I take my three little dogs here for grooming and vet care, and they do a fantastic job each time we visit. One of my yorkies has had difficulties getting used to groomers in the past, but he has done very well here. Price is very reasonable, and my boys always come home looking great. The staff are professional and welcoming but I can't in good conscious leave this place a positive review. I took my dog to get what should have been a standard spay. I am now aware it was performed by a temporary doctor who was covering for Dr. Smith during her maternity leave. A few months after the initial operation my dog went into heat which I assumed was a UTI because my dog was supposed to be spayed and couldn't possibly be in heat, right? 3 visits, 2 surgeries, 1 week of waiting for blood work to get processed from Cornell university and my dog is finally spayed. After the second surgery Dr. Mertz's explanation was "somehow we just messed up and forgot to take the second ovary out". That was literally what she said to me. I couldn't believe it. In my mind that is unacceptable from a licensed veterinarian. If they can mess up something that should be as standard as a spay then I hate to think how they would handle a more complex procedure. Even though they refunded the bloodwork costs and completely covered the cost of the second surgery (they were prepared to charge my girlfriend $530) I would be hesitant to take my dog there again unless it's an emergency. When I called and asked for a price, I was quoted 150 dollars under what they told us it would be when we showed up for our appointment. Then they weren't willing to treat our dog because they require vaccines that the state doesn't. I was very disappointed and frustrated with their communication and customer service. Vet side...every time, no matter what, you always wait atleast 30 mins before the vet comes in. It's always in a very hot exam room. I was the only one there for an appointment, it didn't matter, it was 30 minutes. You could see them laughing and talking, while I'm sitting there waiting with two hot panting restless dogs. Very irritating ! I only go there for nail clipping now, very quick, in and out Today I thought I would try their grooming side. My appt time comes, still there. Receptionist calls the groomer, who is still not at work, to see where she's at. She then asks if I could come back in an hour..are you kidding me? If she hadn't called, how long do you think I would be sitting there? Unacceptable! Disrespectful to the customer! I wouldn't write such a bad review if it was one bad occurance. Dr. Mertz and crew were amazing. When my dog Parker dislocated a hip she did a wonderful surgery and helped him walk somewhat normal again. When Parker was 14 we had to make a decision to put him to sleep. Dr. Mertz was yet again nothing short of wonderful. She comforted our family. She explained the procedure so clearly that our teenage children understood and felt better about the whole situation. They even worked with me, payment wise when Parker had to have the surgery. This vet is perfect! I just moved to Kansas from Pennsylvania with a new puppy! The appointment was easy to make! Then the reminders via text were really great and convenient! Then to really top it off the ladies who work there are AWESOME! They were very helpful and knew a lot! So very personable and kind! I am truly thankful for finding this place!
