Almost a year ago I had to put my Lab down after 15yrs. They took real good care of us made sure we had our time to say goodbye. My dog recently got her TTA surgery at Elk Creek Animal Hospital by Dr. Shelley (about 1 week ago). From the initial exam through the post-surgery pickup I have nothing but positive things to say about this facility and their staff. Anytime I call with post-surgery questions, the receptionists are eager to help, and Dr. Shelley even returned one of my calls personally to answer a question the receptionist wasn't sure on. Not only do they keep your dog for a couple of days after the surgery to insure the beginning healing process, it is also one of the most reasonably priced for this surgery in the area with no fluff or hidden costs! Although it is a bit of a drive from my home in Southern IN, it has been so worth it, and I could not be happier to have had been recommended to Dr. Shelley to care for my boxer. Read Less

I took my sweet baby King to Elk Creek yesterday and it was the most wonderful experience in the most heart breaking time. I drove 45 minutes to this place because it was recommended to me and I am so glad I did. Dr. Shelly was so sweet and understanding and made my decision to let my dog go so much easier. There are truly no words that can explain how truly wonderful Dr. Shelly and the staff is. I didn't want to let King go until my husband got there and they were closing but I didn't even realize they were closing until after it was all said and done and I walked out and everything was dark. Been going to Dr Shelly just about since he opened in Elk Creek with my Bassett hound Lucy. He is Absolutely awesome. Today (8-10-16) I took my new pup in for a check up, shots, grooming etc.. and met with a diffrent Dr. Dr. Joni. She was, as everything else at Elk Creek animal has ever been, absolutly awesome. She got down on the floor to check him out, played with him not only took care of his needs, but also offered expert advise. As an extra bonus she is much prettier that Dr.Shelly. lol. I'm not a regular client here.  My male dog needed knee surgery and with careful research, I looked into all his options ranging from top-of-the-line specialized to the somewhat lower ranked but still fairly reliable types of surgeries.  I got quotes from several clinics, I talked to friends and coworkers etc. I ended up taking my boy to Elk Creek after a combination of information- a friend who raved about their personalized caring service for her parvo puppy (survived and healthy now) to talking to Dr. Shelley about his experience with that specific surgery and yes, the cost. They were very accommodating to my questions and happy to give detailed information on things like his blood work, not just "he's fine" but showing the results of the test and explaining what everything meant.  His surgical incision was very neat and carefully stapled, his bruising and swelling surprisingly minimal.  He didn't eat or drink much while he was kenneled there but I fully expected that as he is not kennel or crate trained and I warned them in advance.  They do not have overnight staffing which is fine IMO for something like a spay/neuter or ortho surgery but for more intensive care cases, a 24/7 vet is costly but provides that additional level of supervision and care. He's healing well but only time will tell how much the surgery helped him.  However, that I know is an issue with the surgery in general for a large dog like him and not related to the skill of the doctor.   I cannot rate them on their regular services like check-ups and vaccines and it is a bit of a trip from Louisville so I won't be switching to them for regular services as I have a very good vet here in town still.  I would however say that they are a great option for affordable and caring vet servicesAs a general tip, check out street view to find this location as it is set back from the road and shares a driveway with a gas station so it can be very hard to find if you are unfamiliar with the area.  The street address is Fisherville but it's at the junction of KY 155 and KY 55 so if you're coming from the Gene Snyder in L'ville, you'd head towards Taylorsville. I have 3 dogs that go to this vet clinic. It takes me 45 minutes to drive there, but they are the best! The vets take time with you and do not rush with you or their pet. I know I can go to this vet office and my dogs will be properly diagnosed and not be overcharged for the service. I fully trust my dogs with the group of veterinarians. Read Less
