Midland Prairie Veterinary Services

Huxley, Iowa
General Info
Known for their attentive approach, Midland Prairie Veterinary Services is a reputed practice in the area. Midland Prairie Veterinary Services Huxley extends adjustable animal care, monitoring linkages between motion and appetite patterns, stress indicators, and environmental shifts across Iowa. An intricate discussion of daily rhythms starts the visit by examining changes in energy levels, eating patterns, social behaviors, sleep quality, and environmental stress. After that, the full body examination continues to joint testing, oral and dermatological health checks before concluding with posture review. The vet then assesses the animal’s reaction to touch and pressure to check if there is any discomfort or restriction in movement. Historical data examination identifies patterns indicative of potential metabolic changes, musculoskeletal stress, or behavioral adjustments. Midland Prairie Veterinary Services also provides diagnostic screenings, vaccination programs, blood tests, fecal tests, and nutritional consults alongside pain management plans. The timing of visits also coincides with regional weather patterns, such as allergies in spring, parasite prevention in summer and arthritis in colder months. Animals that are naturally anxious or have chronic health problems should from time to time, undergo milestone examinations for observational purposes. Pet owners also receive detailed habit logs, follow-up care intervals, and check-in options in the personal app, which serves as a go-to resource for pet information. Those who care for senior pets or multiple pets in the same household can request telehealth programs and behavior-linked recheck plans to ensure manageable routines. Through systematic observation and seasonal concordance, Huxley pet owners and those throughout Iowa are given the tools to foresee needs and implement appropriate measures, transforming veterinarian visits into a routine of consistent care. The practice offers services such as Livestock/Farm Animal Care, Grooming, Orthopedic Surgery, and Dental and Pocket Pet Care. These services cater to all phases of a pet’s life, from routine wellness to more sophisticated medical interventions. Pet owners value the team’s expertise and the way they compassionately communicate medical information. Whether it is senior pet care or urgent health issues, the goal is to establish bonds that go beyond services through consistency and attention. The clinic also plays a crucial role in educating owners and implementing preventive programs. Midland Prairie Veterinary Services's participation in the community supports a strong basis for responsible pet ownership. New and returning clients often comment on the friendly nature of the veterinary practice, which has kept pace in terms of service levels.

Great experience! Our dog had developed a really badly abscessed tooth and they got him in right away! The price was amazing! We were saving to have his teeth taken care of by a vet in Ankeny but moved to Huxley in the meantime. Ankeny vet wanted $1000+ for the same work that Dr. May did for a fraction of that. They even clipped his nails without us requesting it. My wife and I both could tell that Dr. May CARES about his patients and their owners! He has found a patient for life! Read Less

Really bummed because this vet would have been real convenient for me to go to. I called the office to see about getting my dog neutered. We'd previously gone to a cheap vet in Des Moines to get our puppies vaccinations. We needed to get him neutered and because the vet we took him to previously does cheap vaccinations, he was booked too far out so we thought we'd take him to a regular vet clinic. The receptionist here was very rude. She sighed after every questioned I answered. She questioned why I wouldn't take my dog to the vaccination vet to get neutered. Sighed some more. Then she said she'd have to call that vet to get his records. I have his records but she wanted actual notes. He only went there to be vaccinated. She just sounded so exasperated to have a new client that I decided that it was probably best to find someone else to care for my dog. Read Less

We have gone to the Ballard Vet Clinic for years, ever since Dr. May took over the practice. I could not be happier with the service. After reading other reviews, I am rather confused as to other people's experiences. Mary has always been overly friendly and helpful to both my husband and myself, regardless if I am bringing in our dog or cats for a routine visit, stopping in for flea meds, or calling to inquire about when pets are due for annual visits. Dr. May is a great vet and has an obvious love and care for animals. When my first cat was not acting right, I called the clinic to find it was closed. The after hours voicemail offers Dr. May's personal cell phone, so I was able to text and call him. He even asked me to send him a video of what my cat was doing and was then able to refer me to a 24-hour clinic once we determined that there was a somewhat serious issue happening. Prices are very comparable to any other vet in the area and I have found are even quite a bit less expensive than other Iowa vets after speaking with friends in the Carroll, IA area. Highly recommend! Read Less
