The staff seems nice, but it's almost as if they're forcing it.. That said, they do have good customer service. But, that doesn't make up for the over-priced everything..
I recently switched Vets because of all the good reviews Erlanger Veterinary Hospital had.. Today I realized that we were better off with her previous Vet. But before I get to today, let me recap my previous visit..
So, a couple of weeks ago I had decided to get a second opinion on a small growth on my Dog's shoulder and one on her belly. The original Vet took a blood sample from both. The one on her shoulder ended up being a cyst, and the other was a small removable tumor. Our Vet said that the cyst wasn't necessary to remove, and that the tumor will eventually need to go.. But we didn't have to rush because it wasn't anywhere harmful. So, they quoted the removal of BOTH cyst & tumor, along with draining/suturing a Hematoma on her ear ALL for roughly $780.
Moving on to Erlanger Veterinarian Hospital.. I go for a 2nd opinion and I got more than I bargained for.. So, they charged more than my previous Vet, but I thought it may be worth it with all the reviews. Anyway, they take a blood culture of both the cyst and tumor.. When they comeback they had different results... For a moment... So, the Vet told me that both of them were cancerous tumors and needed to be removed.. They quoted the removal at a little over $1,000, and that's WITHOUT the draining/suturing of the Hematoma..
Here's the best part.. After they gave me the quote, I had mentioned that the other Vet said the bump on her shoulder wasn't a tumor, but was a cyst.. The Vet then stumbles over her words and ends up saying something along the lines of ..
"Well it is a cyst, but that doesn't mean that it can become cancerous later."
I'm confident that she also tried to say something about traces of pre-cancerous cells.. Which I find odd because before they took the blood, both the Vet and Nurse told us that the method they used wasn't always the most accurate.. But accurate enough to see pre-cancerous cells? Come on now.. They really lost credibility with that move..
My final mistake was actually letting them drain my Dog's ear and bandage it up.. Now I realize that I should have just let my original Vet do it all for $750... I call Erlanger Veterinarian Hospital and tell them EXACTLY what she has(they saw her previously, so they knew her hematoma history) and needed done. They said to bring her in and they will get it drained and set.. So I take her, they drain it and bandage her up.. Then they bring me a bill for over $350.. They charged me for "a Check-Up," and then for her ear.. There really was no check-up.. They didn't take her weight, listen to her heart, check her teeth or paws.. Yet they charged me for it..
Now let me tell you about their money hungry tactics.. First off, I told the nurse 3 times that I already had ear drops for her.. That didn't stop her from pressing the issue.. "You sure? In case you run out.." In most English speaking cultures the word "No," means... umm.. "No."
Finally, the way they bandaged my Dog's ear up pretty much guaranteed that it would come off, which I would have to then take her and have them put a new bandage on.. Which didn't seem like a big deal when I was in the room. They sure made it seem as though it wasn't a problem and honestly came off as a complimentary service.. Turns out that the only way they will Re-Bandage her ear is if I purchase a bandage from Erlanger Veterinarian Hospital for $50.. When I asked about bringing my own bandage and the Nurse or Vet bandage her ear they say they won't do it because I didn't buy their bandage.. Sorta sad.. I didn't even bother to ask them how much they were going to charge to put the bandage on PROPERLY.. So, I just went to the drug store and got the EXACT same kind of bandage for a whole $6... Now I have her ear bandage to where she can't shake it off. Something Erlanger Veterinary Hospital couldn't do correctly the first time I paid..
