This past week I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my 8 week old Great Dane puppy down. She started limping late this past week, and she eventually refused to walk or get up at all. I also have two small kids so I was unsure if she accidentally got hurt by then while playing, so I gave her about a day or so to see if she would improve or not. After taking her to this vet's office and consenting to an x-ray; we found out that her hip sockets for far too big for her hips to fit in, the gap between her shin bone and her thigh bone was unusually large, and also she had never develops kneecaps. The vet informed me that this issue would only worsen as Diamond (the puppy) grows and put on weight, as she would have been truly not be able to support her weight on her hind legs. Now when I first got her she had a severe case of roundworms, we had to get treated a couple of times for them to be completely gone. She was malnourished from the worms so she was very small for her age. A Great Dane puppy at 8 weeks old should white way quite a bit more than 8 pounds. When I got her she was hardly pushing 5 lb and it seemed that as she was putting on weight at home she started having an issue walking. So you can imagine that if she was already having an issue walking from Gaining just 3lb what it would be like for a dog that's supposed to get up to 180 lb. So we made the decision to have her put down instead of living in pain. The vet at this office was very informed, she did a great job explaining the situation to me and she was also very compassionate with the decision to euthanize. I am also not sure if maybe they worked out a deal with me and just did not say it regarding the situation and everything. They knew of course that it was an 8 week old puppy that I just got, they knew that the puppy cost $550. But with a fecal test, the X-ray, the vet's office visit, Radiology, cost of euthanasia and burial came to $180. I thought that the vet visit would be way more than that, so they are very reasonable in price. I know that I visited a vet's office in Evansville and spent about a hundred on a vet's office that didn't cover any of those tests at all and was just an office visit and spent a hundred. My youngest daughter was also there who is not always exactly well-behaved, and they even showed great patience with her. Thank you for being so understanding of my family's situation. Read Less
