Took our puppy for his 1st checkup and shots. That visit was ok. Then out of the blue our puppy gets very ill. Took him to the animal hospital. He got worse overnight and so we brought him in. The receptionist was very cold and sterile, she stated that they could NOT see him until later that afternoon. Our Puppy was in so much pain that we ended up taking him to Animal Doctors. We were greeted and treated with compassion. They got him in right away as they could see how ill he was. I will not recommend this Clinic. This puppy is a therapy dog for my boyfriend who died 2 times and had open heart surgery with less than 40% chance he would survive the surgery. I strongly urge to teach your receptionist to treat people with compassion or get a human being that has empathy because the one who you have now does not. Read Less

I had heard great things about this place about 2 years ago when I was looking into veterinarians in the metro area. Dr. John Broderick was the one person everyone kept talking about.From the first vet appointment to the latest one, I've seen some great staffing at this office. Dr John is fantastic! Every time you see him in the main entrance area, his face lights up seeing each animal come in the door. He loves his job and you can see this in the way he treats all the animals he cares for and the animal lovers. You can also see this in the way every staff person handles each animal interaction.My dog is pretty chill when we take her to the vet and we thank Broderick for that. He's so loving towards her when he's checking her muscles, ears, and overall health. And any questions we have about her, he always has an answer for. We are always concerned about one of her eyes because it tears up a bit more compared to the other. During every visit he takes the extra time to look into this concern for us, in case something does gradually occur between visits. Our dog has gone to this vet her whole life (2 years, 14 in dog years) and we hope to continue this until she's old and gray. It was easy to reach her by phone and she communicated well with the other clinic to come up with a treatment plan on my puppy. Dr. John and his staff are very caring and compassionate. They treat your pet like it's their own. They cared for our dogs for the last 12 years and we just recently lost our last one. Dr John has been my family's vet for over 10 yrs. I used to have a Rottweiler and Dr. John was the only vet that my dog would deal with without a muzzle. Since then, I have brought my two other dogs and cat to him and his service is beyond exemplary. I recently had to put one of those dogs down due to bone cancer and can say, without a doubt, he was almost as sad as I was! This clinic is top notch. We have used them for years for a wide range of services. They are thorough and efficient . X-rays were taken, then read and a diagnosis was given in short order. Any and all questions were answered and explanations given until there was a clear understanding on our part. When the occasions arose and we had to say those final goodbyes, care and compassion were needed, we got them there. Experienced vets are excellent and round out their services. Switched from oaks clinic and Had been taking my dog leo here for a couple months. Thought it was an ok place at first until this weekend. Online they have their hours saying open till 1 pm on Saturdays. I had an emergency with my puppy, and he was bleeding pretty badly due to breaking glass. It was 12:30, and we rushed him there since it was his vet, and also the closest to us. When my mom got there they REFUSED to see him, when you could clearly see his arms bleeding through the wraps we put on the cuts. They said "sorry there's nothing we can do our technicians and doctors are getting ready to leave" EXCUSE ME?? GETTING READY TOO? You are a VETERINARY! and you don't close for another 30 mins! I don't give a crap if you were only open for 10 more minutes! It shows how much they TRULY care about animals. I had heard negative things about my friends who've taken there pets here before, but decided to give them a chance. NEVER will i EVER take my dog here again. Rude staff, and not friendly. They need to rethink their jobs. We even asked if they could just give him a look and help us wrap his arms until we could get him to the vet in urbandale. Or to give us an E collar. We have brought our two dogs here for the past year, after moving into the area. By far the best prices in the area on vaccines and exams. I have seen Dr. Kaiser, and another female doctor, and they along with staff have always been very pleasant, caring and helpful. One of our dogs, suffers from anxiety and is prone to nervous biting, and the staff (due to my heeding) is always very cautious to stay away from his face, but still show him love and affection. Our other dog, Sandy, hurt his leg, and the staff kindly helped me carry him back to my car after his visit. They do however, keep cats in the lobby generally, and I have one dog in particular that is a hound, and attacks cats, so I have to make sure to call prior to my appointment and ask that the cats be moved prior to us coming in-- staff is always helpful and makes sure to move the cats to another room while we are in the lobby. LOVE this place! I was 12 minutes late getting to the vet and got there after they had closed. I was so sad because I needed to pick up some meds for my pup but couldn't be released from work any earlier. They unlocked the door, gave me the meds, and had me pay the next day. My regular vet couldn't get my geriatric dog in for a horrible earache but Broderick made him a same day appointment. The staff and vet was friendly and welcoming. They treated my furbaby well and gave him medication. I give them a 5 based on this stuff. It was hard to find and was on Hickman instead of 4th St. Dexter gets frequent earaches so I know the normal cost. He got different medication to put inside his ears but got the same oral antibiotic. This was about $35 - $40 more than I spend at his regular vet. It was worth it to have Dex treated a day sooner. These additional things are why I gave 4 stars. Read Less

We have always taken our pets to Broderick's for many years. We have a little Yorkie who has been declining in health for some time. We saw a number of doctors in the office over the last couple of years and we had brought up her worsening condition. Her condition was always blamed on her age and possibly arthritis. Recently she has seemed much worse so we decided to get a second opinion. After examining her and listening to her symptoms she was immediately diagnosed with a degenerative disease unique to her breed and has been in a lot of pain for a long time. We were so sad to think that we had let her suffer for so long. I don't know if Broderick's have gotten too busy to take enough time with their patients but we have taken all of our pets elsewhere for care after this incidence. Read Less

Dr. John is the best. He doesn't give up on any animal. Recently one of my cats was very ill to the point we weren't sure if she was going to make it. He tried everything in his knowledge and bag of tricks to make sure this cat had every opportunity to live. You can tell he loves animals, he is compassionate and understands what pet owners are going through. He saw the emotion and, quite frankly, the devastation on my family's faces when we were saying good bye. The procedure Dr. John did saved my cat's life, literally. She was at deaths door 1 day and came home the next. She is getting better and better every day. I will always be grateful to Dr. John and his staff for taking such good care of my baby. Read Less

We had been clients for 2+ years when they refused to see me dog even though she was peeing blood. She had been into their clinic twice in 10 days for the same thing and then they refused to see her even though we told them we were leaving town and were in an emergency situation.  They said to call back in the morning and they would see if there was an opening!! I asked what they do in an emergency if a dog was dying and the receptionist said "well is she dying"  OMG -- how would I know that, that is why I needed to see a Vet!!!  I called the new Vet clinic down the road 1 mile, they got my dog right in, did an xray and a through exam and got my dog on the correct meds. They even offered to drive to the kennel where I was going to Board her since they were full up for Spring Break. I will never go back to Brodericks! Read Less

I have had nothing but amazing and professional experiences with Broderick Animal Clinic. I've taken all 4 of my pets there for years. My cat passed away a couple of days ago, and I had no idea what to do. The Brodericks made the process a bit easier by helping with arrangements, giving me as much time as I needed to say goodbye, and had an incredibly quick turnaround time for me to ger her ashes back. I would like to thank the extraordinary staff at Broderick Animal Clinic for the compassionate and excellent care you have provided to my 2 dogs. I switched to your clinic (after getting referrals from friends) after being disappointed with how I was treated at my previous vet, where I felt they were more interested in upselling to me than in the care of my pets. This really upset me especially during a difficult time with my dog, who I thought I was going to lose to health issues. I've seen all 3 vets at Broderick and every one has been wonderful. More recently I've been seeing Dr. Kaiser during the last portion of my dog Chip's life. She has always been professional, knowledgeable, compassionate, and respectful of my decisions. I've appreciated the follow up calls to check on him as well as the call backs when I've had questions, as I know you are all very busy. I very recently made the extremely difficult choice to euthanize my dog - MY first dog and one I adopted from rescue. I couldn't have asked for a better veterinarian or technician to be in the room with me to provide a peaceful and humane end to my little companion's life. I've recommended your clinic to my friends (and you've gained some new clients) because you are worth the drive for me (I live on the opposite end of the city), and because I value your fairness in all aspects (pricing, how you treat your human and animal clients, and level of expertise).
