The practices at Southland Vet have gotten considerably worse through the COVID-19 pandemic. They seem overworked, underserved, and lackadaisical. They diagnosed my pet with an ear infection after 3 separate visits (and no noticeable infection in the ear) before needing to take the dog to a second vet who diagnosed him with a neurological condition.
Once the neurologist was visited, Southland would not provide the blood work results they took three days earlier to the specialist and failed to respond to phone calls or emails. In the end, the dog had a brain tumor and was dead within one month.
The slow movement and apparent lack of actual checking on the dog during an over 8 hour visit after he began showing significant symptoms of blindness and inability to walk in a straight line did not provide us any comfort in the quick death of our pet.
There are lots of vets in Lexington. Don't go to Southland.

The Southland Vet Clinic staff and Dr. Hardigree have cared for my cats for over twenty years. Their love and compassion for animals is evident in everything they do. One of my cats, who has since passed on, was a wonderfully sweet animal when she was at home, but turned into "a puma with a bad attitude" whenever she visited the vet. Even with her, they were patient, understanding and kind.

The staff gave me and my new blind doggie the best care. Very fair pricing. After my poor dog passed, (after a pretty short life), they helped me send her to a better place. Then in the mail, I received a sympathy card, signed by all the staff, saying how sorry they were for our loss, etc. it was touching and shows that they care about animals and their people!!

This is just another chance to thank the "Pretty Ladies" as we have always refer to the women at Southland Veterinary Hospital. The Pie Dog (AKA escape artist ) was a guest there last week while most of the neighborhood was out frantically screaming and hunting for a crazy beagle-- while she was laying in the lap of luxury with her friends down on Southland Dr.. Thank you for calling so many times (on the home phone ) to find us while we were out and for the care you showed several years ago when my other dog Lucky was lost in a snowstorm and you were instrumental in helping me find her. This is the only vet for us .

Southland Veterinary Hospital could not have been more accommodating when our dog needed emergency care. They were very helpful and welcoming despite the fact that we had no appointment and were first time visitors to the hospital. When our dog continued to need follow up care, they went above and beyond to help him get better. The price was more than fair and the provided care was above average.

They do not have the time to see emergencies and are overpriced. They never gave me a reminder call/txt/ or email so i had to call myself to confirm. The first impression was great but the follow ups were dissapointing especially after all these 5 star reviews. Would not recommend this office especially if your pet ever has an emergency.

Have taken both our dogs here their entire lives and will never go elsewhere. Our lab required reconstructive knee surgery after an accident on some steps, and these wonderful ladies did not only the surgery (which was great and well priced ) but provided all the follow up care too. They provide grooming services, boarding, spaying/neutering, anal-gland expulsion, and top of the line services like laser-guided arthritis treatments. Always friendly and helpful staff, and very willing to help squeeze in an appointment in a pinch. You will not regret taking your 4 legged family member here!

We are new, and really loved our last vet in IL, so chosing one in KY was not a simple decision. Both of our dogs are very comfortable at Southland. The staff is is open, understanding, and very kind. They are understanding when you need a last minute appointment, and really communicate. We are lucky to have found such a wonderful vet.

I am continually grateful for the staff at Southland Veterinary Hospital. The times I have endured the gradual demise of a pet, the staff has revealed a considerable heart for my dear dog while considering my financial limitations. By the same token, Dr. Hardigree didn't hesitate to recommend a possible resource in Dr. Applewhite of Metropolitan Specialists as a consult for my ""once in a lifetime dog"" who left this world shortly before her thirteenth birthday. Dr. Applewhite was able to perform a procedure that allowed my girl to enjoy an additional two years of life. (Prior to this, she was unable to even stand or walk.) More importantly, I am continually amazed at the fact that the veterinarians at Southland are committed to sound, research based practices while promoting the ""least invasive approach"" at all times. Our family feels quite fortunate to have such expertise just a phone call away or a 5 minute drive from home. PS This clinic demands continuous training of staff. Simply amazing.

My husband and I have lived in Lexington going on 9 years now. Bringing our 4 cats from California was one of the most important parts to the move and finding a great vet clinic was at the top of our list when we settled in. It took a bit of research and speaking to other people before we chose Southland and never once have I ever been disappointed with the care we have received. I have never felt rushed or intimidated when we have gone in for visits....(and I tend to ask TONS of questions). We have also taken many animals who needed some extra help and have never been turned away or told they were too busy and didn't have the time. These are doctors ad staff who, above all, care about the animals they treat and in some of the toughest moments I have had to endure, they were there for me....even going the extra mile to come in on a Sunday to help one of our friends pass over without having to suffer another day....did I mention they are closed on Sundays? This was of the highest of honors in my book and what makes a vet truly awesome.

Southland Veterinary Hospital provides outstanding care and I highly recommend this clinic/hospital. Their doctors are extremely knowledgeable and their equipment is cutting edge. They do a great job whether it is for annual health maintenance, or for an injury or other health issue. They keep up with the latest research and treatment options and have an excellent network of specialists for consultation or referral, if needed. The doctors and staff are so compassionate, both towards the pets and owners. I really appreciate that they open early (7:30 AM) and stay late (7:00 PM); and are open on Saturday s. It is so convenient and I never have to take off work for appointments or to pick up prescriptions. Every time I go there they make me and my Yorkie feel like family!

as one who considers pets to be members of the family and celebrates their birthdays, talks to them all the time because they're such good listeners, and can't resist those big pleading eyes when i'm on the couch and they're not, i have had peace of mind knowing that i could depend on the staff at southland to take care of my pets as if they were there very own. in the 20+ years i have known them, i have never been told they couldn't see my pet on the day i called with a concern. i have had prescriptions, special food, and messages ready to go and left for me at the office when i said i would be there to pick them up. they have set up referrals and/or consultations with specialists when necessary and have been able to assist with getting quick appointments with them. i have been the recipient of their kindness, empathy, and support when tough decisions had to be made. i trust and respect their experience and judgement when it isn't always clear to me what is the best thing to do for my pet. they have a well-run, well equipped office with a client oriented staff. of utmost importance, though, they are excellent clinicians and technicians, and their love for animals (and their owners) is evident with every encounter i have ever had with them.

I have been going to southland vet for the past 10 years. The veterinarians and staff are the kindest most dedicated people you could imagine! Even opening the clinic early and helping me transfer my large son from the AA clinic after he was hit by a car. He was in shock from massive blood loss, but they auto transfused him with the blood in this abdomen and cow cells, got him stabilized, and with their intensive care and prayers he is now as good as new. He was revived by Dr.Williams and Hardigree again a few years later when he had hemorrhagic enteritis. My other cats and dogs have also been treated with extreme kindness and the most thorough care. Their equipmment is more advanced than most MDs with digital x-rays as well as ultrasound. Their Saturday and evening hours, as well as drop off services make it possible to get care for your pet without missing work. I cannot imagine a kinder more dedicated veterinary clinic, from the veterinarians to the techs and receptionist. Susan Neil

I am in agony over the decision. The vet at Southland is a complete idiot and should not be trusted with your pet's life.

The practices at Southland Vet have gotten considerably worse through the COVID-19 pandemic. They seem overworked, underserved, and lackadaisical. They diagnosed my pet with an ear infection after 3 separate visits (and no noticeable infection in the ear) before needing to take the dog to a second vet who diagnosed him with a neurological condition.

Southland Veterinary Hospital could not have been more accommodating when our dog needed emergency care. They were very helpful and welcoming despite the fact that we had no appointment and were first time visitors to the hospital. Southland Veterinary Hospital provides outstanding care and I highly recommend this clinic/hospital. Their doctors are extremely knowledgeable and their equipment is cutting edge. as one who considers pets to be members of the family and celebrates their birthdays, talks to them all the time because they're such good listeners, and can't resist those big pleading eyes when i'm on the couch and they're not, i have had peace of mind knowing that i could depend on the staff at southland to take care of my pets as if they were there very own. in the 20+ years i have known them, i have never been told they couldn't see my pet on the day i called with a concern. i have had prescriptions, special food, and messages ready to go and left for me at the office when i said i would be there to pick them up. they have set up referrals and/or consultations with specialists when necessary and have been able to assist with getting quick appointments with them. i have been the recipient of their kindness, empathy, and support when tough decisions had to be made. i trust and respect their experience and judgement when it isn't always clear to me what is the best thing to do for my pet. they have a well-run, well equipped office with a client oriented staff. of utmost importance, though, they are excellent clinicians and technicians, and their love for animals (and their owners) is evident with every encounter i have ever had with them.

I have been going to southland vet for the past 10 years. The veterinarians and staff are the kindest most dedicated people you could imagine! Even opening the clinic early and helping me transfer my large son from the AA clinic after he was hit by a car. He was in shock from massive blood loss, but they auto transfused him with the blood in this abdomen and cow cells, got him stabilized, and with their intensive care and prayers he is now as good as new. He was revived by Dr.Williams and Hardigree again a few years later when he had hemorrhagic enteritis. My other cats and dogs have also been treated with extreme kindness and the most thorough care. Their equipmment is more advanced than most MDs with digital x-rays as well as ultrasound. Their Saturday and evening hours, as well as drop off services make it possible to get care for your pet without missing work. I cannot imagine a kinder more dedicated veterinary clinic, from the veterinarians to the techs and receptionist. Susan Neil

Went in for teeth cleaning. Cat was very healthy, never been sick. Came out with chronic diarrhea that new vet says is due to failure of organs. I will have to have him put down soon. I am in agon...

I am in agony over the decision. The vet at Southland is a complete idiot and should not be trusted with your pet's life.
