I came in late one afternoon with my kitty and they stayed late to rush him into treatment. They held him for two weeks and let me visit him whenever I could. They knew I was short on money and did everything they could to keep costs down so we could focus on getting better. Unfortunately, my sweet baby boy couldn't pull though. But I never felt as comfortable and reassured by a vet as I did at Knappenberger. Dr. Knappenberger is kind, considerate, descriptive in his plans for treatments, and you can tell that he genuinely cares not only for your animal, but for you too. I will never go anywhere else as long as I can help it. Thank you for everything you did for us Dr. Knappenberger, I'll always be indebted to you for the extra few weeks I got to spend with Loki. Google reviews doesn't allow for enough space. I wrote a fairly lengthy reviews on Yelp and their Facebook page, so please go there if you want to understand why I rated this office a 2-star. To boil it down, this office runs internal labs that are not thorough. They tried to diagnosis my dog with early-stage kidney disease without enough clinical support for the medical diagnosis. All they did was try to push a bag of Hill's diet on me when my dog was on a far better diet. Knappenberger Sr. couldn't even properly explain why Hill's kibble was a better diet without reading the bag, which is unimpressive considering how many years he has been a vet. When I refused the bag, he glared at me and treated me like I was going to kill my dog. I took her for a second opinion at an integrative vet's office in Lenexa. The vet agreed with me and we re-ran lab work and also ran a urinalysis. She was diagnosed with early-stage kidney disease and the vet began proper treatment, including placing her on a phosphorous binder, prescribing her a blood pressure medication to reduce blood pressure and proteinuria, and approving a herbal remedy for kidney function that I had found online. The only diet change made was switching her to a raw diet, Nature's Variety small bites, because raw is processed better through the digestive system and this diet is higher in water content than kibble. We re-ran test about 60 days later and all of her values had dropped significantly. But I will say Todd is a decent vet. He did a thorough wellness exam on one of my prior dogs and found a mass on her bladder and blood/urine leakage. He ordered a urinalysis and an ultrasound and determined she had a malignant tumor on her bladder. We euthanized soon after. Writing a negative online review was a very difficult decision for me, because I do think Todd is a decent vet as stated before. But to be blunt, this office either needs to improve upon their internal labs or they need to outsource, period. The primary reason this vet is getting 2-stars is due to how Knappenberger Sr. handled the kidney disease diagnosis and their internal labs. Read Less

I moved to Olathe a few years ago. I was referred to Dr. Knappenberger and have been a happy customer ever since. I've had everything from routine exams to teeth cleaning to spaying my puppy performed here for my pets. The service is always professional, top quality and reasonable. Thy are prompt with returning calls, and have even called me back during off hours when I was having a minor emergency with a pet. Having worked in nearly every facet of animal care in the Kansas City area, I know a LOT of vets. It says a lot, then, that I continue to recommend this clinic to everyone I meet who asks about good local pet doctors. My family has been going to Knappenberger Vet Clinic since we moved to Olathe in 1991. After two decades, we've used nearly every service they offer, from simple things like wellness visits and vaccinations to more complex things like spay surgeries, emergencies, and euthanasias. I have never been disappointed in them. The clinic is a family-run operation, lead by a father/son team of veterinarians and staffed by the rest of the Knappenberger clan. Tom, the older vet, is the one I have had the most personal experience with. He is a gentle and caring person, and very conscious of the fact that many pet owners have financial constraints to consider when outlining a plan for their animals' healthcare.Perfect example of this: I had to call him at around 2 AM one summer night seven years ago when one of my cats, Sebastian, had a blocked urinary tract and a full bladder that felt hard as a rock. I was still fairly new at veterinary medicine, but I knew enough to know that this was a serious situation; if we didn't get his urethra unblocked, his bladder would rupture. I had originally taken him to Mission MedVet, where they wanted $600 to place a catheter and keep him overnight. No amount of love I had for my cat was going to make that much money magically appear in my bank account, so I called and explained the situation to Tom, who told us to meet him at the clinic as soon as possible. He catheterized Sebastian and drained his bladder, relieving the pressure and likely saving his life. When my then-boyfriend explained our financial situation (which, at the time, was pretty pitiful), Tom let us write a postdated check for the cost of the procedure so that we could pay him after our next payday. I don't know that he would do this for just anyone who walked in off the street, but he'd known my family for nearly fifteen years at that point, and it is a testament to how much he values his clients' loyalty that he bent the rules for us.Tom has also euthanized two of our family pets, and was very helpful and supportive throughout the whole procedure, especially to my mother. As awful as that experience always is, I'm glad it was him helping us through it.I have also used the clinic's boarding facility, Paw Palace, when my normal petsitter has been unavailable. They've cared for my two miniature pinschers, Luke and Fox. They always take great care of my dogs and never seem to have issues with Luke, who has a bit of an... attitude. Their kennel staff is really nice, the cost is reasonable, and I always feel good knowing that the boys are in good hands while I'm out of town. The clinic is located in southwest Olathe, so it's a bit of a drive from some parts of the Metro area, but I really feel like it's worth the drive. After twenty years, we'd have gone elsewhere by now if it wasn't. Read Less
