One of my fur babies became ill and needed vet care. Was fortunate I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. The wait time was less than normal. I can't remember the vets name but he was friendly and professional. He also informed me of the types of bones or chewables dogs should not have even though pet stores and such sell these products claiming they are safe. Check out time was better this visit too. The only thing I wish I could change there are the fees. They are not as pricey as some places, but higher than another vet I've used in the past. But I am normally in a bit of a hurry so Dixie Animal is usually my first choice. I try to avoid 3 to 4 hour wait if possible. Read Less

I absolutely love this place! They are very attentive to your dog's needs. I have not had a single bad experience here. The groomers are great and take time to meet your dog's needs (even if he's a tad stubborn or cranky). I had my first very experience and the vet was friendly and explained the issues without all the medical terminology. I recommend Dixie Animal hospital for all your pet needs. Read Less

I've been to a lot of vets over the years. Shively, cornerstone, stonefield, all pets vet. Most are just about the money. I found out about this vet from my husband and mother-in-law. We took my husband's dog December 2017 and had Dr. McIntyre. He's amazing. Just the best. He cares more about the pet than the money. My husband's dog looks like a totally different dog. We did everything he said to do and he didn't even recognize her. Be works on Wednesdays. I've made an appointment for my 6 year old husky and my 13 year old cat to see him. Dixie Animal Hospital is incredible. They listen to their patients and help the animals. They used to be walk-in only but now they take appointments, which only makes them better. We started with Dixie the year we moved to Louisville (2015) and have done all our medical care (annuals, dental, and emergencies) here since. I love that the Vets and Techs are so good with the fur babies. I also love that the Vets take the time to talk to the pet parents to better assess and diagnose then treat while educating the parents and helping ease their anxiety. I don't like that it's first come first serve as far as getting annuals goes (emergencies are assessed asap though). Their prices are a bit steep but you do get what you pay for. I have not had any personal experience with the grooming service however, I overheard customers and groomers talking while waiting at the vet (waiting area looks into store and grooming shop) and the dogs are there for long periods of time (even overnight) which is not acceptable for my babies (I want them in and out). I think (not certain) they also use the dryers that attach to the cages; huge no no for my boys (scary for them and can get too hot). Read Less

They're quicker than Shively Animal Clinic but not as "one on one" or personal. Also more expensive. I'll probably stick with Dixie for my vaccinations but the other for long term medical history etc. They're both good places.Read Less

You know, I don't enjoy making the drive out but my dog insists. I took her to another place once that was closer and she freaked out the whole time. At Dixie, she's happy, she trusts the staff, and she doesn't even realize why we're there. Great place. I highly recommend it! Read Less

Amazing people, amazing staff, amazing veterinarians.  I've been taking my dog here for the past year and he loves it and they love him.  Sometimes the wait can be long if you come at the wrong time.  Weekdays are usually best, but Tues through Thursday have been the least busiest in my experience.It was hard to find someone to clip my dog's nails as he freaks out, but they were able to do it somehow.  Good prices with friendly customer service. I have traveled allover the country with my pit mix, as my husband is in the military. We are originally from Louisville, and this was where our dog was taken while we were living at home. (I actually used to work for this vet, and know first hand how incredible they are with their patients) My dog was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and has been to veterinarians from Connecticut to California- Dixie is BY FAR the best! I am amazed when I take my girl (and now my boy, as we just adopted a second pit rescue) and I find out some of the services other places lack that Dixie can do right off the bat. Dixie Animal Hospital does so much at such a fair price; from major surgeries to simple routine tests and vaccinations. Dr. Smith is actually the reason why I have my female pit mix, as she took her in with two broken legs to rehabilitate her. She has been such an important part of my life, and I am forever grateful. All of the doctors are very knowledgable and compassionate. Kathy in the grooming department is remarkable, and all of the receptionists and technicians are kind and helpful. We make it an effort to keep vet trips to the minimum once a year (if possible) so that we can take our babies to Dixie when we are home for Christmas. Our male had to have an entropion surgery, which was performed at Dixie over this past Christmas while we were home. As always, they did fantastic, and his eye (his only eye) was noticeably better almost immediately. Please take your babies here if you want them to be cared for properly. I've taken four dogs here over the last 15 to 20 years and myself, and more importantly my pets always received wonderful treatment.  They are very knowledgeable and take the time to explain all of the details and pertinent information with my husband and I. My oldest is a male 12 year old Jack Russell with terrible allergies so we're at the vet regularly.  Fortunately they are very reasonably priced as well. We also have a 14 week old female boxer pup who gets seen every 2 weeks for shots and everything else she needs that visit. Their prices are much more reasonable than others we've used. We lived in the highlands for a few years and found a fabulous vet out there also, but it was much more expensive.  When we moved back out here we came back to Dixie and I much prefer their prices. DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!I wish I could give this place a score lower than 1 star but unfortunately you cannot. I never used this vet personally but I re-homed a pet that it's previous owner used this vet. Why? I have no idea because they are the most rude and unprofessional establishment I have worked with in years.All I wanted was to have my new pet's records faxed to the vet we use in our home state which is not in Kentucky and after not only 2 phone calls from the cat's previous owner, but also 2 phone calls from me, and another 2 from my vet I still do not have my pet's records! When our vet called them the first time they told them that they had absolutely no record of the animal...of the animal that has been going there for over 3 years...okay. When I called, Jenna, said they have the records and that she would fax them to my vet right away...she didn't. When our vet called them again the lady who they think was named Jessica was completely rude and told them they didn't have the records, that they already released the records to the owner, that they were getting no information from them whatsoever about the animal. Which obviously I do not have the records nor does the previous owner or I wouldn't be writing this review right now.I don't understand what is so hard about faxing a patients records to a new vet when I called them the first time and they reassured me that the new vet could request the records and it would be no problem. All I want is for my new pet to get the proper care it needs at it's new vet and Dixie Animal Hospital is making that impossible. Read Less
