Heartland takes care of my ferrets, but until now I had not taken my pups....it is a drive for us. I have never had an experience like I had today. The entire staff is beyond amazing!!! This place is AMAZING. From the front desk staff, to the vet assistants, and vets..... they are all phenomenal. I love taking Moose to this place. I have moved states many times so I've been to many vets, but Heartland is BY FAR the best. We we're in search of clinic after our Vet retired. Based on my research and recommendations from neighbors we chose Heartland. Yesterday my little Doxie had been throwing up. While waiting the little stinker peed on the floor. As a "Why not?" I asked if they could run a sample. Glad I did, he had crystals in his urine and his ph was high. I have been taking my dogs to Heartland Animal Hospital for over 12 years now and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. The hours of the clinic are flexible - evening and weekend - and if there is an urgent issue I've always been accommodated even if the schedule is full. It is clear that all the staff care for both the pets and their owners. I've never felt rushed and have been able to ask all the questions I want/need to. I never write reviews but Heartland is exceptional so here we go! I've been going to them since I moved to Des Moines 5 years ago. My husband and I have 3 miniature aussies and a bunny. Staff is kind, smart, consistent, and they use evidence based practice. They offer wellness plans to make care inclusive and affordable. Other great things: Cleanliness, prompt care, they send reminders, they call to check in after a surgery/illness, they advocate for best practice but aren't ...overbearing or pushy, and unlike many vets they aren't tied to a contact with just one product company but offer products according to safety/effectiveness/cost. Overall, they are genuinely caring about animals and their wellbeing as well as the families they live in. Choices such as if/when to neuter, to start puppy classes, or remove some cat claws are presented with all the information (pros & cons) but still as a choice, without judgement. Three examples of superior care: 1. When our first pup was just over a year old he was attacked at the dog park and sustained a herniated bowel. They saw him immediately, performed diagnostics and started to operate. They recognized the extent of injury and their limitations and knew to refer us to the emergency vet for further surgical intervention. Teddy is a happy healthy boy since. 2. My bunny once aspirated a piece of food and was on a quick decline. They moved quickly to diagnose and start antibiotics. Charlie is a healthy happy bunny to this day. I never needed appointments for any urgent situation. 3. Last week, Servo, our 6 month pup might have had a mild reaction to his recent vaccine and they made sure to report it to the maker and I am now being refunded for diagnostics and meds. Only drawback is it can feel expensive at times, but I do NOT think the services are overpriced..., I just have 3 dogs. I am extremely pleased with my vet clinic. Even referred family there. One last thing!!! I actually shadowed the techs and vets there a few years ago when I considered vet school. I can say with complete confidence that the staff is equally professional and caring behind closed doors as when they are in the room with you. There's a clean/sterile vibe behind closed doors also. Dr.Culver is the most highly skilled and compassionate vet. I have had the privilege to meet , I have had many pets from dogs, cats, horses . I wish I would have found him sooner. I called on a Saturday late morning with an emergency for my car that had an injury to back leg. They were willing to see him immediately and never seemed rushed .I know they stayed late to help me and never seemed like they were rushing me out the door .they were all very caring and compassionate towards me and my pet. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone I know .By far the best veterinarian I have ever had .I will be taking all current future pets to Dr Culver for a healthcare needs .Thank you for making my experience so caring and inviting. The doctors and staff at Heartland Animal Hospital are absolutely amazing. They are a rare breed - guided by the love of their animal patients, not by profit. We took our three kitties there for years, until the kitties eventually passed away. Dr Prescott is extremely thorough and cares deeply for the animals in her care. She gives good, practical advice and goes above and beyond for her patients. She is also one of the kindest people I have ever met. This is the best vet health clinic I have ever worked with. They are caring, sensitive and reasonable in their approaches. I could not recommend them more highly and will never go anywhere else as long as I'm in the Des Moines area. They came highly recommended and they live up to their reputation. My last incident with my one of my dogs happened on Sunday evening. I called and left a message and they returned my call immediately on Monday morning and got him in that day. I never knew a vet clinic could be so great until I came here. They've been taking care of my cats for 4 years now and couldn't be happier with my experience. The entire staff seems like they genuinely care about your pet and you. I found a lump on my cat's stomach and they got us in that evening to check it out. They gave an accurate quote for cost for the surgery, which was scheduled within 3 days of the initial appointment, and have done everything possible to reduce the costs of all the follow up care. Every time we've had questions or concerns about how the incision was healing, they got us in right away to check it out and Dr. Edel personally called us with results and to check in. We've been taking our dogs to Heartland since 2007 and wouldn't ever think of going anywhere else. Our previous dog was a bit high maintenance with allergies and issues with swallowing things so we made many visits. We always felt we were receiving the best care possible.
