The majority of visits to veterinary clinics begin with clients explaining how their pets are moving slowly, skipping food, scratching a lot, and acting differently. Veterinarians begin by examining factors such as body weight, joint movement, oral health, respiratory patterns, coat and skin condition, and behavior. The whole set of findings is documented and discussed to give owners a clear picture of what is normal, what is new for their pet, or what might warrant monitoring and follow-up. Sheabel Veterinary Hospital offers a broad range of preventive services, such as vaccinations, lab testing, dental cleanings, nutritional planning, and parasite control. They also provide chronic care support for conditions like allergies, arthritis, and metabolic issues. Every appointment is an opportunity to follow up on previous recommendations and set new goals. Things to consider in order to identify opportunities to improve the pet’s quality of life include age, breed, and home environment factors (e.g., lifestyle changes, seasonal needs, behaviors). Pet owners leave the clinic with detailed summaries of the next steps, such as treatment implementation and monitoring, timelines for expected changes, follow-up appointments, or medical record access (e.g., records or medication advice). ### Hectic Schedules (Multiple Pets/Senior Pet) Families constantly juggling multiple commitments or those with several pets can request for reasonable pacing of appointments, telehealth services where applicable, and detailed veterinary logs to stay ahead. Sheabel Veterinary Hospital provides reliable services throughout Lexington and Kentucky by ensuring proper care for every issue, from minor ailments to major life stage transitions.

I see a lot of 1 star rating about this place because of cost. Well, as a family who has 17 year old chihuahua puppy with a heart condition , we will only go to Sheabel. The quality of care that my little best friend receives is unparalleled. The staff at Sheabel - medical, grooming, boarding, client care - are outstanding. Dr. Jude is exceptional, helping my 13-year old dachshund with an unusual disease after several other vets failed to do so. Dr. Jude and the nursing staff have also helped care for a sick puppy I recently adopted. He is now thriving. The veterinary care is nothing short of excellent. In fact, the entire staff are professional and treat my pup as if he were family. I've had pets for 15 years and moved to Lexington recently. Sheabel is the best pet care place I have ever found. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Read Less

I have a 10 and a half year old boxer. Like most boxers, in his old age he does have some skin growths. He's had a couple small growths on his front elbow for years, and this week they decided to open up and bleed all over my house. Dr. Mary Mattingly and her team at Sheabel took great care of my dog and got those spots as well as many other removed. They worked him into surgery the same day I brought him in when other vets told me I would have to wait until at least Tuesday. Since he was bleeding all over my house this was not an option. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for pet care. Read Less

We recently adopted our first puppy and needed to find a veterinarian.  We found this place through a work recommendation and we have been very, very happy with the doctors, the staff and the services offered.  They are always very up front with any costs.  We particularly love the grooming services or I should say our puppy really loves the grooming services!  I love that I can drop her off for the grooming appointment and come back later to a puppy that acts like she had the greatest time ever.  I highly recommend Sheabel! This is my first time owning a pet. It was the first time my wife owned a pet of her own. We searched the internet for a good vet. We would definitely recommend Sheabel. Our vet and staff where very friendly. They did the exam and looked at her precious medical history. They then came back with a list of suggested exams and vaccines recommended and answered any questions we had. She even left the room and let me and my wife discuss it which was nice. The Vet was very friendly with our cat. She answered every question we had and made us feel less worried about our cat. I would highly recommend this place. Read Less

Would not recommend if you care at all about your pet. I took my English Bulldog Hogan there last Wednesday and he was diagnosed with arthritis and hypothyroidism and sent home with prescriptions and a followup scheduled 5 days later. 2 days later took him back and saw a different vet who immediately (and correctly this time) diagnosed him with heart failure and he passed away 5 hours later at MedVet emergency pet center. Had he been correctly diagnosed and treated the first time he would still be here and not sent home and expected to suffer for 5 days until his followup. Read Less

Overpriced and still haven't received answers after paying $400 for an x-ray and pain medicine (it's been 5 days). Every staff member was extremely rude. Had stuff put on my bill that I was not made aware of or asked for. Took to my regular vet Monday for answers, $75 for the same exact service i was given and given answers and plan of action within 5 minutes of the x-ray. We have been going to Sheabel for over a year now for our two dogs.  Dr Kimmer has been our go-to doctor there and she is wonderful.  She will get down on the floor with your pup to make their experience more comfortable.  You can tell Dr. Kimmer really enjoys what she does, which creates a better experience for the pet and owner. Also, this location (from my experience) does not over-sell/over-diagnose the average pet owner.  This is a problem at most vets and I have yet to experience that here.  The office staff is friendly as well and they usually can take appointments in the same week.I recommend this vet along with Dr. Kimmer to pet owners everywhere. We've been going to Sheabel for over 6 years and our dogs have had exceptional care. We are always treated with respect and our dogs are treated with lots of TLC. We recently lost one of our beloved dogs, Muffy, to cancer at age 15. Dr. Jude came to our home to help Muffy transition out of her pain. I adopted a Bearded Collie and needed a dependable grooming service for him. I saw the stars on yelp for Sheabel and gave them a try. I am SO glad I did! We met Stacy Duncan who is CHARMING and who my furry guy adores. He was fearful at first, but subsequent visits prove that she has him committed to their ongoing relationship. Is it expensive? Yes. But I took this guy on knowing he'd need a little more attention than a dog I'd had from puppy stage. AND, Sheabel is worth every penny. I've never worried about how my dog is going to look, behave or smell when he came home. He's always been great.  Another great quality Sheabel has is that they can get me in fairly quickly.  That's a huge plus! Read Less

They took $600.00 from us last night after treating our dog and then called today to tell us to never come back. Our dog has outstanding tests and treatments which we will now have to pay another vet to finish. I have epilepsy and had a seizure in their establishment. Because it was not a tonic-clonic (grand mal) the office manager Jamie nor the owner believed us. Jaime Curry told my husband that I did not have epilepsy. She felt as though my doctor misdiagnosed me and I was in fact bi-polar. They banned us from their facility because the manifestation did not meet what they thought they knew about epilepsy and seizures. I tried to put information on their page to prove there are over 40 different seizure types and manifestations but they removed it. Here it is again so hopefully they will understand that they are wrong. From nih gov "Epilepsy can be accompanied by changes in cognition, personality, affect, and other elements of behavior. There is no single epileptic constitution or personality complex. A unifying theme to the behavior in epilepsy is diversity. As one looks at the behavioral traits reported in epilepsy, a specific and consistent pattern is lacking. Rather, extremes of behavior are accentuated: sometimes in one direction, often in both directions. Changes in emotional state are prominent among behavioral features in epilepsy. Some authors describe a prominent deepening or increase in emotionality, whereas others identify a global decrease in emotional life and content. Emotional lability is also reported. Sexuality and libido are typically decreased, but fetishism, transvestism, exhibitionism, and hypersexual episodes also occur. Concerns over morality may be lacking or exaggerated. Patients may be irritable and aggressive or timid and apathetic. The impressive list of people with epilepsy in politics, religion, arts, and sciences suggests a positive expression of this behavioral spectrum. Psychosis, depression, paranoia, and personality disorders may represent a negative pole of epilepsy-related behavioral changes. The most important aspect of behavioral changes in epilepsy for physicians is to recognize and treat dysfunctional behavior. Depression is a common problem that is often unrecognized and untreated. Other treatable problems include impotence, anxiety, panic attacks, and psychosis. Identifying risk factors will, it is hoped, assist in developing methods to prevent these disorders."Read Less

Sheabel doctors, nurses, grooming, kennel and ALL Per Care Staff provide THE BEST PET CARE; PERIOD! I've been going to Sheabel since 1995 and they have yet to let me down. I recently lost my big baby Medusa, and English Mastiff. Her illness came on suddenly and I lost her within 2 weeks of her diagnosis. She spent her last 3 days at Sheabel (she wasn't eating or drinking), trying one last time to get her blood count back up; the staff would come in on their days off, just to check on her. Dr. Jude updated me constantly, and Dr. Tugel (previously with Sheabel) was also consulted about Medusa; Those are the kinds of compassionate, dedicated and caring people who work at Sheabel! My dogs use the Pet Taxi service to go back and forth, for their boarding appointments (often for weeks at a time), and when the van pulls up and they see that Sheabel staff person walk into the backyard, they get so excited that they forget that I exist! My dogs are extremely comfortable at Sheabel and love going there! I'm down to 2 dogs now (from 5) and with the recent passing of my big baby, the 2 that had to board at Sheabel over Christmas for a week, got the special attention they needed since the staff were aware that they may get depressed knowing that their sister was no longer around. I can't say enough great things about Sheabel... They are honest, caring, dedicated, trustworthy and professional. Leaving Lexington, KY, is not an option for me because the relationship I have with Sheabel and the care my dogs receive, is most important. Sheabel is simply the best there is out there. Read Less

Sheabel was always my first choice for everything that I had to do with my dog since the very first day I adopted him. The receptionists and the vets, specifically Dr. Kimmerer and Dr. Arnold are vey helpful and friendly. This is all the good part. After some changes in the staff, I took the dog for day care. The associate behavior was completely UNPROFESSIONAL and out of place trying to force the leash on the dog without any care or friendliness. Of course the one-year old dog got aggressive seeing a complete stranger forcing a leash on him. Needless to say, the dog bit the associate. From then on, "will bite" notes were on his file while the unprofessional handling led to the incident. Also, I took the dog out of kennel by myself and saw the big "do not walk" sign on the cage door while they are SUPPOSED to walk the dogs on boarding/day care. The last time I put my dog on boarding, I asked for a nail trim as well. The next day when I took him home, there were two same SCARS on both sides of his face like a leash or strap was forced on his face and he had BLOOD on both sides. Being very upset, I took him back for a visit and explanation. Not only they DID NOT APOLOGIZE for what happened and the inconvenience, they did not want to take responsibility for the obvious happening. They even wanted to charge me for the treatment that they were suppose to provide due to their LACK OF PROPER CARE. I did not took the treatment and asked for all the medical history to switch to another facility. In short, I am very UPSET and UNSATISFIED with the care and costumer service that I received from Sheabel and my dog also has TWO SCARS on his face now due to whatever they have done to him. I STRONGLY suggest to RECONSIDER your choice before going to Sheabel. Read Less

Read Less

Our vet and staff where very friendly. They did the exam and looked at her precious medical history. They then came back with a list of suggested exams and vaccines recommended and answered any questions we had. She even left the room and let me and my wife discuss it which was nice.

Read Less
