My wife brought in our obviously very sick dog. Dr Lewis did a poor job of asking questions to my very distressed wife. He didn't offer to run any tests or do a thorough check up. He provided us with very little information. He gave our dog two shots and sent us on our way. The next day our dog didn't improve. We chose a different vet and received much better service, a more thorough check up and tests runs. Turns out our dog had kidney failure. We will never return to Dr Lewis and I would NEVER recommend him to anyone. Read Less

I have a rescue dog who is VERY anti-social, but Lewis is only one of two vets that she doesn't hate. He is very patient with her and doesn't try to charge you for things that are unnecessary. He's a true old school vet that obviously is in the practice because he loves it not to make loads of money. I highly recommend him. Read Less

I've been going here for years 10+ years, my family even longer so. Fantastic service and Dr. Lewis has a true love and passion for animals. He's been in business for ever but this goes to show after all that time and he still cares and hasn't become jaded. I'm tough on business and customer service believe me when I say the prices are reasonable and you know he's just as concerned with your pets health as you are. I watched a lady come in with a deceased dog she he consoled her and even came out wrapped the dog up and carried the dog back inside because she obviously couldn't handle the loss but his empathy was incredible. He has the biggest heart I've ever seen in pet health care provider to date. Bottom line he saved my cats life, I didn't have the money for this untimely event the day before Christmas I was broke and my loving furbaby Jennie was on death's door. He worked with me and helped me be able to give her iv fluids at home. He is a very generous and I feel he truly cares. His prices are not crazy expensive like all the other vets here in town , Wakawrusa vets office charged me 200.00 to give my cat iv fluids under her skin and Lewis veterinarian clinic he charged me $10.00 for the iv bag and some needles and showed me how do it at home. Sorry for the long story but I just wanted to let others know he is a great vet that's not greedy like most I have dealt with in the past. I understand that they work hard and I'm not saying that they don't but there is a difference between this vet clinic then the rest He is definitely worth a lot more than 5 stars in my book! I can't say enough good things about Dr. Lewis. Not only is this the most affordable Vet in town , but he also provides compassionate care for your fury friends. I took my 18 year old Betty in to see him when she was squelching in pain..it turned out her heart was bad..not surprising given her age..he gave us some medicine but also made it clear that she would not get better, just hopefully slow the process down a bit. I think he wanted to give us time to prepare ourselves. Within a week we came to the inevitable decision as she was in a LOT of immediate distress. We brought her in on Monday, but couldn't bring ourselves to do because as we were driving there she had her head out the window and she seemed to be having a good day, but she turned for the worse over night and by Tuesday morning we did the right thing. Did I mention he didn't even charge us when we went in on Monday and couldn't put her down? What a guy, you don't get that sort of compassion at those big vets..they turn you out like a number and send you a 500 dollar fee for finding nothing wrong yes, I've had those bills. Dr. Lewis was so caring, he gave us a nicer blanket to wrap her in when she passed on. When I had an emotional break down after she had passed, he gave me some time to collect myself, didn't rush me and I felt that he truly cared for us both. Thank you for all the support your office has given me for past 40 yrs !! My last two dogs lived a long and good life. Thank u for your insight into animal vs just reading blood work. They lived a good healthy life..into old old age ! With your help, I was to have them age with out evasive procedures, yea as they GOT OLDER one may have had cancer but she lived well and long and died peacefully in her home. Worst vet around. Too old to do anything serious to any type of animal. I would never let your animal go under the knife at his vet clinic. Said since our dog was going blind, Oh who cares he is just a dog anyways. As well as many other things. Plenty of more qualified, and knowledgeable vets around. Do let him misdiagnose your animal and act like its no big deal. Go to someone else. Id give zero starts if it were an option. Read Less

I took my newly adopted dog from the Humane Society to Lewis Veterinary Clinic. Both the receptionist/assistant and vet were wonderful. The check-up was free, and I paid for a rabies vaccine, heartworm testing, and Heartgard. The prices were right, the demeanor and explanations of Dr. Lewis were wonderful, and Brenda thoughtfully cut off the UPC from the Heartgard to save for next time - there is a $12 rebate! He doesn't try to upsell or push any products on you (we talked about types of dog food and teeth cleaning). I will be back. Read Less

Dr. Lewis was amazing! Extremely caring, gives suggestions on what to do and does not try to charge you and arm and a leg - however, his secretary was EXTREMELY rude and disrespectful. Never take your animal to Dr. Lewis.  We were established clients with a 15 year old yorkie.  We called his answering service at 9pm at night due to our dog being in an extraordinary amount of pain, not able to stand, but unable to get comfortable and crying for an hour straight, and frankly on his way out.  We called to have him put down, but Dr. Lewis (after our second call to the answering service, finally got connected) refused and told us to give him aspirin, didn't even ask questions.  You choose your own profession, and being a veterinarian means you have to respond to issues when it's not business hours.  Don't just write your clients off.  Totally unimpressed. Very nice people working here. They accepted the shelter's voucher for a free exam for my newly adopted kitten, as well as provided me with very reasonable rates for my rabies and tapeworm shots. A couple months later, I found a stray kitten. They gave him a free exam, as well as a free month of Frontline. Their spay/neuter rates are extremely affordable, as well. Once more, Dr. Lewis and his receptionist Brenda have proven to be some of the most caring, compassionate vets in town for me.  When my cat Pablo suffered two urinary blockages, Dr. Lewis unblocked him twice without doing unnessary tests or labwork to keep my costs down, and let him go home "to be less stressed".This time around, I found my beloved 14 yr old cat Ymirs lying in his own body fluids, mostly non-responsive and unable to lift his head or get up, I thought "stroke?"  and rushed him up to the office, where Dr. Lewis confirmed "probably blew a blood clot, which is similar to a stroke."  He very kindly guided Ymirs to a peaceful end, with a simple injection, and Brenda "held my emotional hand" while I took Ymirs back out.Dr. Lewis has also done a very low-cost spay for a shelter kitty we adopted a few years ago, as he was one of the few Lawrence vets who accepted the shelter voucher.  Never had a problem with her after the surgery and she healed up in no time.  If you are worried about the high costs of veterinary care, Dr. Lewis is great with helping keep your beloved pets in good health.The only reason he doesn't get five stars is that he's a bit behind the times with pain relief for cats, but often there are procedures that just don't seem to warrant dosing a cat with medications. I'm shocked that no one has reviewed this place!  Dr. Lewis and his staff are awesome! There's no one else in Lawrence I'd recommend trusting your pet to - we've recommended numerous people to this clinic and they've all had fabulous experiences. There prices here are much more affordable than some of the other clinics in town and their staff genuinely care about your pets. Having moved to California, I can attest that good, caring, veterinary clinics are hard to come by - this one is certainly a gem. Read Less
