My dachshund/beagle mix had been acting strangely for a day and a half before I realized he hadn't made any bowel movements for a while, and when he started vomiting I realized he needed help right away. My normal vet was closed on weekends, so I went to the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital of Wichita just south of Kellogg on Washington that I had only heard of recently, and to make a long story short, two vets and a radiologist agreed there was some sort of blockage in his intestines that they needed to remove, and they did it the surgery professionally and with lots of care and smiles for me and my dog. My daughter's kitten was suffering from toxicity. I took her to my normal veterinarian not realizing what she was suffering from as I hadn't seen her get into anything poisonous. When he told me what was wrong with her and that we would need to take her here, I was skeptical. The veterinarian that examined her was extremely quick with both her diagnosis and with deciding the best treatment option. Before we said yes or no, she gave us a detailed estimate. Being as it was my daughter's kitten and something that I knew we couldn't treat at home, my husband and I bit the bullet and put her in for treatment. She was ready to go home the next day. When we came to pick her back up, the front staff remembered exactly who we were and who our pet was. I was shocked with that alone because of how busy the clinic is. They made sure to get as much ready as they could so we weren't waiting too long. I was further shocked that the bill came out to be on the low end of the estimate. Yes, the bill was high, but for the treatment that she received I know that we paid a reasonable amount. Rosie was happy to be home that night and has been her playful self since. I was worried when we first picked her up but by day two of her being home all signs of toxicity is gone. I only wish that the veterinarian we saw had her own clinic so that we could use her for all of our veterinary needs. I will be taking our animals there with future emergencies. Read Less

We LOVE this place! We used their emergency services and their office hours. All of the receptionist were so nice to us and even went back and played with our dog during his stay. Each tech we had was wonderful and answered all of our questions. We saw Dr. Alex Brooks-Shrauth during our ER visit and Dr. Holly Smith to do our surgery and check-ups. They both were so helpful, constantly answering questions we had and ones we didn’t know we had. My puppy had to stay for 2 nights and I called many times to check up on him and was able to talk to Dr. Smith directly each time! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Read Less

This is honestly one of the WORST pet hospitals around. Being a 24 hour emergency vet clinic should NOT only offer care for cats and dogs, especially when you are the only 24 hour vet in Wichita!! And the woman who answers the phone very obviously has no concern for your pet even if you are calling because it's an EMERGENCY at the EMERGENCY VET CLINIC. You can't even offer advice on how to help my pet? You can't even take a look and see if you can tell me what's wrong with him? Just so he doesn't DIE??? If I could give this 0 stars I would, and if I could fire the woman working the front desk tonight - I would. As far as quality of care goes for your animal you probably couldn't get better care anywhere else. However due to the high cost of the initial visit and the doubled expenses for other veterinarian services at this location most people will be put in a horrible situation of not being able to help their pet if they don't have good credit or extra funds. There is no doubt in my mind that if I had been able to afford to use the service here I would have been able to save the life of one of my pet. The cost to have kept my pet there for 24 hours was the same cost as keeping my pet at my vet for 3 days for 24-hour service. I think it's unfortunate that there is not some type of funds available or a system like the ASPCA set up here to help people when there is an emergency need with your pet. A city this size should be able to provide some type of agency that could provide quality Veterinarian Service when it is needed for an emergency situation for people who may not have adequate funds or excellent credit to apply for credit care. I think many people realize that if they are in a position where this is their only option to take their pet and they know that they do not have the funds to cover more than the office visit that they're looking at most likely having to put their pet down unfortunately. I realize no business can run on charity but I would think this particular business would offer additional options besides Credit Care.Read Less

I took my dog in to be seen because my three year old granddaughter dropped her while taking her down stairs. I simply wanted an x-ray to see if she had broken her leg because she was limping. I waited for THREE hours and watched as other people waiting were seen before I was able to finally get a room. I asked at one point when I would get a room and they looked at the time I arrived and was shocked to see that I had been there for two hours. At that same time a crazy woman came in and started threatening me and the other people in the waiting room. When she went out to smoke a cigarette, they let her back in. I finally got a room and I waited for 30 minutes and heard the crazy woman again. At that point I decided to leave and take my dog to the vet the next morning. I am not pleased with the way I was treated at all!!! Read Less

What a great resource for us to have in this little town. We had to make an emergency visit on THANKSGIVING day when our elderly cat was injured in an accident. Luckily the injury wasn't life-threatening, but she did require a stitches. They also gave her an antibiotic treatment and pain medication. Without 24-hour services, we might have had to wait for five days to have our cat treated. She very likely could have developed an infection or further aggravated her wound. The veterinarian's at this clinic helped save our cat a lot of pain and suffering. The services we're much more affordable than I expected. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone with an animal emergency. It's in kind of a rough area of town, but it's a nice central location that is accessible to pretty much anyone -- which no doubt saves lives. Read Less

I went 10/10/10..when I got there..I rang the bell.No one came. A customer let me in. The lady at the desk finally returned. I got my little yorkie (6 yrs old) registered. She told me they was running a little behind. That didn't bother me.My baby was sick. So we waited. while we waited 2 people left. That should of been a red flag.We finally got in a room 45 minutes later.20 minutes later a nurse came in.30 minutes later a dr. came in for less than 1 minute. he read what the nurse wrote. didn't ask me anything.told me there would be someone coming in to tell me the cost.well Cory came in wanted half of 500.00..I signed to do this.the hospital feels cold and very uncaring. they seem not to care. you know that feeling you get in your stomache, thats this not right. well I had it.I asked coryif someone is always there to take care of my girl.to watch her. and pet her a few times..He asured me ""always"" well...He told me he would be right back..after 30 minutes my gut feeling was getting way worse..So I went out the to desk..she was on phone saying she was getting off in 30 minutes.(a personal call) and 5 people was waiting at the desk..I went out to cool off with my girl..went back in and she was still on phone and e1 was still in line..I turned around and left !! Cory called me 20 minutes later and told me he was sorry..to please bring my dog back..he then begged (and he used that word) I told asked him if this is how they theat they animals..after I asked him at the office about the care..He bragged bout the hospital..e1 loves them..they tend to all animals etc..blah blah blah..atfer 10 minutes of his begging and pleading..I told him I was getting some chicken broth and pedialyte and taking care of her myself till i take her to her dr in the morning..Heres what was wrong with her..she was throwing up blood (LOTS) and pooping blood to..she was dehidrating also..while in the room she vomitted twice..I went to get help and a tech came in..wiped it and cleaned the area..acted like so what..I thought they would at least take a sample..she put the bind next to me if my dog would throw up again..Very very very very very cold person..cold place..uncaring...push u through or forget bout you..all Cory was worried is he lost 600.00 for his hospital..Please don't waste your time or your pets time and go here..If your pet is worse than mine..and by the time they get there to you..I hate to say this..but your pet might be dead..and they will still want the money..I will be turning them in to the vet. association today !!

So thanks for being absolutely useless in the one reason you're open - 24 HOUR EMERGENCY PET CARE Read Less

Read Less

It is the only 24 hour vet in the area.  So if you have no choice then go. Veterinarian we saw was knowledgeable and kind. Wait time was awful....almost 5 HOURS! X-ray, blood work, and some medication then on to see our regular vet in the morning. Again - it's the only choice for 24hr care, and you pay for it with your time and wallet. It is quality care, if you absolutely need it. Read Less

They are more expensive than a regular vet and some of the wait times are outrageous (for the pet parents, not the pet). Had to take my cat here many times, they did a great job of treating her and it's an amazing resource to have.  I've had maybe 6 visits here, average wait time according to my experiences has been 2-3 hours in the waiting room however the pets are checked in as soon as possible, if not immediately.

I never have wrote a reveiw..but I had to ...I don't want anyone to go through what me and my babygirl went through..she was so sick.....they didn't care..I am very mad and hurt by this vet hospital.
