We recently switched to Fairway due to a move. We were so sad to leave our old vet (which we had for 20 years!) but from the second we stepped into Fairway I knew we'd found great place. The front desk is welcoming, informative and genuine. We see Nancy McClain and she is just the best. Her approach is so warm and welcoming and I think her thoroughness sets her apart. She also discusses her examinations with you and is very easy to talk to. Nancy even got down and sat on the floor to help examine one of our anxious pups during his routine visit! Our dogs have a great experience when they come and I know they're getting great care. Everyone's happy! Edit: We had to call in recently due to a pet having his first seizure, their tech line was SO helpful and set our minds at ease while taking the time to help us devise a plan going forward, right there on the phone. I am always in awe of how amazing this entire staff is. From their positive and caring social media presence to their quality care for our adopted pit bull. I always get nervous to see how people will react to our pit bull but everyone here just got down in his face and gave him love like he was their own. I continue to be amazed at how everyone works together to make sure we have the best possible care. There is no small job at Fairway animal hospital and everyone is working toward the same goal: to keep all their furry clients healthy AND happy. I don't even want to single out a specific person because it's truly a team effort. I have been taking my dogs to Fairway Animal Hospital for years! I live out South in OP now, and it's well worth the trip every time we have a routine visit or concern. The staff and docs are incredible, and follow up constantly to see how my pets are doing. Tonight was no exception - when the staff stayed late an extra hour and a half to take care of my dog who has been in and out of the emergency vet the last two days (Dr. White is amazing). We used to take our pets to KC Vet Clinic on Wornall. They were pretty rude to us on multiple occasions and the place just seems dirty, loud, and out-dated. We switched to Fairway and couldn't be happier. Amazing service, extremely clean facility, and the friendliest staff I've ever seen at a veterinary clinic. I won't go anywhere else ever again. I've been bringing my dog here for about a year now, and can enthusiastically recommend them. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. And Dr. White is amazing. He is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I especially love that he knows a lot about dachshunds (he has his own), so he is really able to help me with certain "dachshund issues" that have come up. I first brought my dachshund here when she was having back pain, and I fully expected to be scolded as a "bad owner" for "letting" this happen. Dr. White was very understanding, he could tell I was doing my best by keeping my dog at a healthy weight and in good physical shape, and he realizes that sometimes these things just happen. He was great about laying out a reasonable plan for reducing her immediate pain and monitoring over time to make sure she didn't have relapses. He even called a couple days later to make sure she was feeling better. A year later, she is feeling great and has been back-pain free for quite some time! My parents and I have been taking our pets here for many years. Normally I would give them a great review but today in our time of need they were the worst possible place to call. My parents dog Baxter had a horrible wound on his side. (You can check my page for pictures if you don't believe me) They called Fairway Animal Hospital at 5:20pm and asked if they could see him. It was an emergency and he was in serious pain. The man on the phone rudely answered "NO!" They were not closed yet. He didn't offer to speak to a doctor or even check if they could try to help. A "NO!" is all we got. I expected more out of the people we have trusted our pets with for YEARS. I was appalled. We have had such a good experience with this vet clinic! I moved to the Plaza area about 3 years ago and we needed a new doctor for our family pets. I can not say enough good things about all of the doctors we have met and the entire staff! Luckily, we have fairly young pets at this point and have just been for annual checkups, shots and the spaying of new kitty we adopted. They are very good about getting us in for an appointment in a timely fashion. We will keep using this clinic for years to come! Read Less

I came here on the recommendation of an experienced dog owner and horseman.  I'm so glad I did.  Finding a good vet is really hard.  Dr. Risen is very knowledgable and thorough.  She has very patiently helped me figure out what's going on with my dog's health.  She doesn't just jump to the most expensive sort of testing, but takes time to think about all the facts and assess the dog as an individual.  She's calm and matter-of-fact, and her personality puts both me and my dog at ease.  I also feel that she's genuinely happy to see us when we come in.  This is a fairly busy clinic, but the front desk staff has always been very helpful and pleasant.  They've been known to squeeze me in when an emergency arises, rather than have me make a trip to an emergency clinic.  They are happy to answer questions over the phone, give a message to Dr. Risen (who always calls back), or provide records on short notice. I rarely leave reviews, but we have received such incredible care from two different veterinarians on staff that I feel the need to yell it to the world. We've had trouble finding vets that weren't trying to overcharge for silly services and came to Dr. White at the recommendation of a friend... Sadly they only knew our dog Tanner with the diagnosis of lymphoma. Not only did they treat Tanner with love and excellent care, they treated us like intelligent, caring, concerned dog parents. Dr. White counseled me through what it would be like to pursue treatments, or not, how I might know it was time to put Tanner to sleep, and did so with kindness and sympathy. When it was time for him to go, it was Dr. Turner on staff. I was nervous about having a vet I hadn't met put him to sleep, but she was so kind and caring... She even cried with us as we held Tanner in his last few moments. Never have I felt so grateful for someone to cry with me before. It's been a week and a half and we just received the nicest card from Dr. Turner - well above and beyond your standard sympathy card from a veterinarian, and more like a note from a friend. This personal touch is the kind of service I have only experienced here, and I'm so grateful. THANK YOU Fairway, Dr. Turner, and Dr. White, and the amazing staff, for taking such good care of us and our pup. You made a very difficult time as caring as pleasant as it could be... We were referred to Fairway Vet Clinic and had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Stephen White to give us a second opinion on our 9 year old Golden Retriever's joint issues. He spent over 45 minutes with us assessing her and going over treatment options, which was a nice change for us. Additionally, he called the next morning after reviewing her chart again, (on his day off), and gave us some additional information from our conversation the day before. He also sent us a personal note thanking us for trying their clinic since we live in Olathe. I cannot express the sincere concern we felt from him and will now make this our primary vet clinic. Fairway Animal Hospital not only has the best Vet I've ever encountered in all my years of having dogs, but is also the most well run place of business I know of.I really can't say enough about Hires Gage, DVM. Dr. Gage treats both animals and their owners with respect and compassion as well as expertise.This is a person who sees my pet quickly when there is a problems, spends time investigating slowly and methodically until he feels like he really has a good feel for what's going on, and calls me back repeatedly to check on both me and my dog throughout treatment. I remember when my dog was hurt as a pup, all six foot something of Dr. Gage got down on the floor to watch her walk until he knew what was wrong. When one dog needed to be put down, Dr. Gage came to the house so we could say goodbye in the place where the dog was comfortable, and made a donation in the dog's memory to a non-profit. Unbelievable. What I don't understand is why human healthcare doesn't learn some lessons from clinics like Fairway Animal Hospital. The prices are reasonable and justifiable, the billing is fast and efficient, the staff is extremely competent and pleasant. The care is compassionate and professional. I've had cancer, and I have never experienced anything like this level of care from my own health providers. If I could make this place my own provider, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Read Less

Dr Turner is awesome. She is helping us get through my babies cancer Dx. This was very heart breaking when we found out he had cancer. She educated us and only wanted what was best for Romeo. She is always there to answer our questions and listen to our concerns. I'm really disappointed with this place! Which is sad because it came recommended and seems to have lots of great reviews! I adopted a dog and brought him here for an initial check up. He was very nervous for obvious reasons. I mean he'd been in a shelter and I did just adopt him about a week ago. Fast forward to a few weeks later. He was having issues with my dad coming to the house and would cower behind me and growl. I knew it was just him being protective but I wanted to find a way to correct it. So I called the vet. He all but said my dog was a bad apple. He went on about how he knew I loved the dog but you have to be careful because they can get aggressive. I'm sorry but you saw my dog ONCE when I'd only had him for less than a week and you're willing to just make a snap judgment like that. It was really upsetting!! I ended up taking my dog down to Kansas City veterinary clinic at 75th an wornall. They've been absolutely amazing and completely understanding about my dogs nervousness! Read Less

I saw Dr. White here and he is amazing. I brought my cat in (a same day appointment mind you) he had been vomiting and lethargic. The doctor was very thorough and checked every little detail about my cat. The technicians and receptionist were friendly and the facility was very clean and this was even on a busy day. My family and I are so grateful for the wonderful staff at Fairway Animal Hospital. During the last year, we called and visited frequently regarding our 15-year-old pug Lily and her health issues. The staff, especially Dr. Bradford, was always responsive and understanding. Yesterday, we had to say goodbye to Lily. She was a part of our family, and it was incredibly hard. Dr. White assured us that we were doing the right thing for Lily and did everything he could to bring comfort to Lily and our family. He was patient with us throughout the long visit and gave us privacy when we needed it. He let my sister hold Lily during her last moments with us, which I know made both of them feel better. We greatly appreciated Dr. White's calming presence and genuine kindness during such a difficult time. This place is great.  I recently went to banfield and was told that my dog needed teeth pulled.  I got a second opinion from this place and they said they were just fine.  Which I figured because she just had teeth removed  a few months before when she was adopted.  They also didn't try to push a lot optional services on me. Not only do they treat my dogs well and with kindness but as always, I am a frantic mess when I bring both my dogs and toddler in to see them (my dogs aren't exactly the friendly type). Last night was no exception. It was even dinner time for my daughter. They got us in and out, as well as comforted me in knowing the dogs will be fine (bad skin allergies). The best part was while I was checking out, the vet played with my daughter and strolled her around the waiting room. She even helped me to my car. I was shocked. There are some medical providers who must be chosen with great care, and the veterinarian is one of those.  Just as with choosing a pediatrician for your child, your fur baby requires the utmost attention in selection.  For my pets, I trust their health to the wonderful vets at Fairway Animal Hospital.  My favorite vet here is Dr. Serena Turner.  I bring my dog and my cats to her for their annual check ups and any visits they require; however, I have seen several other vets here, and all of them are stellar.  Making appointments is very easy by phone, especially if you are willing to see any veterinarian as opposed to insisting on a specific doctor.  They even see patients on Saturday mornings!  Another reason to bring your pets here is the coffee.  They grind their beans each morning for a delicious fresh brew.  Somehow it is much easier to fight a housecat into a carrier if you know that a hot cup of coffee is waiting for you!  And since the nurses are so nice about giving biscuits to their canine patients, the cup of coffee makes me feel like I am getting a treat too!And for those who are looking to adopt a new furry family member, the desk has a binder of pets in need of a home! Love love love.I'm a first time dog owner, never had a dog growing up and though I knew very much that I would love my dog, I'm often like a new parent with her. (She's not eating as much as normal...is that okay? Her paw looks funny...what's wrong? etc.)Not once after all of my ridiculous questions has anyone even batted an eye - always treated me with respect and understanding and have never given me grief for perhaps being more worried about my dog than I should have been.In all of my visits (I got my dog about a year ago and have taken her there ever since), the entire experience has been nothing short of pleasant, whether it is a routine vaccination or an injured paw. Great advice, great service, and I can't recommend Dr. Bradford enough. This is not the closest vet to my house, but it is worth the effort to get there! Read Less

Unbelievable five star service. Not only are they great vets - (and staff) - but they care. The staff know you by name, and the vet's call and check in even on their off days. I've lived in many different cities in the US and abroad and have never had this kind of quality of care. One of our dogs is dying now....and Dr Gage has given us the medical facts so we understand what's going on with our 'first born' and the emotional support to be able to handle the changes as she slowly leaves us. He's educated us on 'quality of life' so we can ensure our girl is not in any pain. He's followed up with us on his days off and when I call to ask a question about her, the front desk knows who we are and treats us with kindness and respect. You don't really pay attention, nor appreciate this kind of quality of service until you really need it....and from first hand experience, Fairway is among the best there is. Read Less

Fairway Animal Hospital is not the closest vet to my house, but based on the Yelp reviews I was happy to drive a few extra minutes.  I'm so glad I did!  When my dog Fletcher and I arrived, we were greeted by two very nice women at the front desk who gave me a couple of papers to fill out.  The whole building is very well maintained and clean.  I was having trouble holding my (very curious) dog's leash and writing at the same time, so one of them came and occupied him while I finished the paperwork.  They were both so sweet to him!  I didn't have to wait more than a minute after that to be lead back to see the vet.Dr Gage was wonderful.  He patiently answered all of my questions, gave Fletcher a thorough examination, and cleaned out his ears.  When I had called to inquire about the price of an exam they said that I would recieve a discount on the first exam since my dog is from a shelter.  It turns out they didn't charge me for the exam at all - only for the heartworm medication and a fecal test.I couldn't have asked for better service than I recieved at Fairway Animal Hospital.  I think Fletcher and I will be returning for a long time to come. I live about a block away from this place so it was an easy choice, but fortunately it turned out to be both very close and a good hospital.Phone calls are quickly answered and setting up an appointment for my dog was easy. When I brought my guy in the staff was very friendly and didn't mind him sniffing around and exploring their desk. Both the tech and the vet, Bonnie Dechant, were very knowledgeable and competent, answering my wife's and my questions, printing out some literature for us, and getting along with the dog very well - he has a good temperament already but the folks here made it even easier. We're first-time dog owners and only got him a few weeks ago, and the staff here is a terrific resource.Since bringing him in I've called a few times with additional questions and the staff has continued to be extremely helpful. We even got a handwritten note from the doctor thanking us, which was a nice surprise. To top it off the fees for the first visit are waived if your dog is adopted. I'm glad I live near such a terrific hospital and as long as I'm in fairway, and possibly afterwards, I'll keep taking my dog here. Read Less

We have been clients of Fairway A.H. since about 1986. I got home and had a dog in distress (breathing loudly). I called to bring her in. They were still open and I had plenty of time to get there. I was told to go to another clinic (I won't mention their name). I was floored by this response. If you can't call your vet in an emergency, what God are they?! So I did call another vet and they saw us, got my dog stabilized and even let me pay a partial payment. Normally FAH has been good, front desk staff is awful. I might have find my new vet thanks to FAH refusing to see my dog. Read Less

After our dog, Sadie, passed away we ended up buying a house in the OP with a fenced in yard...and what does a yard and an empty house need? Dogs! So we adopted 2 new little guys, and then found ourselves in need of a local vet. Where to go? Well, we did some research, and asked some good Yelper friends (who love their dog as much as we love ours!), and they suggested Fairway Animal Hospital. I'm so glad they did!The staff and the Vets here are top-notch. When we had issues with getting one dogs' paperwork and old records, one of the receptionists (I think her name is Hallie) went above and beyond to help us out, and was friendly and kind throughout the entire ordeal. The entire facility is very clean, we're always able to get our boys in for an appointment as quickly as needed, I love the extended/Saturday hours, and any time we've had tests or anything done we get a call right away with the results. (We also haven't needed to make an appointment if we just need a quick tech visit, which is super helpful.)Our little dogs see Dr. Gage, and he is really good with them. He's kind and soothing if they're nervous, but he also treats them like DOGS, not delicate little babies, which I like. (They're little, but they're not going to be riding around in purses any time EVER). After the first time we saw him, he sent us a very kind note thanking us for adopting and referring to our dogs by name - a great personal touch. We also got a discount on our first visit because we had rescued our pups! The next time we were in, one of our dogs had worms, and we not only received the medicine we needed with detailed instructions, but also information on worms, how to prevent them in the future, etc. This was nice to have, and saved me from doing the dreaded internet research.The other reason I really like everyone at Fairway is that they don't treat people like idiots if they're "overly concerned" about their pets. I'm an experienced pet owner, but I still have my moments of extreme worry over little things, and my questions are always answered kindly and details are explained fully. I never feel like I'm bothering anyone or asking stupid questions.I don't think any dog likes to go to the vet, but our dogs are never upset to be there, either, which is the icing on the cake. If my dogs can give that kind of endorsement, I can easily say that Fairway Animal Hospital deserves every one of the 5 stars, and the pups will be patients there for a long time to come. Read Less

Fairway Animal Hospital is just a great business.  We have taken our dog to a couple of different vets in town and ended up moving here because one of the veterinarians lives in our neighborhood and we had heard fantastic things about the care given to animals.So, we have always been happy but recently, we were taking care of my dad's two cats while he was on an extended trip to Mexico and one of them became sick.  The story didn't end well for any of us, but I have to applaud Fairway Animal Clinic for getting us the appointments we needed with short notice and for diagnosing the issue quickly.Bottom line, excellent animal care, fast and friendly.  They are also on Facebook and have the cutest wall of 'New Clients' (puppies and kitties) that they keep updated. We have taken both of our animals to Fairway for several years now. We love the vets and technicians (for the most part) and our pets have always gotten quality care. However, the front desk staff is an entirely different story. Rude, abrasive and condescending. When one of our animals required significant treament that wasn't in our budget at the time, I inquired about a payment plan (there's a sign about it right above the front desk!) and from then on was treated like a leper by the front desk folks whenever I brought either of our pets in. The payment plan was for a four digit figure, not $50. I do not appreciate being treated like a deadbeat by a receptionist...you would think they of all people would appreciate the extreme effort I put forth to get my pet's mysterious illness diagnosed and treated. Needless to say, now that the bill is paid, I will be picking up both my animals records and moving do a different facility where we will ALL be treated with a little more respect. Read Less

You absolutely can't find more compassionate or knowledgeable vet's office in the Kansas City area. I started taking my dog to Fairway when she was a puppy, almost 8 years ago. I have had appointments with every single vet in the office and I love all of them. I don't even request a certain doctor when making an appointment, because I know I'll be happy with any of their care. I had a health scare with my dog a few weeks ago and they worked me in immediately. After deciding to keep her overnight on IV antibiotics, Dr. White called me multiple times with updates on her condition. It was such a relief to leave her in the care of someone who was just as concerned about her health as I was. I have recommended Fairway Animal Hospital to many people over the past 8 years, and have only received extremely positive feedback. Without a doubt, they are the best in the city. Read Less

I?ve always left this vet office with a bad feeling. I?ve never been greeted when I enter the doors of the facility. I?ve never been thanked following a vet visit and/or bill payment. The ?front line? (staff) is abrasive and lacks any sort of hospitality. For those that board pets at vet offices, please do not board yours here. I would absolutely fear having their associate staff watch over a furry loved one. I can't imagine them showing care and compassion for a pet. Read Less

We have taken pet ownership very seriously since our first kitty, Sam, came into our lives.  One of the first things we did after moving back here almost 3 years ago was to find a vet before finding a doctor, dentist, salon, etc..for ourselves.We have had appointments with 4 doctors within the practice and almost all the techs have helped us.  All have been helpful, receptive and sincere with their care.  Our main vet, Dr. White, has been very nice and doesn't make us feel odd for being "overly concerned".  I appreciate when we call and need to speak to one of the vets they actually call us back and take the time to review charts, notes and such.  What made them even better, after the first of the year, they have extended hours during the week.  Plus they are open all day on Saturday.  I can't compare on pricing though.  This is the only vet, besides Mission Med Vet (Emergency), we have been to.  We found a winner first try. Brought both of my cats here for their first check up.  The receptionist was friendly, helpful and funny.  The doctor was very nice and quick.  The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is because I wasn't there long enough or haven't been back yet to know if it deserves it.
