Dr. Dennis is a great vet and wonderful human being. He takes his time with you and your animals, and does so in a kind, dignified and professional manner. As a veterinary general practitioner and diagnostician, he will do his best to keep your pets healthy and happy, and what he is not able to perform in his practice in terms of specialty treatment, he will advise you of your options for referral treatment. Again, all this takes time, and Dr. Dennis is patient in knowledgeably making sure you understand the medical science behind your pet's condition and the important health decisions you can make to keep them as healthy as possible. No one can ask more from a professionalism than that. Just recently, in fact, I would say Dr. Dennis was responsible for saving the life of our Smooth Fox Terrier Nora. We brought her in to his office (past his office hours I might add, but he kindly accommodated us). Nora is rather old (15+), had been vomitous and diarrheal, hadn’t eaten for four days, and was severely dehydrated because she wouldn’t drink either. We expected the worst. Fortunately, however, Dr. Dennis assessed her situation quickly through lab work, and advised us that one option was to take her for overnight care at a veterinary hospital so that IV's could be administered to counteract her life-threatening dehydration. Of course, given her age, and seriously weak and tenuous condition, euthanasia was also a real possibility, but, as a professional, he did not sway us in one direction or another; it was our decision. Long story short, Nora was eating and drinking again a day later after her one-night stay in hospital, and after being treated for a rampant bacterial infection, it appears she is making a steady recovery. Dr. Dennis took great care of my Yorkie. Safely removed all of her teeth and prepped me for all potential concerns. He took the time to answer any and all questions of mine- and was able to get Hanna in quickly (with concerns of her refusing food due to dental pain). We appreciated it! I'm kind of amazed that there's less than a 5 star review with this place. This vet has time and time again went very far out of his way to make sure our pets are healthy. He is very knowledgeable and intuitive. I can't say enough good things about this vet. We have used him with a variety of animals and we get nothing but the best care. Dr. Dennis and his office have been very good to us. We adopted a dog a month ago and he's been ill since we got him. We've made several visits in the month that we've had him and with Dr. Dennis' help think we finally have figured out what's been going on with our dog. They've been very patient and helpful and have gotten us in last minute a couple times now and were patient with us when we were late for an appointment on a Saturday when we had to turn around and go back home to get a forgotten stool sample. He answers all my questions with great information and patience. He doesn't rush and he listens to all my concerns. He also gives really great pet parenting advice. Prices are very reasonable. I am glad we decided on Animal Haven for our doggy's care. Having Saturday hours is so, so, so super helpful and it's conveniently right off the interstate and super easy to get to it. Read Less

I drive 45 minutes just to go to Dr. Dennis. Past many other vets offices. He treats my animals as his own, many times when I am in the Office or over the phone, he will say "if she were my dog, this is what I would do..." Will always continue to to bring my animals to Dr. Dennis. Read Less

Over the years we have taken dozens of our foster dogs to have their pre-adoption vet work (including spay and neuter, vaccines, checkup etc) done with Dr. Dennis and he has always done great work. Now that we also have one of our own, we take him to Hills Animal Haven as well. He and his staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and it's worth the drive out from Iowa City. Read Less

I came to Dr. Dennis on the recommendation of one of my friends, who said he was excellent with animals. While Dr. Dennis was good with my animals, he was completely irresponsible as a professional. He wouldn't keep appointments, show up on time, return calls, or send critical medication. He's reasonable in price and handles dogs well, but he fails to do his job time and time again. After years of frustration, I finally transferred my animals' records. I regret every going to him. Read Less

Mark is a great veterinarian. He takes his time with your little charges and answers all your questions thoroughly. He doesn't push unnecessary tests or expensive products. He's a pragmatist, with a big heart. The place is currently in an office building (due to the unfortunate fire) and it's a bit cramped but they are expanding soon. We've taken two cats to him. He always gets us in quickly. We had to have one cat put down because of leukemia & he gave me as much time as I needed to say good-bye without any pressure to hurry up. He was understanding of how hard it was, & showed me the x-rays and positive FeLV test so I would understand. Neither cat seemed to mind him too much either, so that was a huge plus!Read Less
