Monticello Animal Hospital

Shawnee, Kansas
General Info
Monticello Animal Hospital in Shawnee continues to play a significant role in the lives of local pet owners. Monticello Animal Hospital (Shawnee, Kansas) This Kansas-based clinic is one of the very few able to adjust to the posture changes with outstanding fluidity. It starts with spatial reading: how the animal’s weight is distributed, how often their eyes dart around, and whether the tail is stable or swaying. Based on those readings staff arrange themselves; when direct approach causes tension and stand diagonally. When animals become too attuned to voice they pause rather than talk. The initial tools remain stationary and within sight, allowing the pet to familiarize itself visually before the actual play begins. Monticello Animal Hospital delivers advanced integrative diagnostics with surgical consultations and offers pain-tracking and sensory-response care setups for mobility rehab. Every therapeutic technique changes in the course of its implementation. Whenever a pet obtains such posture and looks away the session shifts to the next step called anchoring, which involves repetitive body motions or specific steps until the animal calms down. Aftercare sheets for owners outline pacing techniques such as extending hands in arcs at the sides, adding extra movement visuals into the routine, and using hand motions to direct what steps in the routine they need to take next. Therefore, no changes in home behavior related to animal or caring routines are necessary to maintain the same level of visits. Monticello Animal Hospital ensures an intricate web of quiet messaging and gradual speed for families in Shawnee and pet owners throughout Kansas rather than just medical treatment. Some of the popular services offered by this facility include surgery, wellness exams, internal medicine, vaccinations, diagnostics, oncology, avian (bird) care, laser therapy, dental care, and telehealth. Whether it’s a routine wellness plan or an elaborate health issue, one can rest assured that the pet is in safe hands. The team is always growing and learning in order to provide the best possible care for pets.

In response to the Guinea pig; first I am sorry you felt that the price was too much and that I did not honor the quote. The quote I gave of $240 was correct and was written in the chart at the time of the exam. I also remember saying that if you were not happy with my services or would like to find another vet that would do the procedure for less than that I would understand. You said you would like to continue with our services. I did a thorough exam, checked the teeth, weight, heart/lungs, eyes, ears, feet, hair coat, went over a thorough history and feeding guide as well as discussed the risks of anesthesia for Guinea pigs- all for $40. I am sorry you felt like that wasn't worth your money. Secondly, I took wonderful care of the pig which went through surgery without complications. I am not in this profession because we make so much money. In fact based on the hours we put in and all the free services we give away because clients like to place guilt on us for requiring payment for our services, it comes down to about $20 per hour. Not a lot when your trying to run a business. So please if you are still reading this, understand there are two sides to every review and my care, thoroughness, and honesty throughout this experiences has been heartfelt. Read Less

Awful service the last time I went there. I was a returning customer having taken my guinea pigs there a few times to get checked by Dr. Wallis. She was really nice the first few times but this last time her attitude completely changed. I called in a few weeks ago to get an estimate on a neuter for my guinea pig and I also had a few questions about the process. I was told by the assistant that the Doctor was on vacation and only she could answer my questions and to call back when she returns from vacation. I called the following week and finally got Dr. Wallis on the phone. She quoted me $170 for the procedure. Mind you i had already payed $40 for an initial check up that lasted less than 5 minutes so she could make sure the pig was okay for the procedure. Anyway, I scheduled the appointment with her. Surgery day arrives, I take my guinea pig in and the assistant tells me the procedure was going to be $240. I told her that i was initially quoted $170 she went and got Dr. Wallace. The doctor wanted me to pay this price. I asked her to please honor the quote she had given me over the phone but she refused to do it because she didn't quote it herself??? Whats more frustrating is that they had a chart with my pigs information with the price of $170 circled and signed with the doctors name. Despite of this she did not want to honor the price. Eventually after negotiating with her she decided to bring the price down to $200 but it was still too much. It was a bait and switch tactic that they used on me and I didn't feel like this was right. I kept on insisting that she please honor what she had quoted me and she got an attitude and told me that if I was going to make a big deal out of an extra $30 i should just take my guinea pig somewhere else!!! Im sorry Dr. Wallace $30 might not be a big deal to you but it is to me. She continued by saying that patients come in everyday expecting her to do the work for free. I told her that i was paying her a significant amount of money to do this procedure and i would never expect for her to do this for free. Unfortunately I don't get much time off from work and asking for more time off was out of the question. I had to move forward with the procedure and pay $200. Im really dissapointed by the lack of honesty this place establishes and Dr. Wallis's attitude. Please dont consider using this doctor, I've never felt so disrespected in my life specially in a professional setting. Read Less

Neighbors, please beware. We chose MAH based on positive reviews, seemingly competitive pricing, and convenience. However, after a year of using their vet, grooming, and boarding services, we feel compelled to warn our neighbors of their bad business practices. At each groom appointment, the receptionist would spring a list of shots on us that needed to be done immediately—doubling or tripling the anticipated price of the groom appointment. At first we agreed in good faith that they were doing the right thing by us and our dog, but by our third appointment, we were beginning to lose trust. To avoid paying for 3 annual exams within 12 months, we asked them to delay a "recommended" exam until our next appointment where our dog would be receiving a mandatory exam for her rabies vaccine. They ignored these wishes and performed (and charged us for) an exam anyways. When we confronted them about this, they threw it back in our face, said it was our problem, and did nothing to rectify the situation. This is really unfortunate. We had had no complaints about the quality of care our dog has received from them; however, the fact that they had no qualms about ignoring our wishes while our dog was in their care, did not work with us to create a reasonable vaccine and exam schedule, and after talking with them on several occasions, they still did absolutely nothing to make this situation right leaves us feeling that we can no longer trust them with any part of our dog’s care. We will be finding someone else and recommend you look elsewhere as well. Read Less

Monticello Animal Clinic in Shawnee, KS is the best! Dr. Wallis and her staff were the most attentive and caring of our dog that had numerous health issues. He was well cared for during surgery and boarding. He always came home after boarding is a relaxed mood. At other places we went he came home frazzled. We drove 20 miles every time he needed to be looked at or looked after because they took a special interest in our dear pet. I can't say enough. Awful service the last time I went there. I was a returning customer having taken my guinea pigs there a few times to get checked by Dr. Wallis. She was really nice the first few times but this last time her attitude completely changed. Apparently don't know how to answer a phone or schedule an appointment. Extremely unhelpful and not a good first impression, does not make me want to pursue.

The vets at Monticello Animal Hospital are the only vets we've ever used that have taken the time to get to know our cats before examining them. They are thorough, compassionate and personable. And, they are willing to work within an owners budget to find a solution to improve a pet's quality of life. And, whenever I have boarded my cats with them, I have found the quality of care my cats received to be above and beyond my expectations. I love all of the vets and the office staff at Monticello Animal Hospital.

We really miss them now that we have moved from the area. Read Less
