-loved cat in twice. I had concerns and had convinced myself that he was dying of cancer. The vet techs and veterinarians at All Pets gave him a thorough but gentle check-up the first time and didn't freak him out. Then I took him back a second time for dental cleaning. They were friendly and professional and took good care of my cat. They put up with me calling in to check on him and when I got there and realized how aggressive he'd been, they had a good laugh about it rather than seeming mad or put out. Everyone I've dealt with has given me the vibe that they are true animal lovers. They know what they're doing and they don't overcharge. In fact, in comparison to other vets the cat and I have been to, they are beyond reasonable.I don't think you'll be disappointed. They're friendly, professional, and know what they're doing. If they can deal with my cat, they can deal with any little furry thing.

Dr. Rusty Faulkner first opened All-Pets on NE 14th Street in Des Moines in 1957. Back then, only 3 other veterinarians in Iowa served only dogs and cats. In 1991, Dr. Kathy Berge bought All-Pets Hospital & practiced on NE 14th for ten years. In December 2001, Dr. Berge purchased the former Animal Emergency clinic building at 1330 Second Ave. Now, we are better serving down town Des Moines with our newly added East Village clinic on East 6th St. and Walnut!

At All-Pets Hospital we treat many routine medical conditions that can impact your pet's health and well-being. From simple stomach upset to complicated illness, we strive to quickly diagnose and treat your pet's specific condition while causing minimal stress to you and your pet. This is why we utilize our in-house laboratory and radiology in conjunction with outside resources such as Antech Diagnostics and Iowa State University's pathology department. Dr. Berge is very interested in internal medicine and the complicated biological processes that keep your pet healthy.
Surgery and Pain Management
All-Pets Hospital has an up-to-date surgical suite available for our patients. Patients are continually monitored during surgery with high tech equipment such as a pulse oximeter and a doppler blood pressure monitor. Most importantly, our highly trained staff observe patients closely before, during, and after surgical procedures. Common soft tissue surgeries include:

All-Pets Hospital is committed to ensuring patient’s pain levels are kept under control. Pain management treatments offered at All-Pets Hospital include pain patches, oral and injectable medications, and local anesthetic blocks.
We treat our patients with the same care and compassion as we do our own pets, and will work hard to eliminate the pain and stress associated with anesthetic procedures.
Dentistry
Every pet needs a yearly dental exam as part of the comprehensive physical exam. The doctor will carefully examine your pets teeth and gums to determine if a dental cleaning is necessary. If left untreated, periodontal disease will not only lead to tooth loss, oral pain and bad breath, but is directly linked to liver, heart, and kidney disease.
Should your pet have signs of tartar, gingivitis or other oral disease, the doctor will recommend a dental cleaning. Dentals are routinely performed on an out-patient basis with the pet undergoing general anesthesia. Each tooth is individually evaluated, scaled and polished using hand and ultrasonic scaling methods. We LOVE All Pets Hospital. We've been bringing our Mini Aussie there since she was a new puppy and they are so great with her. They always remember her/us when we call or come in. Our pup is always happy and excited to be there when we walk in the door and you can tell Dr. Burge, Dr. Larson and the whole staff really care about her and her health. She was also groomed there for the first time today and I would HIGHLY recommend getting grooming done here. Our girl came back looking amazing and SO happy. The woman who groomed her even came out to talk with me when I picked her up just to tell me how great our dog did and how much she enjoyed her. 10/10 would recommend APH!

When I first got my dogs, I was new to the area and needed a local veterinarian. I decided All-Pets Hospital was a good place to start as it was close to my home. The first visit alone made up my mind that this is where I will always being my pets. Dr Berge was absolutely great with both my dogs, but also with me and my wife. She is very compassionate and genuine as she treats the animals. From the first time I took my dogs there until their final day we were always greeted with a friendly smile knowing we were in good hands. We have been coming here at least 8 years if not longer, and we love the doctors for sure, but Rachel the vet tech is the main reason we come back time and time again. She is the absolute best person you'd ever want helping with your pets. She is so patient and kind, answers all of our questions in a way we can understand, has done everything from cuddle our new puppy to holding our old boy when we found out he had cancer. I love All-Pets most for knowing a good thing in her. Everyone is great but she is the best.

Lamp The Cat had a bladder inflammation problem and needed a new vet pronto! We met Dr. Berge the same day I called and she was absolutely fabulous: her explanations were super clear and no-nonsense. Cost was a concern for me, and cat needed a urinalysis. Creative Dr. Berge was able to siphon the tiniest of cat carrier accidents and saved me the cost of having to board Cat until she could produce a sample. She was also very clear with dietary changes that needed to be made to prevent flare ups, and (after some whining) Lamp has gotten used to her new food and is happy and healthy again! We've found our new forever vet and will be back in about a week for vaccinations!
P.S.
There's even a little hidey hole under the sink for nervous patients!

I recently visited All Pets last week for my 6.5 year old cat's annual exam and vaccinations. I'm new to the area and was looking for a healthcare place where people genuinely care about animals. Dr. Berge really spent time examining my pet, and explaining her recommendations and my cat's overall health to me. Even discussing his diet because he's a bit on the chubby side.I really appreciate how patient she was and can tell she loves animals. So I brought my cat back the following week for a dental cleaning (which I knew he needed from last year's exam recommendations). He returned home and is happily eating and playing. His pearly whites are so lovely!I'm so glad I found a doctor who truly loves animals. The prices are very reasonable, and I will be coming back again next year! I definitely recommend!!!

All-Pets is a great vet! I have taken my dog there the past few years and each time has been a positive experience - for me and my dog. The staff is caring and explains everything and answers all questions. You can tell they really care about your family member! Before any procedure they give a quote to make sure there are no surprises come payment time. I've had them do a neuter, teeth cleaning, x-rays, vaccines, blood work, and general check-ups. All of it has been great and my dog is healthy as ever! I cannot recommend them enough. They have two locations - on 2nd Avenue and in the East Village.

Amazing is the word to describe the vets and staff at All Pets. I have taken my cats, dogs and parrot there for over 15 years. You get "above and beyond" service with this team. They take the extra time to talk to you, explain treatment, and help with behavioral problems. Dr. Kathy Berge also works with birds and it is difficult to find care for parrots in some areas. We have gone through puppy visits, neutering, minor surgery, wellness checks, and even euthanasia over the years and their service has always been professional with a lot of extra care. When you have pets, its about the humans as much as the animals and the staff here understand the human needs too. I would highly recommend them if you are in need of lifelong care for your pet.

I've taken my horrible but much-loved cat in twice. I had concerns and had convinced myself that he was dying of cancer. The vet techs and veterinarians at All Pets gave him a thorough but gentle check-up the first time and didn't freak him out. Then I took him back a second time for dental cleaning. They were friendly and professional and took good care of my cat. They put up with me calling in to check on him and when I got there and realized how aggressive he'd been, they had a good laugh about it rather than seeming mad or put out. Everyone I've dealt with has given me the vibe that they are true animal lovers. They know what they're doing and they don't overcharge. In fact, in comparison to other vets the cat and I have been to, they are beyond reasonable.I don't think you'll be disappointed. They're friendly, professional, and know what they're doing. If they can deal with my cat, they can deal with any little furry thing.
