Very much enjoyed the old ownership at Gage Animal, however I have some concerns about the new ownership. To start, I called about my dogs vaccinations and pricing and was put on hold off and on for about 30 minutes before being told they would call me back with an estimate (ultimately I opted to receive an email which was provided). When I got the estimate there was a misunderstanding that I would be boarding my animals through Gage Animal ( I have 2 large dogs) and there were some additional things that needed to be done (which is understandable) what frustrated me was that there was a potential chard of $187 for flea tick and heartworm meds. Again, no issues as policy is policy except when I started to think about this had I chose to board with Gage Animal and was looking to shop around for cheaper meds, I would in no way have any acceptable proof in my mind that my dogs were in compliance with their regulations UNLESS I purchased through them ( Even then I don't understand why this is a mandatory requirement when if I lost the meds or forgot to give them to my dogs no one would ever know). It really seemed as though in this specific situation it was a ploy to get me to spend money (I did find the same Flea, tick and heart medication online for slightly cheaper). Admittedly I am not the best communicator but when I questioned this the response was along the lines of "We are sorry you are unhappy with our policies but you aren't boarding your dogs here so what does it matter" and could not address my concern that as this had never been mentioned to me before (and especially not at that price) how would I know when something "mandatory" wasn't being upsold? Needless to say I switched over to the vet that had been boarding my dogs over the Covid period and I was given a general price over the phone and it was roughly $20-$30 cheaper for the same shots than Gage Animal. I understand businesses need to make money but I am saddened to see the environment change at Gage Animal Center as until this happened it would have received a 5 star rating hands down!

We have 4 pets and we wouldn't take them anywhere else. The doctors take the time to explain things to us so that we thoroughly understand and never make us feel stupid or that we are bothering them. ...
We have 4 pets and we wouldn't take them anywhere else. The doctors take the time to explain things to us so that we thoroughly understand and never make us feel stupid or that we are bothering them. Our fur babies love them. Then there is the staff, they are so caring and go out of their way to help with our fur babies. They really do care about them. Thank you all for all that you do!

Don't go here if you have a seriously emergent situation. I had an actively seizing dog and I understand paperwork was important but the receptionist was acting like it wasn't a priority. We have taken animals here before and absolutely loved the care they recieved. However, having an actively seizing dog and not being made a priority seems like poor triage skills to me. Can't believe it happened here of all places though.

They were able to help with diagnosising a problem quickly and efficiently and had my pet’s health in mind as their priority. My new full time vet office, for sure. Thank you!!

Do not take your animal here if you want there hair cut. I was told they did grooming. They lied. They have no professional groomers. My dogs hair was very choppy and she was still dirty. She felt like she was never even given a bath. Then I felt her tail and it was still wet. They didn't even dry her completely . I was charged $79 for this. This is more than professional groomers charge. The morning receptionist was rude and condescending. If you live in topeka do not take your animal here. Go to Burlingame Road Animal Hospital. I would leave no stars of I could.

Dr Shipman, and more recently Dr Blackwell have always taken magnificent care of our animals. They both are excellent communicators who willingly take the time to explain what's going on, and to ensure that you understand what will be involved with your pets treatment and on-going health.
They have also been enormously supporting when we have gone through end-of-life phases with our pets including the 21 year old cat that Dr Shipman had cared for since she was born in our back bedroom.
If I could give Gage Animal Hospital and their staff 10 stars, I would do so.

So far, so good! We have been taking our dog here since the end of last year (disastrous experience with Stone House Animal Hospital previously, so we switched as soon as we could). It's always pretty quick to get in and see one of the two vets. You can tell they genuinely care about animals. The staff is friendly, especially the vet techs. They sell pet food here as well. It's kind of in an inconvenient location with a small parking lot - that would be my only real complaint.

Bruce and I can't say enough to express how very much it means to us to have someone as capable and compassionate as Dr. Shipman and his very professional team care for our gang: Goldendoodles, Denali and Dexter; Himalayan rescue cat, Eli; and rescue racing pigeon, Da Boyd. Gage Animal Hospital even agreed to board our pigeon while we were away once. However, Denali's "Gorilla Glue" surgery this past week really made us realize how very fortunate we are to have them in Topeka when Dr. Shipman saved Denali's life. Forever Grateful! After some not-great experiences with other vets in Topeka, discovering this place has been a huge relief. We've taken both our dogs there and have been very happy with the facility, the friendliness of the staff and the level of service. When we had some follow-up questions about treatment Dr. Shipman was happy to talk with us at length over the phone - no need to come in for an appointment! The review is 4 stars instead of 5 because some of the prices seem a little high, but this is something we can work around for the sake of having a vet we trust.

Jerome and I would like to thank Heather and Dr. Blackwell for the compassion shown to us and Snoopy on Saturday. You two ladies really helped make a difficult decision and Snoopy's journey over the Rainbow bridge so much easier than we expected. We were not shown that compassion from our vet where we have been patients at for around 30 years. That showed us it was time to make a change. I moved to KS in 1992 and brought my puppy into Gage Animal Hospital (when it was still located on Gage). Dr. Shipman was so good with my dog and the staff was all very accommodating. I continued to go to Dr. Shipman at Gage Animal Hospital thru all these past years and the years yet to come. He has provided care to all 6 of my dogs over time including many surgeries, boarding, and providing specialty dog foods. When one dog needed a €new€ type of specialty surgery which necessitated taking my dog to K.C. Dr. Shipman coordinated with the other Vet and performed all the weeks of follow-up care so I didn€t need to return to K.C. Though I still miss Eve (his receptionist many years ago) Dr. Shipman has very caring and helpful staff. And now the addition of Dr. Blackwell is also a plus. She€s awesome!

Working in rescue, we sometimes have to get a dog into the vet without notice. Last night we rescued 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and took them straight to Gage and they got us right in and spent the time giving them full exams even though it took them past their closing time. They didn't rush through any part and explained any issues thoroughly with us. I highly recommend Dr. Blackwell and Dr. Shipman for your beloved pets. Thank you for all the work you do to help animals.

Very much enjoyed the old ownership at Gage Animal, however I have some concerns about the new ownership. To start, I called about my dogs vaccinations and pricing and was put on hold off and on for about 30 minutes before being told they would call me back with an estimate (ultimately I opted to receive an email which was provided). When I got the estimate there was a misunderstanding that I would be boarding my animals through Gage Animal ( I have 2 large dogs) and there were some additional things that needed to be done (which is understandable) what frustrated me was that there was a potential chard of $187 for flea tick and heartworm meds. Spike loves going there even if he getting shots or when he get clip lol. Best vet I ever had. I never had a dog that love going to the vet.

We would never take our dog anywhere else. This is Ellie's home away from home. When we board her we tell her she is going to visit "Uncle Rob" and have a sleepover.

After some not-great experiences with other vets in Topeka, discovering this place has been a huge relief. We've taken both our dogs there and have been very happy with the facility, the friendliness of the staff and the level of service. When we had some follow-up questions about treatment Dr. Shipman was happy to talk with us at length over the phone - no need to come in for an appointment! The review is 4 stars instead of 5 because some of the prices seem a little high, but this is something we can work around for the sake of having a vet we trust.

Jerome and I would like to thank Heather and Dr. Blackwell for the compassion shown to us and Snoopy on Saturday. You two ladies really helped make a difficult decision and Snoopy's journey over the Rainbow bridge so much easier than we expected. We were not shown that compassion from our vet where we have been patients at for around 30 years. That showed us it was time to make a change. We will be bringing Lulu and Bernie in soon to introduce them here. Thank you Heather and Dr. Blackwell for your empathy and compassion on Saturday. Jerome and I really appreciated your kindness! I moved to KS in 1992 and brought my puppy into Gage Animal Hospital (when it was still located on Gage). Dr. Shipman was so good with my dog and the staff was all very accommodating. I continued to go to Dr. Shipman at Gage Animal Hospital thru all these past years and the years yet to come. He has provided care to all 6 of my dogs over time including many surgeries, boarding, and providing specialty dog foods. When one dog needed a €new€ type of specialty surgery which necessitated taking my dog to K.C. Dr. Shipman coordinated with the other Vet and performed all the weeks of follow-up care so I didn€t need to return to K.C. Though I still miss Eve (his receptionist many years ago) Dr. Shipman has very caring and helpful staff. And now the addition of Dr. Blackwell is also a plus. She€s awesome!

Gage Animal Hospital is wonderful! They have been our vet--and our friends' vet--for years and years, and we've truly had nothing but terrific, above-and-beyond experiences with Dr. Shipman and all the staff at GAH. Their hearts are in everything they do, and our pets are very relaxed coming to their checkups--they know they are in good hands, literally!

Working in rescue, we sometimes have to get a dog into the vet without notice. Last night we rescued 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and took them straight to Gage and they got us right in and spent the time giving them full exams even though it took them past their closing time. They didn't rush through any part and explained any issues thoroughly with us. I highly recommend Dr. Blackwell and Dr. Shipman for your beloved pets. Thank you for all the work you do to help animals.
