Prairie Ridge Animal Hospital

We loved our boarding experience with Prairie Ridge! They give the dogs plenty of time to play outside during the day rather than having to be cooped up in a kennel all day long. It was so nice to get a photo of our dog each day so we could see she was having fun and enjoying herself. It is evident that the folks at Prairie Ridge actually care about animals and their wellbeing and happiness, as opposed to some kennels who are just out there to get your money and charge extra for all sorts of amenities. Here, those amenities are included because they know it’s what’s best for the puppies and that shouldn’t be an extra expense. All of the staff members we met were friendly and we especially loved Bethany, who was so kind to us on the phone and in-person and helped explain everything included. We were traveling when one of our dogs developed a problem with his eye. We stopped here to see if they could check him out. They were so courteous and quick to take him in and diagnose the problem. We absolutely LOVE Prairie Ridge. Dr. Summers is not only incredibly nice and caring, she is incredibly knowledgeable and makes it a point to inform you on all of your options without pushing for one over the other. She truly makes it a team sport to care for your animals. They are in the process of expanding their clinic to have some new exam rooms and another Doctor's office. The facilities are top notch. It isn't the best looking building on the outside, but we were blown away by the inside. While the veterinary assistants were looking after our dog, Dr. Summers showed us around the entire office, including the boarding kennels, the playgrounds, the lab, and the x-ray room. Everything was in excellent condition and very clean. We were particularly impressed with the kennel areas and the boarding programs available. There are only six kennels that are separated by solid metal so the dogs don't rile each other up. The dogs are allowed to bring their own beds and toys to make them feel comfortable. In addition, these kennels are staffed 24/7 by a dedicated staff who will even send you pictures of your dog while you're away. There are also two playgrounds, a large dog and a small dog. They will have your dog outside most of the day to play. They can take them out by themselves, but if your dog plays nice they will take them out in groups no larger than three. The staff also monitors your dogs bathroom habits to make sure they are eating and defecating properly. As I understand it, there is no additional charge to bring your pets own food. We also really love the payment plans here. Instead of having to pay upfront for several hundred dollars worth of shots, these shots and medications are spaced throughout the year. There is also a puppy plan that you can add on spay or neuter. There are additional discounts for dental work. They will tailor the plan to meet your dog's needs. Every single employee at Praire ridge is absolutely wonderful. We recently had to put our 12 year old golden retriever Sandy to sleep. They did everything they could do to make our dog comfortable during this time. My daughter wanted me there for her and I stayed by our dogs side next to a bed they had set up for her. They quietly talked me through the process and let me stay with her as long as i needed. I left with a clay pawprint to give to my daughter. We recently moved to the area and needed to find our fur baby a new vet as it was time for her check up. I am so happy I came across Prairie Ridge! We saw Dr. Simon who went above and beyond examining and explaining her findings to me. My cat was losing a significant amount of weight and my wife and I took him in to get him checked out. Dr. Summers quickly diagnosed the problem as a hyper active thyroid. She politely informed us that the thyroid produces chemicals that increase metabolism. She ordered some cream to slow down his metabolism. Now I just need to get some cream for my other cat, which is getting kinda chunky, that will make him lose weight! The staff there has always been super friendly to me EVERY time I come in there! You can't beat the care given by Prairie Ridge, the friendliness of the staff, nor the experience of the team! Dr Summers and her staff provided excellent Medical Care and boarding for my two fur babies!!! The clinic provides state-of-the-art Medical Care. Dr Summers even monitors from her home by live video dogs who have had surgical procedures! My 2 dogs when boarded them were able to share a luxury kennel together and I received a picture daily! I met dr summers through her sister , that meeting has had a profoundly positive impact on me . She helped me late one night say goodbye to my dear buddy Mr Riley. This is the best of both worlds the small town feel with the professional quality you want for your animal. I was impressed with the cleanliness of this facility. I was referred her for my dogs ultrasound and the veterinarian that helped me was patient and explained everything on each picture that she snapped of my baby dog. I highly recommend Prairie Ridge Animal Hospital! Our dog Hank, was having a foot issue last summer. We took him to our current vet at the time and after several visits, and calls, with no improvements I felt like it was time for a second opinion and that is when we called Prairie Ridge. The staff squeezed us in immediately that day to get his foot looked at. We were the last appointment for the day. After Dr. Summer looked him over, she believed that he had an embedded grass awn and wanted to do a quick surgery to remove it. Instead of making us wait to schedule an appointment and sending us home. Dr. Summers and some of her staff stayed late to do the surgery on Hank that night. They called me immediately when it was over and we got to pick him up and take him home all in the same day!! SO IMPRESSED with the quality of care and service we were treated to. Dr. Summers and her team went above and beyond, for the care of our dog. Needless to say we immediately switched over to Prairie Ridge as our primary vet provider, and never looked back. Each and every visit we have had with Dr. Summers and the whole team has been top notch! One last thing to mention that proves this clinic is the best in Wichita: Hank can be scared of Vet Clinics and gets a bit anxious in them. I try to show them they aren't always a scary place so I'll bring him in when our cat has an appointment. Dr. Summers picked up on this immediately, and took Hank for a walk around the clinic and had her staff members feed him treats the whole time! Their prices for vaccinations and examinations are double the price of other Vet Clinics.  I called around today to get a quote and could not believe what they charge $170 for my 2 dogs for just yearly vaccinations!  Friendly staff on the phone, but I was transferred to another person after explaining I was calling for a price quote, and had to explain again what I was calling for and all of my information a second time. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Everyone at Prairie Ridge is friendly and helpful. I brought my pug, Lew, here and after some nasty experiences at previous vets (what dog likes the vet?) I knew he'd be neevous, but he got his check up and was happy as could be, no anxiety or discomfort. I brought him back a little later for surgery on his teeth, and I told them I was leaving town soon. They squeezed me in and were willing and able to work with my budget. This is an excellent veterinarian clinic that I highly recommend. So thankful I found them on the west side. Dr. Summers and her staff have made us (and our pets) so comfortable with a loving, caring atmosphere in which there is no doubt that your pets well being comes first.Over the past 20 years I have experienced 5 different clinics on the west side. I have seen huge overcharges, unnecessary treatments (all to generate additional revenue) and a pompous arrogance from one clinic which made me wish I could have joined my dog and soiled their front lobby. So I don't normally do this but yesterday I had such great service I wanted to share. Yesterday morning our little rat Breeze woke up not her normal self. So due to a very upset 10 year-old I called around to find a vet that would see her (I know that sounds crazy). I found one that would see us right away . The vet did what she could but let us know that Breeze's little life was coming to an end. What the vet did next was the best, she suggested that my daughter take Breese home and spend time loving her. Also she and her staff made a paw impressions of Breeze's little feet for my daughter. We went home and shortly after that she passed away. While this was a sad time, Maddie is very thankful for the impression the office made for her and will cherish it forever. When we found Dr. Melanie we had a very sick kitty(Shadow). Dr Melanie was so great, she did everything possible for our furry family member. She even took him home one night! It was always heartfelt care that she demonstrated with him and us. Although Shadow's illness ended up being FTP which is uncurable and he did pass, Melanie made sure he was comfortable and gave him every chance imaginable. I can not imagine going through that with any other Dr. She made our family feel special every single visit. She is so knowledgeable about animals. Even though I was amazed at the knowledge she distributed, ...they just can't teach the other qualities she has! It was not unusual for her to come running in from an emergency call in the field or a vacination trip with smelly shoes and a great big smile; she loves her work! She always wore a smile that made you feel like you were welcome in her office. Although we miss her and wish she would come back to Atchison, we know she will serve her clinic well.
