The vet was great, he listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions as well as handled all of the care for my cat in a very caring manner. Best place to take your cat in the corridor and the only place that will anesthetize a cat for the purposes of shaving, which my Himalayan really appreciates. The doctor isn't very personable, and isn't friendly towards the cat either. There is an extra $45 fee for every visit for a simple examination that you could easily do yourself (weigh the cat, check fur for flees, quick look at gums and teeth, listen to heart etc). Nothing was explained, and shots were given to my cat without asking or explaining. I ended up paying for shots that only an outdoor cat would need. It took several tries and my cat was bleeding after the shots. I switched to Best Friends and had my first visit there today and the difference was night and day, not to mention $45 cheaper for the same service. Read Less

I have had very mixed receptions to my attempt to bottle raise Squirrel, a kitten without a mama and who is now 12 days old. Including other veterinarians who just look at her and me with an expression of "why bother?" We just finished up here and I have never seen my cat so calm around any veterinarian. He usually tries to bite or claw them, but Dr. Hayes was perfect with him. Ok, so the downside of this veterinary clinic is that my cat and I have been completely spoiled in terms of care! I have never had a doctor and staff before or since that was so gentle and attentive with my senior lady. I am so grateful to them especially for the care they took in a completely successful oral surgery. I had just lost my other cat a couple months before the operation, and Dr. Hayes was very understanding of my worries about going into a major treatment so soon with my other cat and took time to reassure me.I wish I could have taken this clinic with me in my move! My kitty is a stress case and is so scared when we go to the vet that I can actually carry him in because he clings to me and isn't remotely contemplating fleeing. I brought him in for digestive issues and Dr. Hayes seems to have a magic touch because my cat was pretty calm and stayed on the exam table, whereas he hides at other clinics. Part of this is due to the dog-free, quiet environment, I'm sure. One thing I truly appreciate about the Cat Clinic compared to a couple of the other well known clinics in town is that Dr. Hayes doesn't pressure me to spend a lot of money or throw surprise upcharges at me for no reason. Don't get me wrong, I would go into serious debt for my cats, but would rather not if I don't have to! For example, when my other cat was vomiting, I took him to another Iowa City clinic and, without explaining the costs or purpose, they ran $600 in tests. My cat was actually better the next morning with ZERO treatment. By contrast, Dr Hayes started with simple steps to rule out food allergies and a couple other holistic causes instead of performing every imaginable test. He also talked through a few possibilities to consider. He also recently performed surgery on another cat I look after and it was very easy and affordable and the elderly kitty did great. He's very kind and straightforward and his office is great at following up to see how the patient is doing. Read Less

The care that they showed our cat in her last few months was truly touching. To give you an idea, after we decided that it was time to put our old girl down, we took her in, and were treated with the utmost of sympathy. The nurse and Doctor were both very somber. It wasn't business as usual. After we took our girl home and buried her, we got a sympathy card, and then they made a donation to the ISU service animal fund in our cats name. We've moved several times since our cat was first diagnosed with epilepsy, so finding a good veterinarian has always been one of the first steps in making a new community our home. I love that despite all the research and notes I had faxed to the clinic, Dr. Hayes was ambitious to reanalyze my cat's condition and make his own holistic recommendations to help decrease her seizure episodes. I took my kitty in because he was itching his ears a lot. The vet seemed like he was annoyed the whole visit and wasn't very friendly. He gave me some medicine and I went home. The medicine wasn't working so I took my kitty back in to the vet. He sent me home with more medicine. After my kitty still wasn't any better, I decided to take him to the Solon Vet Clinic. They were very friendly and helpful. They told me my kitty had a "colony of ear mites". I couldn't believe it. They gave me medicine and my kitty was feeling better after a day. My cat is BEYOND terrified of going to the vet. However, the very capable vet and vet tech were able to quickly burrito wrap my cat and subdue her in order to administer her yearly shots. I found a tiny baby kitten up inside my car one day and immediately fell in love. I had never owned cats before so when I needed somewhere to take him I found the Cat Clinic. When I walked in, it was clean and friendly. They were quick but patient and kind with our little kitten and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr. Hayes was so gentle and answered all my questions. I have been taking my cats to the Cat Clinic for several years now, I love the care my cats receive there. The staff and Doctor Hayes are very gentle and knowledgeable. You can tell they really care about the cats you brin in. I have 6 cats, which is a lot, and they offer half price exams for more then 1 cat. They always can get me right in when it is necessary. I have to drive there from North Liberty and it is totally worth it. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Read Less
