This place is needlessly expensive. They charge 2-3xs as much for their services as do other clinics that get even better reviews. They were going to charge me over $500 dollars for one set of vaccinations and to castrate my kitten, where another reputable reputable clinic a few minutes away charge of half that. Definitely shop around before you throw your money away here. Read Less

Dr. Daly and Dr. Gates have cared for our pets since 1988.  The care our pets receive is outstanding.  We feel more like part of the family than customers and I believe they have always cared for our pets as if they were their own.  Dr. Daly has always taken the time to investigate when something is wrong instead of recommending unnecessary procedures and medicines. You can instantly feel their love for the animals they care for and their genuine concern for the entire family.  There aren't enough stars to give them for their exceptional knowledge and passion for their profession.  I am so thankful to them for all they do! Took the family dog there for 14 years and have been taking my own for 10 & 1 year(s). I usually go for whoever's available, but Dr. Mayerske is the most familiar with my dogs and has provided excellent, above and beyond care. After my dog and I were hit by a car 6 years ago, he gave me his cell # and when Maddox's foot started to swell I was able to reach him quickly, send him pictures, and get info on what to do immediately. So grateful to have had that link, rather than feeling lost and worrying all night until I could take him in. Recommend PVAH to all of my friends and will continue to go there for all of my dogs' needs! Read Less

We started coming to Prairie Village Animal Hospital after bringing a Land of Paws pup into our family. After Kessler's second set of puppy shots, we noticed she wasn't noticing tennis balls or any of her toys that moved...and asked about it on our next visit. Dr. Gates was WONDERFUL, scheduling Kessler for a next-day appointment to get her eyes dilated to take a closer look. When he said he couldn't determine the problem (but knew there was one), he covered all the charges to send us to Dr. Hunkeler (a canine eye specialist in Lee's Summit). She determined Kessler's retinas were detached, but she could live a long, happy, and relatively normal life. When we went back for our last set of vaccines, Dr. Gates cried over our little blind puppy and apologized for all the trouble, and for not having caught the problem when Land of Paws first put her up for sale. He said he knew we were attached to Kessler and couldn't fathom sending her back, so he offered to refund the full purchase price. He also paid for all of her vaccinations, medications, and her spay surgery. The day Kessler was spayed, Kansas City was hit with a major snowstorm. It took us two hours to get there from downtown, and when we called en route to say we didn't want our little blind pup waking up alone in a strange kennel with stitches but weren't sure we'd make it in time, one of the wonderful receptionists offered to stay open until we were able to get there. It then took us four hours to get home...but I was eternally grateful for their kindness.Prairie Village Animal Hospital certainly was not the closest veterinarian to downtown, but I kept going there because of the wonderful care they gave to both me and my pets. Since then, I have moved to New York City for work, but my dogs travel halfway across the country with me to continue seeing Dr. Gates for their annual checkups. I couldn't imagine taking them anywhere else. Read Less

Prairie Village Animal Hospital is certainly not the closest vet to my home, but I keep going here because I think they're the best.  Most of my visits are to Drs. Mayerske and Gates, who both take plenty of time petting and talking to my dogs to make sure they are as comfortable and relaxed in their offices as possible, and leave with positive memories of the experience and not just the smart of the vaccination needles.  I also appreciate their unwillingness to sell us on unnecessary procedures, and how they actively consider what will provide a real benefit to my dogs vs. simply causing them stress in the short term.  At many vets' offices, when I asked if my dog needed her teeth cleaned, I'd get a yes and an opportunity to charge me a lot and need for my dog to undergo an uncomfortable procedure.  Here they simply assure me that they'll let me know when or if that is necessary.  I've also been given direct cell phone numbers to the vets so I can give an update on my dog's progress.  Their concern seems genuine, and that's something I truly appreciate. I've met several of the vets since you don't make appointments here.  That's probably my only wish.  It would be nice, but that being said if you don't mind which vet you see (and they are all great) you can get in really fast.  You can request a specific vet if they are there that day, but you may have to wait a while.  They are very caring and helped us thorough the end-of-life issues with one of our dogs.  The vet even sent us a card afterwards which was a nice gesture.  They have kenneling and bathing services.  The staff is really friendly.  The pricing is sort of middle of the road and the care is excellent.  We've been going to them for about 6 years now and haven't had any complaints.
