Recently had a pet pass away, prior to his death Dr. Hathaway made every effort to try and save him. Entire staff extremely compassionate and even went out of there way o purchase a condolences card and each staff member signed it.

Dr. Hathaway is a country vet through and through...which is exactly what I wanted. I drove all the way from Iowa City to find a vet who would be more interested in solving my pet's problem rather than selling me every service he could.
The first animal I brought to him was my guinea pig who has an abscess on his cheek. Dr. Hathaway flushed out the abscess, gave me care instructions and explained why he was not going to give him antibiotics when most other vets would. Most pet owners think cure, cure, cure...not realize that sometimes the cure can be dangerous as well, particularly when it is not necessary. Dr. Hathaway understood. What he lacks for in "bedside" manner, his receptionist more than makes up for.
I will definitely my other pets to Westside. NOTE: I do think if you have a scaly exotic (e.g., snakes, turtles, iguanas, etc.) you should probably find another vet who specializes in reptiles and amphibians.

I have been taking my animals here for a few years now. He takes very good care of my rabbits, cats, and dogs. When my poodle needed fixed, they kept him for a few days so he could not rip open his stitches playing on our farm. When my dog did rip open his stitches a few days after coming home, we brought him in and they fixed it right away. I highly recommend bringing your pets here.

Vet Hathaway insisted that he kept my dog overnight AGAIN for her spay. But couldn't give me a reason besides he's been a vet for 40 years & my dog has a deep chest. (I still don't underst...

Vet Hathaway insisted that he kept my dog overnight AGAIN for her spay. But couldn't give me a reason besides he's been a vet for 40 years & my dog has a deep chest. (I still don't understand that & I've asked our new vet. Still a mystery.)
Upon asking him to get her for me & she wasn't staying again without a reason. .. he then whipped the door open handed me her leash & started hollering to me.."go in & get her!" when I said no...just get my dog.. he went into a bit of rage. Screaming at his secretary to call the police. She & I were both confused. She refused to call & I said I could make a call. He said "call your lawyer " I stepped outdoors to make a call regarding the crazy situation & soon after he sent my dog & papers out with my fiance. He refuses to help with any further care including follow up care. Hathaway did not offer care instructions or pain medication.
He told my fiance not to call if she falls in the night & her guts fall out. The incision was 1 1/2 to 2 inches. With 3 poorly done staples.
It was pathetic & on DECEMBER 17th 2015.
Before this incident he did well with our previous dog. It's strange because we've been doing business with him a few years & he's made a lot of money from us.
NOW I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM!
If you're PORTRAYING YOURSELF to be a PROFESSIONAL with EXPERIENCE. .. You should ACT LIKE IT.

I wish I could give a million stars. We found a gravely injured kitten in our yard today. We called EVERYWHERE we could think of and no one would take her because it was the 4th of July. Some friends told us about Bob Hathaway and he agreed to see us today. He is a very kind and compassionate man. Unfortunately the kittens injuries were too extensive and the best thing to do for her was to put her to sleep. We are still in shock and awe at how wonderful he was. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you did for this kitten today. She did not die alone and forgotten. She was cared for and loved all the way to the end.

I have been taking my animals here for a few years now. He takes very good care of my rabbits, cats, and dogs. When my poodle needed fixed, they kept him for a few days so he could not rip open his stitches playing on our farm. When my dog did rip open his stitches a few days after coming home, we brought him in and they fixed it right away. I highly recommend bringing your pets here.

I wish I could give a million stars. We found a gravely injured kitten in our yard today. We called EVERYWHERE we could think of and no one would take her because it was the 4th of July. Some friends told us about Bob Hathaway and he agreed to see us today. He is a very kind and compassionate man. Unfortunately the kittens injuries were too extensive and the best thing to do for her was to put her to sleep. We are still in shock and awe at how wonderful he was.
