We were very happy with what Skaer Vet charged us recently when we needed to board Ozzie after a knee surgery. And most importantly we didn’t have to worry because we could trust that he was getting the care we knew he needed and being watched in case something developed that we didn’t know he needed. Overall, I was not impressed and won't be back. First, the positives. They have a beautiful, spacious facility and very convenient hours of operation. Their customer service, in terms of politeness and thoughtfulness, is top notch. I train customer service skills for a living and know good service when I see it. However, these aren't the only aspects of customer service. I made the appointment for my young cat when a cough continued to worsen for nearly a week. He had stopped playing and even refused a meal. My usual vet couldn't fit him in so I chose Skaer on a friend's recommendation. Dr. Brownlee didn't even finish the initial exam because when she touched a spot on his abdomen, my cat instantly reacted poorly. My cat was doing not just "fine," but "great," up to that point. When I got her report, it said "No tenderness is apparent during palpation." I have very little tolerance for dishonesty in any medical professional. But, my first indication that I had made a mistake in choosing this vet was when she had the audacity to attempt to capitalize on my worry to up-sell me with $650 in x-rays (or a "low price" option of $350). Moreover, she didn't have the spine to present her folly herself, but instead sent in an assistant to present it. I felt like I did when I was at my FORMER car mechanic's shop, when I'd go in for an oil change and then he'd recommend a new transmission. Worse yet, when the quote was included with my paperwork, it had been altered to show both the low price and high price options as $310. More dishonesty. All my cat needed was some antibiotics and within two days, the cough was gone and he was back to his old self. BOTTOM LINE: There are lots of good vets in Wichita - consider alternatives before visiting Dr. Brownlee. Read Less

WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD! My dog was diagnosed with disk disease and put on two medications (i.e. prednisone and buprenex) by Dr. Brownlee. After taking the medications, he started crying/whining non-stop almost the entire day for 4 days. I took him back to Skaer two different times and explained he was crying non-stop and we was not doing this before taking the medications. The only solutions that were provided was that I give him additional medications and start thinking about euthanizing him. I WAS DEVASTATED! I explained to Dr. Brownlee that I was very concerned that she continues to suggest I think about euthanizing him before suggesting weaning him off the current medications and trying different medications. After leaving Skaer, I immediately took him to the emergency vet, and had them look over all his lab work and explained what I was told. After an examination and a review of his lab work, they didn't agree that he should be euthanized and suggested I begin weaning him off the buprenex. I did that and he has been fine ever since. I went to Skaer for a second opinion several years ago. The previous vet wanted to "bandaid" the problem but Dr. Skaer was aggressive from the get go. I love that about her; she does everything in her power to get to the bottom of the health problem. When it was time to say goodbye to my boy, she was there for me any time of the day. Since then, my other pets have experienced a lot of bad luck with their health, but the Skaer Team has been my rock! The girls at the front desk are incredible! I went to another vet near my house after adopting a dog and found the vet not to be very friendly toward my new forever friend. This is the only place any of my animals will go. Dr. Skaer is amazing. When I went in to see her it was shaping up to be one of the worst days, but her and her whole team calmed me as much as they calmed my dog. The whole staff was informative and friendly. My dog has two moms and that didn't phase anyone there which is a relief in itself. A week later and my dog is back to his self again! Very friendly and informative vets and vet techs. I have two Pyrenees and they can be expensive dogs to upkeep. The employees there always give me cost options and if need be, when I know it's going to be a hefty bill, they'll quote out the work first and give me best cost options. Great vet clinic! Read Less

I have a 8 year old Maltese that developed diabetes over a year ago. My two cats have very different personalities, and the veterinarian as well as the technician were excellent with both of them and did everything they could to make sure they were as comfortable as possible. I also brought my guinea pig to them to get his nails trimmed. The technicians did an excellent job with him as well. Chris, and before Chris, her father Bill, have taken care of my pets for over 30 years. Chris has taken me through the joys and heartbreak of loving and eventually losing 4 very special companion animals. I suspect that the hardest thing a vet ever has to do is help a human being walk their beloved animal companions over the Rainbow Bridge. The Skaer vet clinic, including the support staff, are incredibly respectful and caring during that painful time. During the good times, they provide knowledgeable care and advice, and truly share your joy. Chris is extremely knowledgable, but even more important than that, she looks up the answers or consults with a specialist if she doesn't know the answer herself. My Dog hates hard surface floors. The staff kept moving rugs to accommodate her fear. They made her feel loved and made my Son and I feel very comfortable. Didn't try to jab us with unnecessary expenses and we left happy. They also trimmed my dogs nails and that is a chore. Highly recommend. Read Less

Dr. Skaer was so amazing, very attentive to my dogs but also addressed my husband & me & our questions. She even did research & printed it out for us. Talked to us about preventative care without putting pressure on us. Costs are all upfront which I appreciate. My dogs have had health issues in the past so I felt very secure that they are in the best hands. Best part of our visit was our tech named Christopher. My dogs take a while to warm up to strangers but hit off w/ him & Dr Skaer right away. One of my dogs was visibly shaking during her exam until Christopher just nuzzled her so affectionately & she stopped. She melted in his arms. You can tell he is a true animal lover and very knowledgable. He gave just as much care and attention to my other dog. Great service from front desk to exit.
