I’ve been taking my dog to Dr. Bradley since he was 7 weeks old and now about to be 7 years old thanks to Dr. Bradley. My dog woke up last year not being able to walk. It was on a Sunday and so I had to take him to an emergency vet. The emergency vet had no idea what was going on with my dog. The emergency doctor did X-rays and gave my dog pain meds and thought it was something with his abdominal area. Thankfully Monday came around and I took my dog to Dr. Bradley and he immediately knew my dog was paralyzed. Dr. Bradley diagnosed my dog with FCE(not something you see every day) once he put all his symptoms together. Thankfully to Dr. Bradley my dog is still alive and walking back to 100% function. All I can say is "Wow!" A cat showed up in our yard last night & he was such a lover we decided to keep him. I had no previous experiences with Bradley, but when I called this morning, they had me in the clinic by 10am to get him looked over. We discovered he had a chip & we contacted the owner. The staff STILL looked him over for me anyway (no fleas, good weight, etc). They gave me some food to last while we wait to hear back, and a whole hour of their time. The clinic was clean & welcoming, to say nothing of the attitude of the staff. For ALL of this, they didn't charge me ANYTHING at all. They even held the door for me on the way out. Very expensive.  They charge you for actually injecting your pet which is besides the cost of the medicine.  They also charge you for drawing blood from your pet....I can understand charging for the actual blood test which has to be sent out to LMH and is very expensive. Read Less

Dr. Magee came into my life at a very hard time for me and my dog Frankie. She did everything in her power to help my best friend but ultimately, Frankie did not make it. Her bedside manner is second to none. She's professional, compassionate, patient, and generous.I couldn't have asked for a better experience under the circumstances. All of the support staffers are top notch. They have a great selection of food and toys/tools for taking care of any pet. I have 2 other animals that have been seeing other vets and I'll be taking them here from now on. Read Less

There is NOWHERE else to take your furrbaby. I take both of my dogs there and they treat them like they are their own pets. I couldn't be happier that Bradley Animal Hospital is here in Lawrence and so close to my home. Every staff member is helpful and a true animal lover and that shows. I have been bringing my much-loved dog to Bradley Animal Hospital to see Dr. Magee for about a year and a half. They were recommended to me by someone at the K-State Veterinary Medicine school when I had an emergency (she chewed up a chicken bone she found on the ground at the park). I brought my dog in and she was super stressed out and shaking like a leaf (doesn't like new indoor places in general), and I sat with her on the floor until we could see the doctor as a walk-in. Dr. Magee walked in, said hello, and sat right down on the floor with us to greet my dog. In that instant, I knew that I had found the perfect vet. She spoke gently to my dog and examined her thoroughly. She asked many questions and listened thoughtfully. She did an x-ray to see if there was visible bone that looked too long or sharp to pass through the digestive tract. Nothing showed up so it was either chewed up very small or it hadn't been a bone, just some crunchy skin. While she had the x-ray up, she also examined it for any other issues, and pointed out that my dog has a mild luxating patella to monitor. The doctor and techs weighed her, gave her a nail trim, checked over all her other parts (ears, eyes, etc.), giving her a thorough exam since I was already paying for the visit. I really appreciated that they took the time to give my dog a full checkup while we were there. I went back to Bradley Animal Hospital a couple of times to have my dog's eyes checked because I had become paranoid about glaucoma due to a friend's Shiba going blind very quickly from undetected eye problems. I saw both Dr. Magee and Dr. Bradley on those two visits, respectively. They were very kind and patient and did not make me feel like a crazy person for being so high strung about my dog's perfectly healthy eyes. They agreed to check her eyes with a tonometer (I had been googling things) and both times her eye pressure was fine. Dr. Bradley is an absolute hoot - he was the doctor I saw the second time, and he gave me a very gentle and very humorous talking-to about when it was time to worry and when it was not time to worry. He also had some words with me about my dog's luxating patella and did some Socratic method teaching with a diagram of dog body types to point out that yes, my dog did need to lose about five pounds (to be 25 max instead of 30), and that this would help her knee a lot, and that I could also give her supplements that might help keep it healthy longer. Then he joked that I should just ignore all that because he is going to retire eventually and if she needed knee surgery that would make a nice boat payment and then he kind of winked. Hahaha! Also, when he went to look in Kit's eyes he asked if she would get nervous or upset and I said she wouldn't as long as he didn't put anything in her butt (like a thermometer) and he replied "Well, we all have our limits." HAHAHAHA!!! I was dying. I have never laughed so much in a vet visit in my life. Dr. Magee is our primary care doctor that we usually see, and when we went in for my dog's annual checkup and shots this week I could see that my dog still doesn't like going to the vet, but she no longer shakes in terror or tries to hide. She trusts Dr. Magee and her vet techs and behaves well for them because they are kind and gentle and calm.  It is very different from the vet we used to see before, where she liked the doctor ok (but not as relaxed as she is with Dr. Magee) and really, really didn't like her new vet tech. I had issues with that vet tech's attitude and personality too, so I can understand why my dog felt that way. ALL the vet techs at Bradley are absolute angels. As far as the second-most recent review goes, I have to say something. If you take a kitten in for a free checkup, and that kitten turns out to look sick, and the vet cares for the kitten and does what's needed to diagnose and treat the sickness, that does not warrant a one-star review. That is just rude of the reviewer. This veterinarian's office is not going to assume that treating a sick animal is optional, they're going to treat the animal and then you're going to pay for the treatment. If you want a vet who will give you the option of leaving the office with a sick kitten you have no intention of treating, go somewhere else. Kittens are notoriously fragile critters who can catch all kinds of things at the shelter or wherever, and the shelter doesn't monitor all the kittens and puppies for illness without visible symptoms. That's up to you after you adopt. I know one woman whose shelter-adopted dachsund turned out to have a terrible blood infection and within four days of adopting the dog she was out $4000 in hospital bills to save his life. That is one of the risks you take adopting from the shelter, and if you can't commit to the prospect of paying for medical care for an animal, you shouldn't be allowed to have one, much less three. This is an excellent facility if you want a thorough, well-explained diagnosis and treatment plan for your pet. I had a Dachshund with a chronic issue, and Dr. Bradley worked with me until we found a solution. In each visit, I was given all the information (including pricing) to help decide the next course of treatment. I'm impressed with the level of expertise and care at this office. Read Less

I will never go here again. It was a complete scam. I went in for a "free" check up for my kitten. They took him out of the room to get weighed and to cut his nails, and came back in the room and they had ran a test, given him a shot, and given him flee medicine all without saying a word to us. So of course we walked out of there with an overpriced bill. I have a regular vet that I go to. This one visit that was supposed to be free cost more than my first three visits at my regular vet for my dog. Read Less

Excellent Service!  My husband and I take our cat and dog here.  My husband had all of the interactions at this clinic and raved about it until I got to go myself.  My dog got unexpectedly sick and they were helpful on the phone.  Because they were full during the day with appointments they kept our dog for observation.  Also they were up front with costs before we checked him in.  They gave me a clear statement of what to expect as a bill for checking our dog in.  When the doctor (Dr. Drey) could see him, I got a phone call from him right after the exam and got to pick him up later when I got off work.The next time I took our dog in was for a dental procedure where I got to finally meet Dr. Bradley himself.  Again, when I checked him in, they gave me a clear estimate of costs before I left.  Unfortunately when they did the procedure they found a fractured tooth.  I got a phone call with all the information from Dr. Bradley while he was doing the procedure.  He went through all the options available for my dog and gave me his personal recommendation.  He also recommended that Loki stay overnight (free of charge because of how unexpected it was) for pain management related to the tooth extraction.When the office staff scheduled a pick-up appointment for the next day, I could only do the afternoon because of work arrangements.  The office staff said Dr. Bradley would be off by that time and I would be see a different doctor.  However, when I came him, he was at the receptionist desk and because the receptionist was busy, he took care of me.  When I identified myself as Loki's owner, he took me back to a exam room and he stayed late and despite the fact that he could have said I'm on my way out - he took me right back to an exam room and went over the whole procedure with me - pictures, the actual tooth that was fractured, and discharge instructions.  Very pleasant, very personable guy.  He even asked what my profession was and when he found out I was a nurse he started reviewing other things about Loki's health with me like his lab work, EKG, and vitals from the procedure.  This place is sooooooo much better than so many other animal clinics I've been to in Lawrence.  I am SO happy we made the switch to Bradley Care Animal Hospital.  Also being a healthcare provider, I do have certain expectations (unfortunately or fortunately-however you see it).  I find it odd that people mention that they were treated rudely.  Out of my now three encounters in the past 2 months, (plus my husbands encounters for the past year) we have always had the best treatment when we walk in.  Honestly, I wish I could find a doctor for my own personal health as good as Dr. Bradley is for our pets. One of the worst things about moving away from Lawrence, Kansas for me was leaving my beloved Dr. Bradley behind. Not only is everyone at this clinic amazing, but Dr. Bradley is one of the kindest and most sincere people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.Not only did he take care of all three of my cats - one from the time she was a baby until we moved - but he also saved one of my cat's lives. The amount of personal care and attention he gave Wyn was amazing, and I will forever be grateful to it. He was never angry if I called with extra questions or rushed Wyn in just to be on the safe side. Four years ago, I was terrified my cat would die, and now he is a healthy, happy cat living the good life thanks to this vet!On top of that, Dr. Bradley was all too happy to also provide vet care to my plethora of small animals, especially my rats. He treated all my rats with the same amount of respect he would have shown a cat or dog - something a lot of vets surprisingly won't do. If he didn't know the answer to a question about the rats, he was eager and willing to call the small animal specialists at the KSU Vet school and get the right answers. He helped numerous rats of mine with respiratory infections, tumor removals, head tilt... you name it. My last trip to the clinic was to pick up prescription food for my oldest cat as well as ask some questions about the meds we were given to help the entire gang move from Lawrence to Seattle, and I was presented with a good luck card signed by Dr. Bradley and the entire staff - it was truly a lovely sentiment! One of the hardest parts about moving is undoubtedly finding a new vet, because I will never find one as amazing as Dr. Bradley. The higher prices for his clinic are completely worth it. Not only is it an AAHA credited clinic, but Dr. Bradley is ABVP certified in both canine and feline, so you are always getting the top-of-the-line, most sophisticated care. This place is good for vaccinations and putting your animal to sleep...and that is it!! The office visits are way higher than most in Lawrence and they charge you for tests they cannot even do properly. And their bedside manner is atrocious. My cat suddenly had a large and hard bulge in his neck, took him to Dr. Wilson and she took a sample of the fluid to test. Charged us for the test then told us she wasn't trained to look under the slide to tell what it was!! All she could say was it was either a tumor or infection. So we had to wait a few days for Dr. Bradley to do the cytology (he was on a trip). When I called for the test results on the day staff told me it would be ready I got "oh he's in exams until 7, maybe he'll get to it". Got a call at 9pm from an assistant saying Dr. Bradley looked and all he saw were lots of white blood cells and another type of cell indicating either a TUMOR OR INFECTION. So why on earth was I charged $45 for this test to get told the exact same thing during the exam?! I asked if she could be more specific, she said no and I asked to speak to Dr. Bradley for a better explanation. All I wanted to know was what was wrong with my cat. And to know what was the point of this test if their diagnostic skills were the same regardless!! When he answers the phone, I politely ask him how he's doing. "TIRED!" is the response I get. Well sorry for trying to find out if my cat is dying, perhaps you should not be a vet if you can't handle getting calls past business hours. Was the trip you took the week before not long enough for you? I explain I don't understand why he can't see what's in the slide, he repeats "a pathologist needs to look at it, it's $125". I ask well did he see anything? Then he proceeds to list off types of cells, with no explanation and talks down to me the whole time. I've been to some insensitive doctors, but I cannot believe the tone and disrespect coming out of his mouth. Then he says he will credit me the $45, but that I should have a pathologist look at the slide. So I go in the next day to get my refund, like hell I'm bringing my cat back! And of course he tries to explain they learned a lot from the test, blah blah blah. He refuses to give me a refund and states "well I told you we would use that $45 towards the pathologist fee." Like hell he did! My bf heard the whole conversation. Then I tell him that's fine if you want to weasel out of refunding me that useless test and I'm never taking my animals here again. "Good luck with your life" is the response I got. WOW! I can't imagine how he would treat human patients!! Should have listened to my co-worker when she told me she too had a rude, thoughtless and disrespectful appt with Dr. Bradley! Read Less

How has nobody reviewed Bradley Animal Hospital yet?  This place is wonderful!  Let me explain.I have a dumb dog.  My dog is REALLY REALLY dumb, but I love her immensely.  She has a really nasty habit of finding the one thing in the house that could possibly kill her and finding a way to ingest it when I'm not looking.  I don't care if the house was given the once over with a fine-toothed comb, that dog would find SOMETHING to ingest.  She's done this at least 3 times now and, like a miracle worker, each time the kind folks at Dr. Bradley's Animal Hospital have brought her back from certain death.  Bradley Animal Hospital isn't cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for.  I've had at least 8 more years with my dog so far that I wouldn't have had if they hadn't found new and exciting ways to save her life over and over again.  (Insert something about natural selection here, yadda yadda yadda).  The nursing staff is always sweet and gentle with my animals and they LOVE going to the vet as a result.  A pocketful of tasty snacks is all it takes to win my girls over, but the ear scratches don't hurt, either.I recommend taking your beloved pets to this fine establishment as my family has done for nearly 20 years!  You will not be disappointed and your animals will live longer (albeit still dumb) lives!
