We've been going to Heartland Animal Hospital for over ten years. The staff is helpful and caring. Whenever Dora or Annie has a procedure, they always follow up the next day to make sure everything is okay. They go the extra mile to provide excellent care. My cat is never a big fan of vets. In the past, he has required semi-sedation for basic procedures. Took him here for a bite on his tummy, and he had such a great experience!! I'm pretty sure the gals were cat whisperers, because he purred and generally was happy about the exam! The staff gave us estimates, talked through the best course of action based on our financial needs, and then we got a follow-up phone call the next day to check on him! Our rescue dog has anxiety issues and we've had her at two vets that added to her anxiety. A friend suggested Heartland Animal Hospital and I'm so glad I made the call. The staff is so friendly and they loved on my dog. They did all they could to keep her from having anxiety and they kept us informed on her care. My pets receive wonderful care at Heartland. You can really tell that the staff has a genuine love for animals and they are always very knowledgable and straightforward in their diagnosis. To reference the negative comment below, compared to what I was paying at various vets in Minneapolis before moving to Cedar Rapids, Heartland's pricing is incredibly reasonable -- besides, who nickel and dimes the healthcare for their family and loved ones? I will always pay for top quality care, even for my pets. Maybe there are cheaper vets than Heartland ... I don't know, and frankly, I don't really care. Read Less

I want to start off by saying my experience seeing Dr. Nathan Hein was a good one but unfortunately, other parts of my visits were very negative. Dr. Hein was very thorough and caring during our initial appointment but we had to wait an hour after our scheduled appointment time to see him. On following visits for vaccine boosters,  I encountered rude staff and  was given attitude when I asked to remain with my dog while they administered the vaccines. I don't feel this is an unusual request and I do it for the safety of my dog. On my most recent visit, I found the bill for a vaccine booster to be rather excessive. After calling other area vets, I found Heartland charges nearly double for the vaccine not to mention a technician appointment fee which other vets do not charge for. A fee of almost seven dollars seems overkill when the shot administration took less than thirty seconds. On comparison with past bills, I found this to be a trend with other vaccines as well. The vaccine fees were all nearly double what other vets charge. I am more than happy to pay for great veterinary care for my pets but also don't want to be overcharged. I don't doubt that Dr. Hein is a great doctor but my experience with the staff and the excessive fees has me frustrated and I will be going elsewhere for veterinary care in the future. Read Less

There is no better team than the ENTIRE staff at Heartland Animal Hospital. We've had a really rough year because of our "geriatric" pets...3 cats and 2 dogs. Dr. Hein and staff helped us make tough decisions with tremendous compassion and genuine care for both our "furry kids" and us. They are extremely thorough and presented us with multiple treatment options. We are truly grateful for their personal touch and expertise. I had never euthanized a pet before and the staff were so kind and let me take my time in saying goodbye as well as explaining to me what would happen. I am very greatful to them. I also found the card and paw/nose print to be very comforting.
