So last night my old gelding was suffering from choke. I called my now EX vet emergency line and asked her to come out. She was RUDE. I've never had a warm fuzzy feeling about them but last night was absolutely unacceptable. I had a horse with choke and he was in need of medical care to remove the blockage along with some antibiotics to prevent infection and pneumonia. I called the after hours vet emergency line left a message but when the ON CALL vet returned my call she said I can't make it out there. I figured she was on another emergency call so I said I can wait, any idea of how long it will be before you are available? She then tells me she's out of town seeing her son. I asked her why she was out of town if she was the on call emergency vet and her response was, we have personal lives too and I'm the only vet. Now, unless the other gal who was out at my barn less than a year ago up and quit I know she is not the only vet. But that's not why I'm so upset. I understand that things happen and sometimes a vet may be unavailable, my concern is how she handled the situation. She was outright rude. When I asked her what she refer me to do or if she had another vet in mind I could call since she couldn't help me she said no, I suggest you google it. Okay....then I said I wasn't impressed with an emergency vet not being available because of personal time. YOU ARE ON CALL!!!!! My horses and myself depend on a vet that is reliable. She actually told me, well I could just not answer the phone next time. RUDE RUDE RUDE. Luckily for my big guy I found Red Oak Animal Hospital and specifically Dr. Maureen Sutter who was out at my barn in less than an hour (she was on another call AND 20 minute drive from me). I will definitely be using Red Oak from now on, I will gladly give reviews and vet suggestions to Red Oak when asked.
Finding a great vet who is gentle, knowledgeable, patient, kind and compassionate is worth every penny. Dr. Sutter was so good to my guy who was distressed and she took her time to make sure he was relaxed and generally happy. By the time she left she was able to remove the blockage, administer meds and make sure my big guy was good to go. SHE IS GREAT! First impression - SPOT ON!

With easy access from 69 hwy, this became my animal hospital by default, and while I haven't had much experience with them other than annual shots for my pets, the staff are always friendly and accomm...
With easy access from 69 hwy, this became my animal hospital by default, and while I haven't had much experience with them other than annual shots for my pets, the staff are always friendly and accommodating. They have been very honest in regards to treatments thus far.
I don't have much to compare with but they do seem a touch pricey.

My Great Pyrenees puppy had an emergency on a Sunday needing stitches. My regular vet wasn't on call but Dr. Sutter was at this clinic. The vets and staff were great. Even though this animal hospital was 35 minutes from my farm I wouldn't hesitate to bring any animals to them.

So last night my old gelding was suffering from choke. I called my now EX vet emergency line and asked her to come out. She was RUDE. I've never had a warm fuzzy feeling about them but last night was absolutely unacceptable. I had a horse with choke and he was in need of medical care to remove the blockage along with some antibiotics to prevent infection and pneumonia. With easy access from 69 hwy, this became my animal hospital by default, and while I haven't had much experience with them other than annual shots for my pets, the staff are always friendly and accommodating. They have been very honest in regards to treatments thus far.

My Great Pyrenees puppy had an emergency on a Sunday needing stitches. My regular vet wasn't on call but Dr. Sutter was at this clinic. The vets and staff were great. Even though this animal hospital was 35 minutes from my farm I wouldn't hesitate to bring any animals to them.
