the front desk assistants are horrible
we had a 14 year old lab that had been throwing up and diarrhea so we brought her in to have her looked at. this is the first time we have used this vet clinic normal vet is in maxwell and was to far for our lab to travel in the condition she was in we had just moved to indianola in Nov I carried her in and they did xrays and gave her meds to help with nausea and diarrhea. the bill came out to 500$ I was more than happy to pay this if it got my girl to feel better. didn’t blink an eye on the bill. that night she got worse and my wife and I decide to have her put down tomorrow afternoon to ease her suffering we called to let them know we were going to come in and have our lab put to sleep. I talked with them about cremation and getting a private cremation and foot print. was fine with the 400$ bill and said that we would be paying by cash. we arrived at 2pm again I called and let them know we were there and they again went thru what I wanted for her and said I’d be paying with cash. I wrapped our lab in a blanket and carried her in to one of the front rooms. my wife and I were both distraught with having to put down our dog we have no kids and have had several miscarriages so our dogs are our kids. heres where it was the most disrespectful unprofessional lack of common decency I have experienced one of the front desk ladies came in and was talking to us she had no idea what we had done or that I had talked to any of the other front desk ladies All she was interested in was how we were going to pay we are at the point of losing our dog and all she can ask is how we were going to pay for the service it was the most disrespectful time I have ever dealt with somebody I’ve had dogs put down before and the vet had enough common decency to not even worry about billing us then and just to send the bill later I mean come on have at least common decency to realize that both I and my wife were distraught crying about to have our dog put down and all you can worry about is a $400 bill after the day before I had just dropped $500 on a bill for her you have my dogs ashes are you that worried about money that all you can think of is well they have to pay for the service beforehand I understand if if the service is a routine health check vaccinations and that sort but we were having our dog put down but when you were putting a dog down that is one of the toughest heartbreaking moments that you have and then all you have to worry about is that your dog has no longer have any pain not how to figure out how to pay the bill for the cremation and the euthanasia this was the first and last time that I would ever use this vet clinic like I said at the beginning the vet and the vet techs are wonderful people that you can tell that they care about The animals just by soft touching caressing the dogs when you know that they’re sick or they’re hurt but the front office front desk ladies or the people that deal with a billing take your chances with them because they are in my case one of the worst experiences I’ve ever dealt with people of of just lack of common decency and compassion for somebody that’s having their dog put down

Can I do less than stars? I went to IVC for over 20 years. They were fantastic in the beginning. Kind and compassionate. Not so much anymore. My pup had ear surgery several years ago and it was an awful experience. They made me feel stupid and were anything but compassionate to my dog, who by the way is the sweetest. They actually drug him back to the room when I dropped him off of surgery and when he had to stay overnight, I stopped in to see him and they looked at me like I was nuts for wanting to comfort him. Never again will I put my animals through that. It's not just the staff but the Dr's as well.
Additional: Thank You for your call Dr. Brennan but your staff was told of the situation at the time. I ended up having to pay almost an additional $100 to cover anxiety and pain medication for him after I brought him back to have his bandages redone. His head wrap came off and they were pissed at me that I didn't prevent it. Almost a year later his other ear did the same thing, I went to another vet and it cost me a 1/4 of what your clinic and we were both very well cared for.

I would absolutely do negative stars if I could. Called before we came to make sure we could do payments for an emergency situation, told it would be fine. Got there and say for 2 hrs which we totally understood....examined the cat, said yes needs tooth pulled immediately, put him in a cage then told no payments. We'd need $3-400 to pick him up... For a tooth extracting. We explained that we were told we could do payments and he said sorry and have us the cat back..... I get when you work you want paid...and we were putting allot of it down.... All about the money...who cares about the cat in pain.

I have went here for years with my cats and dog. All the veterinarians are professional and very caring. Rates are reasonable and wait times are good too. Just be patient when it is very busy.

Super friendly and really reasonably priced. Even simple rabies shots etc are about $100 cheaper here. Best vet clinic hands down. My friends I have recommended there have said that they have had such good service and also agreed on the prices being much cheaper! It's worth the drive from any metro town to go here!

It's been over a year since my german shepherd passed away. She was sick for about 2 years and had been previously misdiagnosed. Thanks to Dr. Brennan and the staff here, we were able to correctly diagnose our girl and give her a few more good years before she passed away. I've been taking my two new babies to them ever since we got them as well. I've never been disappointed in the care we've recieved, from vaccines to surgeries Thanks for all you do!

I have taken all my animals to them (kitties and dogs) since 2003. The vets and the staff have always been pleasant, helpful and professional. I feel that my animals were important to them and that they were truly concerned with the well being and good health of all my pets. I continue to use Indianola Vet Clinic even though I now live in Des Moines. They have even stayed late to ensure we were helped even though we arrived last minute with a very ill cat. I have also recommended them to friends and family as the clinics fees are normally less than other clinics for the same treatments.

We have been taking our dogs & cats to Indianola Vet Clinic for more than 20 years. Wouldn't think of taking them anywhere else. We've always trusted them with the care of our beloved dogs & cats. We've had from little yorkies to bigger German Shepherds, cats of all sizes, even stray cats that we've rescued & they have always been gentle & thorough with their care, even when they've come to our home to put an ailing animal down. They're the best.

Im rating 5 out of 5 stars, only because 10 out of 5 stars isnt possible. I come from a family of dog lovers, and Ive heard many stories of those who are disappointed with many of the vet clinics in Des Moines. I live in Des Moines and have made the trip to Indianola for 10+ years for a reason. IVC in my opinion has always provided me and my beloved pet top notch care. The staff are always kind and courteous. I cant count the number of times over the years where I didnt have a need to go to the vet and visit unexpectedly and they greeted me and my dog by name even though it had been months since they saw me. Its highly evident the veterinarians at IVC arent there to punch a time clock, its easy to see thier love for animals, and have always gone above and beyond when thoroughly explaining the needs of my dog. Thank you IVC for many years of excellent care.

These guys are great! My dog has had so many issues with his ears over the years and this was the first place that truly cared and took action to help fix the problem! When he had to have surgery, I was impressed with the personalized care and the consistent updates they gave us on our dog's condition! Not only that, but with all of his procedures and medications he needed, they were very reasonably priced!! I won't take my dog anywhere else!! :)

I have went here for years with my cats and dog. All the veterinarians are professional and very caring. Rates are reasonable and wait times are good too. Just be patient when it is very busy.

It's been over a year since my german shepherd passed away. She was sick for about 2 years and had been previously misdiagnosed. Thanks to Dr. Brennan and the staff here, we were able to correctly diagnose our girl and give her a few more good years before she passed away. I've been taking my two new babies to them ever since we got them as well. I've never been disappointed in the care we've recieved, from vaccines to surgeries Thanks for all you do!

I have taken all my animals to them (kitties and dogs) since 2003. The vets and the staff have always been pleasant, helpful and professional. I feel that my animals were important to them and that they were truly concerned with the well being and good health of all my pets. I continue to use Indianola Vet Clinic even though I now live in Des Moines. They have even stayed late to ensure we were helped even though we arrived last minute with a very ill cat. I have also recommended them to friends and family as the clinics fees are normally less than other clinics for the same treatments.

We have been taking our dogs & cats to Indianola Vet Clinic for more than 20 years. Wouldn't think of taking them anywhere else. We've always trusted them with the care of our beloved dogs & cats. We've had from little yorkies to bigger German Shepherds, cats of all sizes, even stray cats that we've rescued & they have always been gentle & thorough with their care, even when they've come to our home to put an ailing animal down. They're the best.

Im rating 5 out of 5 stars, only because 10 out of 5 stars isnt possible. I come from a family of dog lovers, and Ive heard many stories of those who are disappointed with many of the vet clinics in Des Moines. I live in Des Moines and have made the trip to Indianola for 10+ years for a reason. IVC in my opinion has always provided me and my beloved pet top notch care. The staff are always kind and courteous. I cant count the number of times over the years where I didnt have a need to go to the vet and visit unexpectedly and they greeted me and my dog by name even though it had been months since they saw me. Its highly evident the veterinarians at IVC arent there to punch a time clock, its easy to see thier love for animals, and have always gone above and beyond when thoroughly explaining the needs of my dog. Thank you IVC for many years of excellent care.

These guys are great! My dog has had so many issues with his ears over the years and this was the first place that truly cared and took action to help fix the problem! When he had to have surgery, I was impressed with the personalized care and the consistent updates they gave us on our dog's condition! Not only that, but with all of his procedures and medications he needed, they were very reasonably priced!! I won't take my dog anywhere else!! :)
