Summary: I was tricked into buying a "wellness" plan with monthly installments that I did NOT want. Now, I can't get out of the annual contract and am stuck with an overpriced plan that doesn't do my pets any good. :( And the sneaky woman at the counter named Mary is NOT out to help you, but instead just needs to make her sales quota. I came into Banfield Pet Hospital just to get a small set of shots so that my two toy poodles could stay at a kennel/puppy hotel for an upcoming vacation. I was visiting family in the area, and was in a rush to get this done on a Sunday evening. I was quoted $165.00 for the total of 4 shots I would need between the two dogs, and I had a coupon for a free office visit for new clients. At first I thought that the front desk receptionist, Mary, was just being kind and trying to save me money by offering me the Wellness Plan- but then I was told by the customer service center that she is the "guru salesperson for that Banfield to sell those wellness plans." To make a long story short, I was told that if I signed up for the Wellness Plan, that I would pay only $159 total for the two dogs and I would get hundreds of dollars in savings for future preventive medical treatment (blood draws, shots, office visits, etc.). I repeatedly asked if there was a monthly payment in addition to that base value of $159 for two dogs, and I was told MULTIPLE times "NO." After giving my dogs the shots that I came in for, they asked if they could go ahead and do some blood work and give some more shots that would all fall under the $159 wellness plan amount. I agreed, on the condition that they would not cost more than the $159. Of course I said yes, because I was told that it was a better deal than paying $165 for just the four shots. Upon checkout I was asked if I wanted to pay the whole year or just today's due. I said that I will go ahead and pay the year in full, thinking it was $159 as mentioned on numerous occasions. Then Mary proceeded to say, no sweetheart (she only referred to me as "sweetheart" or "hun"- which I do NOT find endearing, but rather very unprofessional) there is a $24/month fee per dog each month in addition to the $159 base amount for the two dogs. Thus... each dog = $159 base amount + $24/month (*12) *2 dogs= $711.00 for the year!!!! My face was obviously in SHOCK and Mary did briefly apologize if I had been misunderstood... but at that time they had already done $900 worth of blood draws/fecal checks/shots to my dogs that were medically unnecessary!!! If I didn't sign the Wellness contract I would have had to pay the $900 worth of tests that were already done. I was in such a rush and was so upset by this that I just signed the papers and decided to call the customer service line at Banfield later that week. When I spoke to the customer service representative, they called Mary from the Overland Park Banfield, and they basically said that it was her word against mine. She said that she expressed the monthly payments, and I expressed that she ONLY discussed the $159 charge with me. After a LONG yelling session on the phone back and forth, they said that they would knock off two month's payment (about $100), but that I was not able to get out of the year long contract. Basically, MARY at the Overland Park Banfield misrepresented herself and the Wellness Plan that Banfield offers, and I am paying the price for it big-time. My dogs are super low maintenance and rarely, rarely come into contact with other dogs- so all of these unnecessary preventive injections are nice I guess, but not something that I would have ever gotten- and definitely not something that I would have signed up to pay top dollar for. Overall, do NOT go to this Banfield unless you want to be sold outrageously high "wellness plans," treated like an idiot, and be lied to. These plans do NOT cover medications, treatment, or hospital stays, and really do me little good for two little lap dogs. I do have to say though, that the vet who dealt with us was incredibly nice and even gave us a callback about our dogs. She had nothing to do with the wellness plan and knew nothing about it even when we asked her- so we have no issues with her. Read Less
