This was our beloved family member “BLUE”. Our experience here was heart wrenching, disappointing, upsetting and tragic. Our boy had an obstruction and blue pearl did not have a surgeon on hand so they called mission who said they did so we rushed him there and arrived at midnight Saturday. They wanted to observe him first…. The truth was they did not have a surgeon there to help him. We trusted them and left him for them to care for him. At noon we will still had heard nothing so we went to pick him up and wait till the next day for our local vet. They told us they could not guarantee he would survive if we left with him and that their surgeon was on the way. We agreed as we were so scared for him. Everyone that spoke with us made us feel like we were at a fast food restaurant… they were quick, not very informative and not very friendly. We agreed to have him operated on. We were never told of anything bad that could happen from the surgery we were just told it would save his life. The cost was $7500 and had it had even been more we would have paid any price to save him. They sent him home the next day not even 24hr’s after his surgery with a fentanyl patch on and he could barely walk out of the place. We assumed he was just drugged up and week from surgery….. a day 1/2 later he was still not eating, drinking and barely walking so we rushed him to our local vet who informed us he was in critical condition and has become septic….. we lost him 😭 our beautiful boy BLUE
Mission NEVER called us after the surgery to check on him which is shocking for any clinic/hospital that you go to recieve care. Our vet did an autopsy and his stitches had come open in his small intestines. The surgeon didn’t even advice the hospital to keep him after the surgery. I would have paid anything for them to care for them as they should have. Please think twice about taking your loved one here. This hospitals priority is MONEY they don’t have any care for the animals or the owners that entrust them. This has taken me a month to pull myself together to share my experience. I would of gave this place zero stars if I could... I brought my pregnant dane in because she was having problems delivering. They took her right back for her vitals and would not allow us with her. Then the doctor did an X-ray to see if there was a puppy and came back out to us and told us there was and he could show us the X-ray. We went to a room and he showed us the puppy. He said it was dead because he could not see a heartbeat and told us there was many reasons it can happen. They gave her shots to try to induce labor. Nothing happened. They said we have a choice to wait over night and see if she has it or to get a C-section. We chose to wait to see if she will later have it because we was told it was not alive. We took her to our vet (Indepence animal hospital) the next day because she did not have it overnight. A C-section was done extremely fast and I was right by her side the whole time! The puppy came out and was lifeless, but it had a heartbeat! My vet worked on the puppy what seemed to be forever and he screamed. The puppy made it amazingly! If it was not for this vet telling me he did not have a heartbeat he could of been out sooner. I asked my vets office about what he told me with the heartbeat and they said a heartbeat can not even be seen on an X-ray! Very disappointed by this vet. They even told me they would fax over what they did to our vets office and they never did. Read Less

Very disappointed in the customer service we received from the Staff at VCA Mission. The Veterinarian we spoke to, Dr. Thomas Mick, was extremely unhelpful. The information he gave us from the start was incredibly vague and when follow up questions were asked to try to clarify the situation his responses were "i dont know? anything could happen." and "could be." Obviously, the expectation is not for a medical professional to predict the future. However, our expectation was that he would help us make some hard decisions regarding our dog's health by keeping us informed and providing his professional opinion. Unfortunately, we were met with complete ambivalence and an attitude like he didn't have the time to talk. Unfortunately, I think Dr. Mick's attitude is contagious because it was reflected in the entirety of the staff (aside from one very nice lady at the front desk, the one with dark hair NOT the dirty blonde). All in all, this was a very disappointing experience and we spent the night speculating as to why our dog was still uncomfortable and in pain because we paid VCA to treat us like we were a nuisance. We brought our dog in on a Sunday night because he was unable to use his hind legs. We were not allowed to go into the back with our dog even for his vitals check. The vet took radiographs and said that they could not see anything obvious. The Dr. then offered us a surgery saying that it would run us $3,000. We asked what the surgery entailed and it was not explained at all. Saying that we were unwilling to do anything so drastic without more detai;l we asked what the next step for taking care of him would be We were told, ""It's just nursing care from here."" The next morning we took the dog to his typical vet where they immediately ran blood work (which Mission vet had opted against). He has a severe urinary tract infection and an extremely high bacteria count in his blood. He has been on antibiotics for a day and is already starting to sit up and scoot his back legs around bit. When I called Mission Med Vet to explain what had happened I was directed to the business office. I explained our story. I was told that the Dr. we had seen was new, as if that is excusable. They were sorry if her comment about nursing our dog came across the way it had (as if there was some other way panicked pet owners would interpret that). She then ended the conversation by offering us a surgical consult. We will neither be returning, nor recommending them to anyone. Read Less

The VCA staff was professional and compassionate during a very tough time for us and our pup. We had many questions, and the internal medicine vet was extremely kind and answered all questions thoroughly. She also called personally to give us the prognosis and talked with us for many minutes and again, answered all of our questions. The techs and front desk staff were also kind, sympathetic, and helpful. Would definitely return to this clinic.Read Less

Read Less
