If you have a nervous dog, this is not the place for you. The vet and assistants walk into the exam room acting scared of my dog. They definitely do not treat him like their own and don’t even try to gain his trust. Right away, they muzzle him. They refuse to take blood tests on him, even with a muzzle on. They definitely do not care about the animals they are seeing. Read Less

Would not recommend this vet clinic to anyone. Vet and vet tech her unbelievably rude to us when we had concerns about our pups loose stool and cough. We have another puppy that goes to West Branch and he had the same exact thing and we were given medicine and the cough was gone in 3 days. After we explained that to our vet after she tried leaving the room in a hurry, she got a complete attitude and we basically had to beg her to give our dog medicine. Not friendly people at all and are only out to get your money. "Free exam" means nothing when the shots are $60 each. I will stick to West Branch! Read Less

So disappointed!  This clinic is within walking distance from our home, my wife and I were so excited to have a vet so close.  After moving to Iowa from California one of our dogs was due for shots so we took him to this vet clinic.  I was told on the phone that along with the shots the vet would give our dog a complimentary exam which I though was a nice gesture.  When we arrived I was a little surprised by the layout of the clinic - a long skinny hallway/waiting area makes it very difficult to keep dogs separated from other dogs - not ideal if you have a dog that is less than friendly with strangers. When it was our turn the vet & vet tech came in and quickly gave our dog his shots.  The "exam" lasted no more than 30 seconds and quite literally consisted of a quick pat down.  The vet didn't even bother to comment at all on this "exam".  Within a minute of walking in the door the vet was finished and ready to leave the room.  She was very cold and unfriendly and unlike any other veterinary experience I have ever had.  I stopped her as she was about to walk out the door to ask a couple of questions - one being about heart worm medication/testing.  Where we were in California heart worm wasn't common and it wasn't typical for dogs to be on heart worm medication or tested yearly.  I was aware that in other states this is common practice and wasn't sure about Iowa so I asked the vet.  She very rudely told me "yes heart worm testing and medication is strongly recommend in Iowa.  BUT you declined to have your dogs blood tested so I can't give you medication."  I have never been so shocked by rude behavior in my life!  When checking in the receptionist did ask if I wanted blood work done along with the shots.  When I asked what it was for she didn't have an answer other than to have a "baseline".  To me this seemed unnecessary so I declined.  Had she explained it was important to test for heart worm I would certainly have had a different answer.  I was so taken back by the vet's rude response that before I could tell her that I'd like to have blood work done she was out the door.Needless to say we will NEVER be visiting this clinic and have actively discouraged everyone we know from doing so also.  The cherry on top was paying over $100 for TWO shots.  (Which in California costs us less than half - California!  A state where almost everything is overpriced compared to the rest of the country.)Shame on you North Liberty Pet Clinic!  It is extremely unacceptable to treat customers rudely, and to try to make them feel bad and guilty for not opting to have something done when it wasn't explained to them in the first place.  You obviously do not care about your customers. So very disappointed in this clinic. Had been taking our puppy here for care since we brought him home and had never had any issues. One day we brought him in after a week of diarrhea and thinking he may have scratched his eye. During the appointment our puppy was muzzled so Dr. Shields could check his eye while the vet tech held his neck and head. Without noticing that they were suffocating him, he suddenly lost consciousness and fell limp on the table. Long story short, our puppy was suffocated and due to his unconscious state, ended up with fluid on his lungs. He spent the next few hours in the pet emergency hospital trying to stabilize oxygen levels. Not one time did we hear an "I'm sorry" or an offer to pay the ER bill. Only after I went back to talk to them did they agree to pay part of the ER bill. Ended up paying them over $100 to suffocate my puppy and leave him with fluid on his lungs, all without remorse or a simple "sorry for almost killing your dog".Read Less

Dr. Shannon has been our vet for 8 years, since our oldest dog was a puppy. We have always been treated with love, compassion, and respect by the staff there, but never so much as yesterday. We have a foster dog and I was concerned with what I saw in the stool and took in a sample. As was suspected, there were worms. Dr. Shannon and Amanda made time in the schedule to see her give her the meds and care that she needs. They made me felt better about my own dogs' safety as well as our special visitor.
